He became a 'mascot' for the Mercury astronauts, wrote jokes for Steve Allen and Don Adams and penned one of the funniest 'All in the Family' episodes. Bill Dana, who created and starred as the earnest character at the center of the "My Name … Jose Jimenez" routine that made him one of America's most beloved comic performers of the 1960s, has died. He was 92. Dana, who first appeared as Jimenez on The Steve Allen Plymouth Show, where he also worked as an Emmy-nominated head writer, died Thursday at his home in Nashville, Emerson College announced. He and a fellow alumnus founded the American Comedy Archives at the Boston school, fulfilling a lifelong goal to honor the study and appreciation of the comedic arts. Dana contrived the trademark "Would You Believe?" line of jokes that Don Adams employed as a standup and on the TV series Get Smart and penned one of the funniest episodes in All in the Family history — the one from 1972 in which Sammy Davis Jr. plants a kiss on Archie Bunker (Carroll O'Connor). The nation was introduced to Jimenez in a comedy sketch on Allen's variety show in November 1959. Struggling to speak English, Jimenez appeared in a Santa Claus outfit as an instructor at a school for wannabe Kris Kringles and interviewed by "Man on the Street" Pat Harrington Jr

Children's presenter Brian Cant has died at the age of 83. He was best known for presenting BBC's Play School for 21 years from 1964, and Play Away from 1971 to 1984. His agent said he had been living with Parkinson's disease and died at Denville Hall, a retirement home often used by those in the entertainment industry. A statement from the family said: "He lived courageously with Parkinson's disease for a long time." Cant was also a guest presenter on Jackanory and appeared on ITV's Dappledown Farm, which ran from 1990 to 2003. He got his big break when he auditioned for Play School, when part of the audition required him to climb into a cardboard box. 'Comedy genius' His voice was known to millions in shows such as Trumpton, his most famous line being the fire brigade call-out: "Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble, Grub." Floella Benjamin, who also performed in Play School, said Cant was "comedy genius". She told BBC News: "He was totally devoted to making children happy - he introduced children to comedy with zany jokes and his funny sketches." Baroness Benjamin, who joined Play School in 1976, said she loved working with Cant. "We bounced off one another, we thought of new ideas of things to do," she said.

Henry ‘Hank’ Deutschendorf has died aged just 29. Henry, who played the role of baby Oscar alongside his twin brother William in Ghostbusters II, passed away from a suspected suicide it is thought. Ghostbusters II was Henry’s only ever acting credit but the brothers continued working together as Martial Arts instructors in California. Together the Deutschendorf brothers owned the West Coast Martial Arts Academy. In an interview in 2014, the brothers claimed they wanted to return to acting if the opportunity ever arose but in between studying and running a business, they couldn’t find the time.
