F4Wonline is reporting that Kenny Omega injured his knee and will miss most of NJPW's Destruction Tour this month. It's being reported as a "left meniscus injury". Currently they're saying he'll make the US Title match against Juice Robinson on 9/24, but in the meantime, will be replaced by Leo Tanga, Tama Tanga & Tonga Roa's brother, Haku's son, who, at 6'8", would be the tallest man on New Japan's roster. He's been training at the Dojo since the beginning of the year and before that was trained by the Dudleys and Team 3D Academy.
Really hoping he doesn't have to miss much more, if anything, after that. Especially with the huge ROH Chicago show on 10/15. With is being reported as an "injury" and not a tear, maybe that's promising for his recovery time. At the end of the day, I'd rather him miss dates and heal, though, even if it puts him on the shelf as far out as the 10/15 show.

It's incredible that he hasn't been badly injured before, with how hard hitting he fights. Okada, too. Some of the most brutal wrestling injuries occur in NJPW (Shibata).

Tournament Master That's what I was thinking, but it wasn't mentioned in the article. Still, makes the most sense. Especially with the ring breaking during his match and modifying the planned spots and moves. Swarm The fascinating thing about that is, on the whole, there are fewer injuries when compared to the WWE. Shibata's injury is also a little different in that he did the shoot headbutt as opposed to a worked spot, but no less brutal, saddening, and maddening. He was/is legit one of my favorite workers ever and I believe it was only a matter of time before he snagged the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. That said, they work their asses off and most of the roster is wrestling injured, but they also get those stretches of time between tours to heal up. I've also read and heard that painkillers are, unfortunately, still an issue over there. Okada is a genetic anomaly. Much like Flair. He probably has some nagging issues here and there (I read his neck was messed up during G1), but for the most part he stays healthy in spite of the style. Crazy.

TTX Yeah, man. It sounds like it won't be too bad, and in a completely selfish manner I really hope not. He's the reason I bought my ROH ticket for 10/15. I'm sure it will be a great show even if he can't make it, but they sold that place out on his name alone and the crowd will be bummed if he's unable to work. That said, I'd much rather he take care of himself and heal up properly than take any unnecessary risks just to have a match at the show.

I've also read and heard that painkillers are, unfortunately, still an issue over there. Japan also has much stricter marijuana laws than the US, so prescription painkillers are unfortunately a more attractive alternative. I think that using more natural pain relief in the US in recent years has helped cut down on prescription painkillers among a certain portion of the population, which I think is a positive step. I'm sure there are plenty that would argue, but that's my feeling on the situation. I've seen too much evidence to feel otherwise.

Apparently it had been nagging him for a while and he was rehabbing it recently in Canada. Tokyo Sports reported the knee finally gave while he was brawling with Juice Robinson the other day (can't find any mention of the show this actually happened on, though, so it could be they're working the bit to add fuel to the fire of the US Title match). Some places are indeed reporting it as a tear, but Kenny himself tweeted that he just needs a little time off and will be back by the end of the month.

Tournament Master I couldn't agree more. I've seen the same evidence and I can only hope that the NFL, UFC, and WWE will all understand that "more natural pain relief" is so much better in the long term than doping somebody up with prescription painkillers and act accordingly.

I think WWE is already a good way there. According to my knowledge pot is not a Wellness violation that can get you a suspension. It is possible its a fine, but not treated the same way as other substances. It will take much longer for NFL and UFC to get there, as well as the federal government of course.
