my recap after attending my 4th straight Galacticon:
Friday
- Although I have previously seen a Pirates game at PNC Park (back in 2014,) I was bummed out I was unable to attend the game with everybody else that night. We were unfortunately closing out the term for Summer school that day and the last day of the term is one of the few days we are not allowed to take off (but on the plus side I was told on Friday while signing out that I probably have a Summer position next year and that is really easy extra money which helps me pay off my new truck and travel.)
- I took the non-stop red eye from Las Vegas and landed in Pittsburgh at about 6:00 AM Saturday morning
Saturday
- I got to the hotel I think shortly after 7:00 AM and saw Swarm eating breakfast and so I joined him. Swarm asked me if I remembered 2115 and I immediately said "Godsend" and he told me that was a good guess and he then showed me pictures of all the new COTG cards on his IPAD while explaining what was going on in the new COTG set since I had not gotten a chance to read the book yet. I remember Swarm had said something about not being certain if he would make it this year, so I was glad to see he was indeed there.
- After Swarm left, TTX came downstairs and I talked to him for awhile and then also got a chance to once again talk to Tournament Master, jimsteel, Mike M, jmello, mikefortune, whlineup, and others before leaving with Todd, Troy, and Jim to help set up for the convention.
- As usual at Galacticon, despite winning some matches and going on a couple of runs, overall I had bad luck in the tournaments. Things like RVD getting DQd while going for VAN TERMINATOR, rolling a 3 on an early PIN attempt, Aethran Overmaster getting counted out in a match he was winning. But I still had fun so it was cool.
- I was running on fumes all day Saturday after only being able to sleep for an hour on that red eye flight, but again I still had fun even if I seemed out of it at times
- I think Mr. Jimmyface did a great job with the trivia contest, hopefully he will be doing it again for many future Galacticons.
- During the Q and A, I was glad to hear there might be a chance to get LOW color cards for guys like Andre the Giant and Rowdy Roddy Piper- even if it indeed is the same cards but just colored I would gladly take them.
- at the IWF Indy show that night, I was able to make 3 signings to the game and generally had a good time watching wrestling with most of the Galacticon attendees.
- after the IWF show, me, Todd, Jim, and Troy went to eat at Primanti Brothers and we were joined at the next table by TOM , Alex, Jeff, Mike, and Will. Just as I remembered from my last trip to Pittsburgh, the food was awesome. I had a cajun chicken sandwich with fries and coleslaw inside the sandwich which is the Primanti Brothers style.
- afterwards we went back to the hotel and me and Todd went to Jeff and Mike's room where along with Tom, Alex, and Will we drank beer and watched old episodes of Lucha Underground on Netflix.
Sunday
- I was roommates with Todd this year and after getting cleaned up I walked out of the bathroom to find out that we were both wearing the same shirt (purple Macho Man shirt- I always wear that shirt when I attend a WWE show- as I was going to do later that night- since Randy Savage is in LOW) lol.
- At the convention, we played out the last few tournaments and then Tournament Master won the cup (congrats to Todd!)
- in addition to the names I mentioned and tagged above, it was also great once again to see Matt, EpicDave, Brocster and his wife Diana (congrats to both of them on their upcoming child being born soon!,) Sam, Hardcore (I am having trouble tagging you for some reason,) Blehschmidt, rudmaniac, Pete, DK II, smoke and his sons, reno (in addition to both having Nevada names we both also wore Boba Fett shirts as on Saturday I wore my VGK logo shirt that is altered to have Boba Fett's mask in place of the knight's visor,) speedracer42, and anyone else I might be forgetting.
- before leaving there were some free DVDs offered on the table next to the game merchandise table and I picked one up (I will be mentioning that DVD in the future;))
- after Galacticon ended I rode with Todd and Will into downtown Pittsburgh where me and Todd went to Bruce Pritchards's podcast with Vince's lawyer Jerry McDevitt as the guest. From what I understand, some of that podcast is either on or will be on the WWE Network. I previously attended Pritchard's podcast back in February at Mandalay Bay here in Las Vegas the night before Elimination Chamber when Booker T was the guest and Pritchard used alot of the same material in Pittsburgh such as his stories about Vince's manicure and bankruptcy and Vince trying to dance to the song Ring of Fire.
- after the podcast, I went with Todd and Will to see Extreme Rules which was at the arena where the Pittsburgh Penguins play and which was located right across the street from our hotel Sunday night. My favorite matches from Extreme Rules were the steel cage match between Braun Strowman and Kevin Owens (with my favorite moment being Strowman throwing Owens off the top of the cage and through a table) and the match between AJ Styles and Rusev. I did not really care for the fans chanting down with the clock at the end of every minute for the iron man match as if it was the Royal Rumble.
Monday
- I was originally planning on going to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Ohio but that plan got shot down as I was unable to rent a car. So instead I hung around downtown Pittsburgh and toured Heinz Field of the Pittsburgh Steelers and had an incredible burger for lunch at Burgatory which was recommended to me by Mark Ashby. Later though when I went to the airport to fly home, I ate dinner for the first time at Quaker Steak and Lube but was disappointed as I had heard alot about them but did not care for the wings I ordered.
- I boarded my non-stop flight home and arrived exhausted after another long day (which was extended by another 3 hours due to flying in from EST to PST) and I got home and turned on some wrestling but quickly fell asleep on the couch even with the lights on as I was exhausted from an extremely fun weekend.
- looking forward to hopefully returning next year to Galacticon for my 5th straight year and am getting ready to leave this weekend to join 3/4 of the LOW team (Chad Olson, Tim Dalton, and stu,) Avarice, and some friends in Iowa I know from the CAC here in Las Vegas for the annual Hall of Fame inductions at the Tragos/Thesz professional wrestling hall of fame in Waterloo, Iowa!
