SINGLES MATCH: "MACHO MAN" RANDY SAVAGE (with valet PENELOPE FORD) vs. HARLEY RACE (with manager BOBBY "THE BRAIN" HEENAN)
As the bell rings, these two very proud men stand face to face, eye to eye, and start to argue. Race says something that the ring mics don't pick up, but it gets Savage's ire as he smacks Race right across the face! Or tries to, anyway, as Race was looking to make Savage lose his temper. Race blocks the shot, hits a swinging neckbreaker, and takes Savage down with a back suplex. Race maintains control, sending Savage out of the ring, and the Macho Man fumes for a moment before Penelope whispers some advice to him and he returns to the ring. Race lands a couple more shots and throws Savage to the turnbuckle, but the Macho Man explodes out of it with a tackle!
Randy Savage begins laying on clothesline variations and knee strikes, but Race is just too fresh to be down for terribly long. An elbow to the head is dodged, and again Savage is caught by Race's swinging neckbreaker. A couple more strikes brings the Macho Man to the mat, but he rolls out of the way of Harley's attempt at a knee drop. Savage and Racer trade blows until a headbutt from Race puts Savage on the mat, and Race applies and Indian Deathlock, but Savage reaches the ropes. (P1/R6) Harley Race climbs up, as Heenan calls for the diving headbutt, but Savage springs to his feet and slams Race to the canvas! Savage climbs to the second turnbuckle and hits Race with an axe handle, then a pair of vaulting neck snaps into a pin for a 2 count. (P2.R6) A few more big moves, and again Savage tries for the pin, and again gets a 2. (P3/R6)
Savage blasts Harley Race over the ropes, and Bobby Heenan goes to check on his charge, not noticing that Savage is climbing up to deliver a double axe handle from the top to the outside! Heenan barely gets out of the way, and Race is reeling! Rolling his foe back into the ring, Savage then Irish whip's him to the ropes, but Race just has enough energy to flip Savage over into a sneaky pin attempt! No such luck, though. (P2/R6) Keeping up the pressure, Race slams his knee into Savage's back for an expertly done backbreaker, then picks Savage up to work on him some more, but Savage blocks a forearm and elbows Race out of the way! Savage throws Race to the ropes, and catches him with a back elbow on the return trip! The Macho Man pauses to nurse his back before resuming the assault, eventually sending Race out of the ring, and Heenan has seen enough for his tastes. He produces a set of brass knuckles for Race, but Savage overpowers the Brain and puts them on himself! He decks Heenan with the brass implement... right in front of the referee, who calls for a disqualification on the spot. WINNER BY DQ: HARLEY RACE!
MH: The veins in Savage's forehead look like they're going to burst, he's so furious right now! Heenan weasels a win for his protégé even as it backfires on him personally!
LK: Now keep in mind this is not a full 5 points in our ranking system for Harley Race, he just gets 2 points. Still, he's not out of the woods yet, because Savage and Ford are both taking up pursuit! We'll be right back with our main event, next!
MAIN EVENT NON-TITLE MATCH: NEWA WORLD CHAMPION "EXOTIC" ADRIAN STREET (with manager JAMES E. CORNETTE and valet MISS LINDA) vs. NICK BOCKWINKEL (appearing courtesy of Finger Lakes Wrestling Federation)
Nobody wants to cede the advantage early on, as the Exoti One reverses a snapmare attempt from Bockwinkel, only for the visiting main eventer to escape a fireman's carry, push Street into the ropes and hit him hard with a drop kick! Nick looks to end it early with the Bockwinkel Sleeper, but Street elbows his way out of the hold (P5/R10). Adrian Street still has his back turned to Bockwinkel, tough, and he takes advantage with a back suplex. The champ scurries out of the ring to regroup, and Bockwinkel follows only to be blocked by Cornette, giving Street enough time to grab the steel steps! He waylays Bockwinkel with the steps while Miss Linda has head referee John Parungao distracted (DQ5/R8), then Street rolls his foe back into the ring.
Street keeps up the punishment with a European Uppercut followed by a neckbreaker, sending Bockwinkel to the mat. A London Bridge Leglock and a second neckbreaker leads to a pin attempt by Adrian, but Bockwinkel waits until the last second to kick out, attempting to preserve his energy and still favoring his back after that shot with the steps (P2/R3). Bockwinkel just can't catch a break amidst corner splashes, elbow drops and more, and to the surprise of many, it's enough. Adrian Street's second pin attempt finds the three count, with Bockwinkel not kicking out until it's too late (P3/R3). WINNER: "EXOTIC" ADRIAN STREET!
LK: Adrian Street just got a massive win over one of the most decorated men in the business today!
MH: But the MVP of the match could well be an inanimate object, Linwood. Bockwinkel is going to be fuming as he returns to FLWF, and you can bet he's thinking of a rematch if he ever decides to pursue a contract here at NEWA.
LK: We may see that someday, but for now, we're coming up to the end of our broadcast time allotment, so for The Mauler, this is Linwood Knight wishing you all a good night!
