This was from the AWA on their Championship Wrestling show on ESPN. Greg was an adequate worker who lacked the physical presence or charisma to be a star outside of his father's promotion...but he was passable with the right booking. GG never did get a run with the World Title but for years he was a staple in a second tier position and to his credit he was accepted by the audience in that role. Watch as Curt sells for him like a stone cold trooper!

This was from Verne Gagne's AWA at a house show in Minnesota. The AWA was known for long tag title reigns (especially by today's standards) and these were two Championship legacy teams. Together AWA World Tag Team Champions Adonis & Ventura comprised The East West Connection. JV had a certain charisma and presence. While he was never a standout in ring performer...here he does show that he could work a tag role and sell effectively. AA was critically praised at the time for his technical proficiency, work ethic and great bump taking skills. Had he taken better care of himself outside the ring he could have been a major player throughout the decade...but it wasn't meant to be. Former Champions Greg Gagne and Jim Brunzell were The High Flyers. JB was the more athletic of the two but Greg was adequate in his role. Note the Adonis high spot at the finish.

This was from the WWF at a house show at Madison Square Garden. WWF World Champion Bob Backlund is seen on 'a quest for vengeance' after having suffered the humiliation of a TV Taping whipping from Slaughter and his riding crop! SS was one of the best working big man of the early 80's. A strong mic worker with stellar bump taking and selling skills, solid ring psychology and an impressive offensive arsenal. Most importantly he knew how to effectively project his persona (face or heel) to the crowd and generate emotion. This is a good example of The Sarge at his peak.
