I'm really hoping that the crowd loudly chanting "Tommy, Tommy" puts an end to the terrible Malachi Black name before it becomes a thing. I don't hate the name Malakai Black. I'm guessing the crowd had no clue he was even supposed to be called Malakai. How would they? They can't hear Excalibur on commentary, I don't think. They probably thought they were all being smart by calling him Tommy rather than Aleister.

Personally I don't really think "Tommy End" is a particularly great name, either. Not for the gimmick or persona, at least.

Then I see comments on Twitter that he had posted a video to Instagram explaining this new persona. The video was decently well made. Would have made for a much better intro for this new character for him than what we got. I understand that AEW has a ton of guys and only 2 hours of TV time but the fact that Twitter and Instagram and other forms of social media are required to understand what’s going on is in my opinion a big weakness for any fed. WWE too. I think a lot of fans treat what’s on TV and only what’s on TV as official and or important.

Been telling a friend of mine that since the pandemic and Cornette has been saying that too. Look at MJF hes had two singles matches in 2021. WHY???
Pinnacle vs Inner Circle could have been huge, slow build it have a lot of member vs member matches and then war games to end it six months down the line. They are doing things with the feud still but I'm not emotionally behind it.
Too big of a roster (you almost HAVE to do lots of factions to get people exposure) and not enough time for everyone. It feels like Tony Khan is playing Champions of the Galaxy. Playing out cards and match ups but not building them up or making them have an impact. I was telling a buddy the other day on how you have to have sections of talent (low, mid and upper card AND jobbers) or else no one is gonna get over.
I know Jim Cornette isnt someone everyone philosophically might not agree with but hes got some great points about AEW (appealing to the base group and not expanding the audience). They have pieces but too many and using them wrong I think.

Personally I don't really think "Tommy End" is a particularly great name, either. Not for the gimmick or persona, at least. Definitely agree with this. There are so many bad names in wrestling. Big Swole and the 1 Called Manders are others that immediately come to mind. And this goes back to a post I made in another thread about how indy promotions aren't doing indy wrestlers any favors by not telling them, "Hey, your chosen name is dumb. Let's do better."

If you are going to have social media and YouTube play into what is happening on TV, it should really only be bonus material, not vital information we need to understand what is going on. I know Jim Cornette isnt someone everyone philosophically might not agree with but hes got some great points about AEW (appealing to the base group and not expanding the audience). They have pieces but too many and using them wrong I think. I have really wanted to get into AEW since the beginning because, in some ways, it is similar to WCW. BUT everything feels hot-shotted, as you said. Every feud is sped to a finish with some sort of gimmick match. Arcade matches, casket matches, exploding barbed wire deathmatches, war games, etc. If you have so many specialty matches, are they really special? You're also 100% spot on about there being not enough variety in the standings of their wrestlers. Everyone essentially falls in a mid-upper midcard status. There is no one who is truly a main eventer, except Kenny Omega right now. Very few wrestlers have a losing record on their website. That is partially due to their Dark shows, where the wrestlers on their roster usually win against non-signed wrestlers. BUT it's also due to their booking of everyone being essentially equal. There's also WAY too many factions. The Dark Order needs to go. It started as something potentially interesting. Kinda creepy with the weird "join us" vignettes. Then Brodie Lee comes and the group finally has a main event leader but we start getting these goofy segments on social media where this supposed evil group leader is throwing papers at guys and everyone is holding back laughter... Then he passes away. Truly sad but the group has had zero direction since. They need to break them up and trim the fat.

Did a fan attempt to attack Chris Jericho? Did I see that right?

Did a fan attempt to attack Chris Jericho? Did I see that right? Last week during a segment between Jericho and MJF, some fat dipshit got on the ramp and was heading toward the ring. Security grabbed him, but he got away and then Jericho punched him in the head. Then ring announcer Justin Roberts grabbed his ankles from the floor and pulled his legs out from under him, and security pounced on him. The guy later made a Twitter post to Jim Cornette saying something along the lines of "Did you see my AEW Debut? These fake, flippy guys thought they could pretend forever, but shit just got real!!" and pretty much threatened to do it again. Cornette told the guy "While I may not like AEW, you don't jump the guard rail EVER, and if you'd done that to me, I'd have shoved a tennis racket up your ass!"
