Tiger Conway Jr- Career Mode
Height: 6' 0" Weight: 238lbs Houston, TX I thought I’d try something different and instead of running a fed, I’d run a ‘Career Mode’ for an individual wrestler. My hopes are that by picking someone and charting their story through the role of the dice, it’ll be an interesting alternative. So why Tiger Conway Jr? Firstly, Tiger Conway Jr’s card has just been released so he hasn’t had much play time. Secondly, he’s a wrestler I’ve really enjoyed watching and someone who had some pretty high profile matches in the late 70s and very early 80s. Also, his card stats suggest that although he's capable of pulling off victories here and there, he’s likely to struggle against bigger and more powerful opponents. Conway Jr also seems to be adept as part of a tag team so I think it will be interesting to see how his story develops and if this is where his real success lies (if he has any success at all.) Like most wrestlers, he’s going to start at the bottom and (hopefully) work his way up. I’ll be utilising some specialist charts along the way and will be sure to role on the feud table when appropriate; this will hopefully create some rivalries and alliances. Conway Jr’s progress will not be determined on wins and losses alone. I am going to take into consideration the quality of his performance and the quality of his opponent(s) along the way, so a strong showing in defeat against a top calibre star such as Nick Bockwinkel is going to be more important than an easy victory over George South for example. Matches will be played and reviewed and story lines will develop from here. Story lines may develop outside of Conway’s central story too, depending on who else gets involved. I hope you enjoy following, Joe B

Chapter 1- Learning The Ropes Tiger Conway Jr is going to start where most up and coming wrestlers start- at the very bottom, and is there any opponent lower than the legendary Mister X? Let's see how Conway gets on in his debut and in in the matches following it: MATCH 1:
Tiger Conway Jr vs Mister X
As expected, it's all one way traffic on for Conway's debut as the second- generation wrestler makes very short work of the masked scrub. Three moves is all it takes and the Flying Head Butt scores the victory. Winner: Tiger Conway Jr
Verdict: You knew it, right? The hapless masked man is no match for the athletic Conway. Nothing more than a tune up here and things aren't going to get much tougher in the next match.... MATCH 2
Tiger Conway Jr vs George South
Conway Jr faces the experienced South in a curtain- jerking bout. Despite South jumping Conway at the bell, the Charlotte native cannot maintain his onslaught and Conway's athleticism wins the day. Another Flying Head Butt and another easy victory. Winner: Tiger Conway Jr
Verdict: It's still very hard to judge Tiger Conway Jr's true potential as once more he outclasses a very limited opponent. As South automatically loses once his opponent hits their finisher, and the fact he has no finisher of his own leaves his chances of springing an upset being mighty slim. It's time Conway faced a little stiffer competition....
MATCH 3
Tiger Conway Jr vs Johnny Mantell
This is Conway's first real test against a durable opponent and things really don't go his way at all. Mantell starts strong and doesn't let up at all. A pair of Russian Leg Sweeps and the Texas Tumbleweed sends Conway to his first defeat, collecting three pin tokens on the way. Winner: Johnny Mantell
Verdict: It's Conway's first real test and it couldn't have gone any worse. Mantell totally dominated his opponent from start to finish. I've enjoyed using Johnny Mantell- another low ranking card but with some dangerous offense. Conway will be looking to bounce back quickly and will be seeking revenge against Mantell down the line for sure. However, he's going to have to wait. Due to his poor showing, he's been booked in a tag match against dangerous opponents and with a 'legendary' enhancement talent as his partner. He really needs a good showing in his next match.
MATCH 4
Tiger Conway Jr & 'Sodbuster' Kenny Jay vs 'Luscious' Johnny Valiant & 'Handsome Jimmy Valiant (w/Captain Lou Albano)
Conway Jr finds himself in tag action for the first time and couldn't be up against stiffer competition. If he is looking to pick up a victory, he's going to have to take it to the Valiants and hope his hapless partner doesn't wish to get too involved. It's all in vain however as the Valiants control from the off, using quick tags to work over Conway before 'Handsome' hits the Super Elbow for the victory. Kenny Jay messes up whilst trying to make the save and Conway is left staring at the lights. Albano doesn't even break a sweat at ringside. Winners: The Valiant Brothers
Verdict: With the odds stacked against him, I was really hoping that Conway could put up a brave showing here, but alas it was total domination from the excellent Valiant Brothers. Johnny & Jimmy are statted (quite rightly) to be tag specialists and must rank as one of the top teams in Legends right now. Conway was deliberately saddled with a dud partner as I've always been a fan of those enhancement tag matches where one guy on the losing team seems capable whilst the other you just know is gonna eat the pin. Even that didn't go to plan as Conway started and ended the match without getting the opportunity to tag Jay in. Perhaps Conway needs to find himself a partner withe more pedigree, but his bargaining power is rock-bottom at the moment and it's unlikely to change as his next outing is against the formidable Blackjack Mulligan!
MATCH 5:
Tiger Conway Jr vs Blackjack Mulligan
Conway is already in the ring, receiving the true 'jobber introduction' when Mulligan storms the ring to a chorus of jeers. The big man from Sweetwater, TX bullies his much smaller opponent and applies the Blackjack Claw early on, but Conway makes it to the ropes. Mulligan attempts a belly to belly suplex but counters into a head scissors. Mulligan whiffs on a lariat and Conway hits a hurracarrana for a near fall. The fans are sensing an upset! Conway stays on top and takes things outside the ring where the pair brawl. Surprisingly, it's Conway who gets the better of things and after rolling Mulligan back inside, hits a Flying Headbutt for a near fall. The crowd are behind Conway now as he hits a second head butt, however Mulligan kicks out. Conway goes up top but Mulligan recovers and sends him tumbling to the Canvas. A huge lariat takes Conway off his feet and the Claw is applied twice more, eventually leading to Conway tapping out. Winner: Blackjack Mulligan
Verdict: A really strong showing from Conway here as he battled his fellow Texan from bell to bell. The action went outside where Conway showed some fire against his brawling opponent. Conway survived four pin attempts before he was eventually put away and even managed to get Mulligan's shoulders to the canvas twice on the way to a defeat. The fans got behind him and despite being bloodied during the encounter, he lives to fight another day. An impressive performance all-round against a double tough foe who is certainly in the top 25% of Legends cards.

Chapter 2- Jerkin' The Curtain
Okay, so things haven't started fantastically well for Tiger Conway Jr. After two relatively easy victories against sub-par opposition, he has since slipped to three straight defeats. However, his best performance to date was in his defeat to Blackjack Mulliigan, which should give Conway some belief that he has chosen the right career path after all. Next up, he has a rematch against a man who demolished him in Match 3, Johnny Mantell.
MATCH 6:
Tiger Conway Jr vs Johnny Mantell
Conway gets the opportunity to gain revenge on Johnny Mantell and he wastes no time in ambushing the rough, tough cowboy. Conway is just too quick and his high impact assault leaves Mantell chasing shadows. The crowd comes alive as Conway hits a huge belly to belly suplex followed by a sweet dropkick before a pair of Flying Head Butts leave Mantell seeing stars. Winner: Tiger Conway Jr
Verdict: Wow, what a way to avenge defeat! Conway Jr was all over Mantell, who barely got a move in. Everything went right for the young Tiger and his agility advantage paid off when he was calling the (ch) moves. It's always satisfying to see someone win with their finisher. although it took Conway two attempts to get the job done here. Next up, it's tag team action and a bit of a treat for fans of the enhancement talent, like me!
MATCH 7:
Tiger Conway Jr & SD 'Special Delivery' Jones vs George South & Mr X
Conway's last tag outing was a disaster, but this time the opposition couldn't be easier and his partner, SD Jones is a significant upgrade on Kenny Jay. South & X have probably teamed together before, but you wouldn't know it as Conway & Jones dominate them- targeting Mr X and cutting off the ring expertly. Jones hits the Philly Shuffle and Conway lands the Flying Head Butt for an impressive victory. Winners: Tiger Conway Jr & SD 'Special Delivery Jones
Verdict: A very one-sided victory, as to be expected against such weak opposition. I wanted to team Conway with somebody whom he might meet 'on his way up' the card. Jones is solid, dependable and a likable baby face who can pull off a few upsets but is most likely to be on the losing end of a match up. He is statted to be a decent tag wrestler, which is probably a fair reputation of his actual career. I'd be keen to see how Conway & Jones fair together in the future. This could be an exciting partnership, but I'll need to see them tested against stiffer opposition that South and X. Next up, Tiger Conway Jr returns to singles action.
MATCH 8:
Tiger Conway Jr vs Boris Zhukov
Two guys famed for their head butting ability face off in one on one action. Conway should be buoyed his previous victory, but he struggles against the burly Russian who clubbers him with overhand rights and a series of knee drops. Zhukov goes up top and belly flops to the canvas, giving Conway a chance to come back, but its all in vain. A diving head butt from Zhukov scores a relatively easy victory. after the match, Zhukov lays the Soviet flag over his beaten opponent and his tag partner Nikolai Volkoff enters the ring to lay the boots in. SD Jones races from the back to chase off the scary Russians and checks on his fallen 'comrade.' Winner: Boris Zhukov
Verdict: A very tough outing for Conway here, who never really gets going against the durable but unspectacular Zhukov. Zhukov has some decent offense but struggles on defence- luckily for him Conway is unable to seriously test him. This disastrous defeat and the humiliating aftermath sets up the inevitable tag team match, which will take place next.
MATCH 9:
Tiger Conway Jr & SD 'Special Delivery' Jones vs Nikolai Volkoff & Boris Zhukov
This match doesn't really get going as the Soviet team ambush Conway & Jones at the bell, tossing Conway to the outside and mercilessly working over Jones. The match is only a minute old when Volkoff hits a back breaker on Jones and makes the cover. An absolute squash!
Winners: The Bolsheviks
Verdict: Oh dear....Conway didn't even get a chance to step in the ring as Jones was tossed around like a rag doll by Volkoff and Zhukov. The Bolsheviks are a fun pairing, with Volkoff rightly being the stronger of the two, and certainly stronger as a singles competitor. I thought they might struggle with Conway's agility and his excellent turnbuckle rating, but he didn't get a chance to shine. A total dud. Where does Conway go from here? Well, it's only fair that he gets a crack at big Nikolai one-on one!
MATCH 10:
Tiger Conway Jr vs Nikoai Volkoff
Conway comes flying at his opponent straight form the bell and has the best of the early exchanges. Again, it's his agility that gives him the greatest advantage as Volkoff stumbles and fumbles, unable to get a foot-hold in the match. COnway goes up top and misses a cross body and Volkoff takes control, slamming his opponent hard and delivering a nasty looking back breaker. Volkoff misses a turnbuckle charge and Conway hits the Flying Head Butt out of nowhere for a near fall! Volkoff kicks out and a botched cross body lets Volkoff regain control, which he never rescinds. A wicked lariat ends up and Conway is defeated again. Winner: Nikolai Volkoff
Verdict: This was always going to be a tough ask and so it proved. Although Conway started well, he struggled against Nikolai's superior power and his decent finisher rating. Volkoff can mix it with the best of them and perhaps COnway shouldn't be too disheartened here, but it's back to the drawing board for the next chapter...

I say bring in Tiger's father to help against the Russians. Then add S.D. and Alexis Smirnoff for a six-man tag!
