LWF WORLD CLASS CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING BJCC, BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA MONDAY, JUNE 1, 2009
*****RESULTS*****
(Card source key: low=Filsinger’s Legends Of Wrestling; low-b=Legends Of Wrestling Bootlegs; low-m=Legends Of Wrestling Memphis Bootlegs)
DARK MATCH “The MORMON GIANT” DON LEO JONATHAN (low) beat “RAVISHING” RICK RUDE (low) with the Rude Awakening finisher (Referee: James Beard)
ABC & The LWF Present WORLD CLASS CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING on ABC-TV (9 p.m. Eastern/8 p.m. Central, two hours, hosted by Gordon Solie & Jim Ross, “Mean Gene” Okerlund & Gary Michael Cappetta)
LWF WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIP, 10-MINUTE TIME LIMIT Champion and National Tag Team Co-Champion “IRON” MIKE DIBIASE (low) beat The SHEIK (low) (w/ “Grand Wizard” Abdullah Farouk) (low) by disqualification when Sheik threw a Fireball; Dibiase retains the belt (Referee: Earl Hebner) --LWF General Manager Bill Watts came out and said he saw what The Sheik did, and Watts suspended the Syrian madman on the spot, adding, “And, that means there will be no Two-by-Four-on-a-Pole Match tonight! You are OUT OF HERE as of RIGHT NOW!” Farouk restrained Sheik from going after Watts, possibly saving his wrestling career.
The IRON SHEIK (low) beat GEORGE SOUTH (low) with a Piledriver (Referee: Ron West) --Once again, Sheik put the Camel Clutch on his beaten opponent after the match, and the referee had a hard time getting him to release the hold until Abdullah Farouk came out and spoke some words in Farsi to Sheik, who let go. The two then left the ring together.
“SUPERSTAR” BILL DUNDEE (low-b) & JERRY “The KING” LAWLER (low-b) beat The FABULOUS FREEBIRDS (Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy & Michael “P.S.” Hayes) (low-b) (w/ “Big Red” April Hunter) (low) when Lawle rbeat Hayes with a Series of Punches (Referee: Dave Hebner) --Hunter was still wearing a neck brace after being injured by Strangler Lewis weeks ago.
“LIVING LEGEND” LARRY ZBYSZKO (low) beat “CHIEF” JAY STRONGBOW (low-b) with a Larryland Sleeper (Referee: Johnny “Red Shoes“ Dugan)
At the interview podium, Gene Okerlund was with Jim Duggan, and they reviewed what happened earlier with The Sheik and his immediate suspension by Bill Watts. After the replay, Okerlund said that Farouk had asked that the Iron Sheik be allowed to replace Sheik in the Two-By-Four on a Pole Match later in the program. Duggan said, “Hey, ‘Mean Gene,’ the ol’ Hacksaw ain’t got no problem with that. Anybody who knows anything about this business knows that me ‘n’ the Iron Sheik have a history that goes way back. If he wants a piece of Hacksaw Jim Duggan, he’s welcome to give it a shot. I don’t care which Sheik I fight tonight, I’m gonna be fighting for the good ol’ U.S.A.!” This prompted “U.S.A.” chants from the fans, and Duggan closed with, “Beat THAT, Tough Guy! HOOOOO!”
NON-TITLE MATCH The EAST-WEST CONNECTION (Adrian Adonis & Jesse “The Body” Ventura) (low-b) (w/ Bobby “The Brain” Heenan) (low) beat National Tag Team Champions “IRON” MIKE DIBIASE (low) & PEDRO MORALES (low-b) when Ventura beat Morales with the Body Breaker finisher (Referee: David Manning) --The stipulation was, if E-W won, they would challenge Dibiase & Morales for the National Tag Team Championship, but, if E-W lost, they would split up. Now, Adonis & Ventura get a title shot next Monday night.
A video package aired to promote this Sunday night’s LWF World Championship Match between Champion Bruno Sammartino and Challenger Kerry Von Erich. After the package aired, both men, speaking via satellite from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Lake Dallas, Texas, respectively, gave each other respect and looked forward to their best-two-out-of-three-falls match.
TWO-BY-FOUR ON A POLE MATCH “HACKSAW” JIM DUGGAN (low) beat The IRON SHEIK (low) (w/ “Grand Wizard” Abdullah Farouk) (low) with the Flying Spear finisher (Referee: Nick Patrick) --Sheik laid out and opened up Duggan with repeated kicks with the boot he could be seen loading up, and this allowed Sheik to get the 2x4. A bloody Duggan, though, managed to get the board away from the Iranian and beat him bloody with it. Farouk climbed up onto the apron, but one swing of the lumber by Duggan sent Farouk scurrying to the back. Duggan then his his trademark spear and got the 1-2-3.
LWF WORLD CLASS CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING MAIN EVENT--NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH RIKIDOZAN (low) beat Champion LOU THESZ (low-b) with the Hiplock finisher to win the belt (Referee: Dick Woherle) --Rikidozan reopened Thesz’s bandaged wounds from last week’s match with thunderous chops and hit the Hiplock to score the win and the title.

At the interview podium, the Rock ‘N’ Roll Express, Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton, congratulated Rogers on winning the TV Title. Morton apologized for the Express not being in Colorado Springs last week, but he and Gibson had a match in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil that night. He then said he and Gibson had signed a match against the team that beat the Fantastics last week, Cousin Luke and S.D. Jones, and said that “we’re gonna show everybody how it’s done!”
“PLAYBOY” BUDDY ROSE (low) beat PAT HUTCHINSON (low-m) with the Bombs Away finisher (Referee: Dick Woherle)
The ROCK ’N’ ROLL EXPRESS (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) (low-b) beat COUSIN LUKE (low) & S.D. “SPECIAL DELIVERY” JONES (low) when Morton beat Luke with a Cross-Body Block (Referee: Johnny “Red Shoes“ Dugan) --As the victorious Express left the ring, Bobby Heenan and Big John Studd walked down the aisle. Gibson & Morton kept their distance and worked their way away from the ring as Studd stepped over the top rope and, like last week, annihilated Luke and Jones. Heenan once again threatened the entire LWF over Studd not having a match tonight. “This Sunday night, at Legends Gone Wild, you will all see the definition of wild, because Big John Studd is going to crush EVERYBODY and win the $100,000 grand prize!”
LWF NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP NUMBER ONE CONTENDER MATCH ED “STRANGLER” LEWIS (low) (w/ “Captain” Lou Albano) (low) beat “GOLDEN GREEK” JIM LONDOS (low) with a rollup after Albano distracted Londos; Lewis gets the title shot (Referee: Earl Hebner)
“SOULMAN” ROCKY JOHNSON (low-b) beat North American Tag Team Co-Champion “NATURE BOY” BUDDY ROGERS (low) (w/ LWF Women’s World Champion “Sensational” Sherri Martel) (low) with five straight Flying Dropkicks (Referee: Scrappy McGowan) --Johnson quickly left the ring before Rogers’ tag team partner, Frank Gotch, could get there and attack him.

“MR. U.S.A.” TONY ATLAS (low-b) beat North American Tag Team Co-Champion FRANK GOTCH (low) by disqualification (Referee: James Beard) --Gotch tried to attack Atlas with a chair before the bell, but Atlas fended him off. A brawl ensued outside the ring. When they entered the ring, the brawl continued, and Gotch tied Atlas up in the ropes and hit him with the chair, causing the DQ. Rocky Johnson ran out and saved his partner from further damage.
LWF PRIME TIME CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING MAIN EVENT--LWF NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH BOB BACKLUND (low-b) (w/ “Captain“ Lou Albano) (low) beat “SUPERFLY” JIMMY SNUKA (low) with the Rolling Backbridge finisher to win the belt (Referee: Jerry Calhoun) --Snuka calmly said, “Don’t worry, I’ll get a rematch,” and left the ring. Meanwhile, Strangler Lewis, Albano’s other protégé, who won the Number One Contender Match earlier in the night, came into the ring to congratulate Backlund. Albano told interviewer Bill Apter that “This is great! There’s gold in the Albano stable once again, and, now , Strangler, you don’t have to worry about challenging for the title, because Bobby here has already won it for me.” Lewis turned serious and said, “What do you mean, I don’t have to worry about the title shot? I earned it tonight, and I want my shot at the belt!” Backlund said, “Listen, Strangler, you heard what the ‘Captain’ said. I got the belt, so you can just go about your business of keeping the riff-raff away from me.” Lewis retorted, “Keeping the riff-raff away from you? Listen, college boy, when I came to the LWF, I didn’t sign up to be no policeman. I came here for titles, and I have a shot at one now. Are you gonna put that title up against me, or am I gonna have to force you to?” Albano stepped between his men, but, as TV time ran out, it looked like there was a deepening rift in the Albano stable.

*****RESULTS*****
(Card source key: low=Filsinger’s Legends Of Wrestling; low-b=Legends Of Wrestling Bootlegs; low-c=Legends Of Wrestling Creations; low-m=Legends Of Wrestling Memphis Bootlegs)
FREE PRE-PPV MATCH LWF North American Champion BOB BACKLUND (low-b) (w/ “Captain” Lou Albano) (low) & LWF North American Tag Team Champions FRANK GOTCH (low) & “NATURE BOY” BUDDY ROGERS (low) (w/ “Sensational” Sherri Martel) (low) beat LWF National Champion RIKIDOZAN (low) & LWF National Tag Team Champions “IRON” MIKE DIBIASE (low) & PEDRO MORALES (low-b) when Backlund beat Dibiase with a Piledriver (Referee: Earl Hebner)
LWF LEGENDS GONE WILD ’09 PPV with the broadcast team of Gordon Solie, Jim Ross & Mike Tenay, with backstage interviewer “Mean Gene” Okerlund and Ring Announcer Howard Finkel
At the outset of the program, Solie, Ross and Tenay announced that there was a serious disturbance in the New Orleans Arena parking lot, and there was a camera on the scene, so they hoped to have video of the incident shortly.
The first match was a 16-man over-the-top-rope Battle Royal, with the order of elimination determining the competitors in each of four stipulation matches in groups of four.
16-MAN OVER-THE-TOP-ROPE BATTLE ROYAL (Referees: Dave Hebner, Bronko Lubich, Nick Patrick, Gilberto Roman)
The first four out were Mad Dog Vachon (eliminated by the onrushing John Studd when Youssuf Ishmaelo ducked out of the way), Studd (eliminated himself in that move), Ishmaelo (eliminated by Hacksaw Jim Duggan), and Iron Sheik (by Duggan). They go into a Four-Way Falls Count Anywhere Elimination Match.
The next four out were Jay Strongbow (eliminated by Koko B. Ware), Duggan (by Jimmy Snuka), Snuka (by Nikolai Volkoff) and Volkoff (by Buddy Rose). These four go into a Four-Way Finisher Elimination Match,.
Four more went out. Bill Dundee (by Larry Zbyszko), S.D. Jones (by Destroyer), Destroyer (by Jim Londos) and Londos (by Rose) were put into a Four-Way Coffin Elimination Match.
The final four were Jerry Lawler, Rose, Ware and Zbyszko. Officials stopped the match at this point, and it was announced that they would be in a Four-Way Taped Fist Elimination Match. Rose, Ware and Zbyszko all looked disgusted, while Lawler grinned like the cat that ate the canary.
The winners of the next four matches will meet later in a Four-Way Steel Cage Elimination Match, with the winner receiving a check for $100,000.
After the Battle Royal, the announcers elaborated on the earlier disturbance in the arena parking lot, saying they now had some video footage of what happened. The video showed, from a distance, the Fantastics, Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers, being attacked by two men in black masks and black bodysuits. As the camera was run closer to the scene, jogging the picture, Fulton and Rogers were rammed into their rental car, and the opened trunk lid was slammed onto Fulton. As security and wrestlers ran out, the two masked men jumped into a car which was seen to have Kentucky license plates, and they took off. Fulton and Rogers were laid out, and arena medical personnel tended to them, Fulton seemingly having gotten the worst of it, with Gordon Solie noting that the Fantastics were scheduled to challenge the Road Warriors later in the night for the LWF World Tag Team Championship.
FOUR-WAY FALLS COUNT ANYWHERE ELIMINATION MATCH “BIG” JOHN STUDD (low-b) (w/ Bobby “The Brain” Heenan) (low) beat The IRON SHEIK (low) (w/ “Grand Wizard Abdullah Farouk) (low), YOUSSUF ISHMAELO (low) and MAURICE “MAD DOG” VACHON (low) (w/ Nikita Breznikov) (low) (Referees: James Beard, Dick Woherle) --Almost the entire match took place out on the arena floor. Vachon pinned the Iron Sheik on the ringside floor. Studd pinned Ishmaelo after slamming him against the arena wall. Studd won the match with his Backbreaker finisher on Vachon in the aisle as Heenan decked Breznikov, who was trying to interfere. Studd goes on to the Steel Cage Match.
FOUR-WAY FINISHER ELIMINATION MATCH “SUPERFLY” JIMMY SNUKA (low) beat “HACKSAW” JIM DUGGAN (low), “CHIEF” JAY STRONGBOW (low-b) and NIKOLAI VOLKOFF (low) (w/ Nikita Breznikov) (low) (Referees: David Manning, Johnny “Red Shoes“ Dugan) --Volkoff went out first after being worn down and beaten down by the Chief’s Tomahawk Chops. Meanwhile, Snuka crushed Duggan with the Superfly Leap. Snuka and Strongbow were hesitant to go after each other at first, but, knowing what was at stake, they turned up the heat on one another with a blistering exchange of chops before Snuka put Strongbow down and hit the Superfly on him to win and advance to the Steel Cage Match.
FOUR-WAY COFFIN ELIMINATION MATCH “The INTELLIGENT SENSATIONAL” DESTROYER (low) (w/ “Sir” Oliver Humperdink) (low) beat “SUPERSTAR” BILL DUNDEE (low-b), S.D. “SPECIAL DELIVERY” JONES (low) and “GOLDEN GREEK” JIM LONDOS (low) (Referees: Mark Curtis, Ron West) --Three coffins were wheeled out to the ringside area; as a man was put into a coffin and the lid was closed, officials would roll the coffin to the back. Jones was the first to go, put in the coffin by the Destroyer. Dundee and Destroyer then teamed up to put Londos into a coffin. The alliance was short-lived as Destroyer and Dundee battled to put each other into the last remaining coffin. The masked man overpowered the Australian and closed the lid on him, with help from Humperdink, to win the match and go on to the Steel Cage Match.
FOUR-WAY TAPED FIST ELIMINATION MATCH “LIVING LEGEND” LARRY ZBYSZKO (low) beat JERRY “The KING” LAWLER (low-b), “PLAYBOY” BUDDY ROSE (low) and “BIRDMAN” KOKO B. WARE (low) (Referees: Scrappy McGowan, Tommy Young) --An elimination in this match would come when a man is knocked down and couldn’t return to his feet before a 10-count. Each of the four men had their fists taped tightly, and everyone seemed to think this match would favor Lawler, given his history of punches and fist drops. The “King” dropped Rose first, and Zbyszko knocked out Ware. When it was down to Lawler and Zbyszko, the two ducked each other’s punches until Lawler started connecting. When the referee pulled Lawler off of Zbyszko in the corner, Zbyskzo took the opportunity to pull the padding off the top corner turnbuckle. When Lawler went back on the attack, Zbyszko sidestepped him and smashed Lawler’s head into the exposed metal. Zbyszko then landed a punch that put Lawler’s lights out, and the referee counted to 10 and gave the match to Zbyszko, who was the last man to enter the Steel Cage Match.
LWF WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP REMATCH Champions “The LEGION OF DOOM” The ROAD WARRIORS (Animal & Hawk) (low) (w/ “Precious” Paul Ellering) (low) beat The FANTASTICS (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) (low-b) when Hawk executed a Sunset Flip on a hurting Fulton to retain the belts (Referee: Jerry Calhoun) --The Fantastics came to the ring looking very banged up, Rogers with a bandage around his head and Fulton wearing extensive wrapping around his ribcage and a bandage around his head. The match didn’t last long, as the Warriors were merciless in their assault, ending with Hawk executing a simple wrestling move to win the match.
FOUR-WAY ELIMINATION STEEL CAGE MATCH--WINNER GETS $100,000 LARRY ZBYSZKO beat DESTROYER, JIMMY SNUKA and JOHN STUDD to win the $100,000 (Referees: Earl Hebner, Gilberto Roman) --Destroyer went out first, hit with Snuka’s Superfly Leap. Snuka and Zbyszko made an improbable team against Studd, executing an impressive double Sunset Flip to pin the big man. Then, it was Snuka vs. Zbyszko, with Snuka going up for the Superfly, but Zbyszko was able to get up before Snuka could take to the air. The battle continued, with Snuka ramming Zbyszko into the steel mesh repeatedly and opening him up. Snuka charged at Zbyszko, who basically fell down out of the way and making Snuka hit the corner at full speed, and Zbyszko rolled him up and grabbed a handful of tights to get the 1-2-3 and the $100,000 check.
LWF LEGENDS GONE WILD ’09 PPV MAIN EVENT-LWF WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH--BEST TWO OUT OF THREE FALLS “MODERN DAY WARRIOR” KERRY VON ERICH (low-b) beat Champion BRUNO SAMMARTINO (low-b) two falls to none to win the belt (Referee: Dave Hebner) --Von Erich won the first fall after hitting Sammartino with a series of Overhead Rights. Sammartino was staggering in the second fall, but he snatched Von Erich up in his Backbreaker and held him up for what seemed like forever, but the challenger would not submit. Von Erich punched his way out of it, and, once on his feet, he wound up and hit the Discus Punch, putting Sammartino down for the 1-2-3. Fans couldn’t believe they had seen Sammartino beaten, but they seemed happy that Von Erich was the one to beat him. Sammartino congratulated Von Erich and left him alone to celebrate.

LWF PRIME TIME CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING MISSISSIPPI COAST COLISEUM, BILOXI, MISSISSIPPI TUESDAY, JUNE 9, 2009
*****RESULTS*****
(Card source key: low=Filsinger’s Legends Of Wrestling; low-b=Legends Of Wrestling Bootlegs; low-m=Legends Of Wrestling Memphis Bootlegs)
DARK MATCH SHOHEI “GIANT” BABA (low) beat “RAVISHING” RICK RUDE (low) with the Neckbreaker Drop finisher
ABC Family & The LWF Present PRIME TIME CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING on ABC Family (8 p.m. Eastern / 7 p.m. Central, two hours, hosted by Mike Tenay & Larry Matysik, Bill Apter & Howard Finkel)
Tenay and Matysik opened the show by recapping the events of the Legends Gone Wild PPV, including the mysterious beating of the Fantastics in the parking lot that, directly or indirectly, led to their loss to the Road Warriors in the World Tag Team Championship match. They made mention of the car with Kentucky plates, and they had heard through an intermediary that the driver of the “getaway car” would make an appearance tonight.
LWF WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH, 10-MINUTE TIME LIMIT Champion TOMMY ROGERS of the FANTASTICS (w/ Bobby Fulton) (low-b) beat “SUPERFLY” JIMMY SNUKA (low) with the Sunset Flip finisher to retain the belt --Rogers was still banged up and bandaged from last night’s parking lot attack, but, fortunately for him, Tenay speculated that Snuka would be weakened from his participation in the series of stipulation matches last night. Sure enough, Rogers won the war of attrition, and both men showed good sportsmanship with handshakes after the match.
“SOUL TRAIN” MIKE JONES (low) beat “PLAYBOY” BUDDY ROSE (low) with the Cobra Clutch finisher --Rose entered the match with his usual cocky attitude and his demand that Finkel introduce him at a “slim, trim 217 pounds.” But, it was Jones who got the last laugh when he locked in the Cobra Clutch and put Rose out, leaving him laying in the ring like a beached whale.
In the ring, Bill Apter announced that the driver of the getaway car in last night’s attack on the Fantastics was in the building and asked him to come out. Out came … Jim Cornette! Immediately, Tenay and Matysik speculated that the masked attackers were the Midnight Express, but the question remained, which two? Cornette took the mic from Apter and said that he was here on a mission, a mission to make sure that the World Title shots for the Fantastics came to an end. “Yes, it was my team that attacked the Fantastics out in the parking lot, not once, but twice. We just got sick to freakin’ death of the sight of them on the Pay-Per-Views, and we decided to take matters into our own hands. Those two goofs are the most undeserving…” The Fantastics stopped Cornette in mid-sentence, still banged up and bandaged from last night. Fulton grabbed Cornette by his red jacket and said, “I mighta known you were behind this! Jimmy Cornette, you’ve got five seconds to get your Midnight Express out here RIGHT NOW, or we’re gonna mess you up bad!” Suddenly, the masked men hit the ring and started fighting with the Fantastics. In the melee, Cornette whacked Rogers across his bandaged back with his tennis racket, laying him out on the floor. A referee hit the ring and called for the bell, making this an official match.
JIM CORNETTE’S MYSTERY TEAM beat The FANTASTICS (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) (low-b) when one of the mystery team members beat Fulton with a Double Dropkick --Fulton couldn’t tag out because Rogers was on the floor. When the mystery team hit the Double Dropkick, Tenay started screaming. “WAIT A MINUTE … There’s only ONE team that does that! It can’t be!” But, it was. After winning, the team removed their masks, revealing … THE ROCK ‘N’ ROLL EXPRESS! Fans were dumbfounded as Robert Gibson, Ricky Morton and Cornette had a group hug and strutted to the back, leaving Fulton and Rogers to pick themselves up.
NIKOLAI VOLKOFF (low) (w/ Nikita Breznikov) (low) beat ROUGH of ROUGH & READY (w/ Boss Winters) (low-m) with a Cross-Body Block
Backstage, Apter was interviewing Buddy Rose, who coughed and sputtered and wanted a rematch next week with “Soul Train” Jones, when the Fantastics ran in and shoved Rose away, with Fulton telling him to “get the hell out of here, fat boy!” Rose, seeing how incensed Fulton and Rogers were, put his hands up and backed away. Fulton continued, “Bill Apter, I want to know what the hell is going on here! I thought we were tight with Ricky and Robert. I thought we were friends. All of a sudden, they’re with that piece of crap, Jimmy Cornette? Something doesn’t add up here, Bill, and we want to know what’s up!” Apter mentioned that, as Cornette and the RnR’s were leaving, they said they’d give their side of the story next week. Fulton said, “Good. I can guarantee you, we’ll be here. THIS we gotta hear!”

LWF PRIME TIME CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING MAIN EVENT--LWF NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH ED “STRANGLER” LEWIS (low) beat Champion BOB BACKLUND (low-b) with the Strangler’s Headlock finisher to win the belt --Lou Albano, manager of both men, sat at ringside in a neutral corner. However, during the course of the match, he interfered once for each man. When Lewis won the title, Albano congratulated him while Backlund dejectedly left the ring, casting stares at both men as he walked away. Albano saw this and chased after Backlund to patch things up as TV time expired.
