Who should have been World Champion but never was?
Top 5
1-Roddy Piper
2-Mr Perfect
3-Paul Orndorff(Would Have been a great champ)
4-Bobo Brazil
5-Stan Hansen(Great heel and after he broke Bruno's neck they could have ran with it.
I didnt pick Harley Race as by the time he joined WWE He was past his prime but could still go

1-Orndorff for sure should have been a champion. Huge missed opportunity there.
2,3- Mr. Perfect and Rick Martel would have been great heel champs
4- Owen. He was just great at whatever he was given.
5- Jake. Was Bray before Bray. Way ahead of his time.

Hansen in 76 probably wouldn't have been ready for it. As well, wrestling was simply different back then.
Only two votes for me. Orndorff and DiBiase. Orndorff could have had a short reign even during the peak of Hulkamania (I think he suited it better than Piper would have. No disrespect to the Rowdy One of course) and DiBiase probably should have just won the belt from Hogan and then if they wanted the title vacant could have used shenanigans to strip him of it. My guess is that Vince just wanted to say Andre was a World champion but it just felt so wrong. If they had done the twin referee thing with DiBiase it would have felt much more right.

I voted for Piper, Orndorff, Perfect, and Dibiase... Any 1 of them would have been a great short-term heel champion. I particularly think that Orndorff should have been given a shot.

1. Piper (enough potential for shenanigans and he had his entourage for pulling a cheap victory)
2. Snuka (was more than over enough, have him take it from Piper, also helps close out the feud)
3. Orndorff (gets it from Snuka, has a short-mid length run as a heel, loses it back to Hogan, then you can turn him face)
4. Hansen (exactly as jim said)
5. DiBiase (IMO, the biggest missed opportunity as a heel champ, so many ways to get the belt on or off him)
Honorable mention (still debated on putting him above Snuka): Bad News Brown... I know it would have been WAY ahead of the curve, but THIS could have been to foreshadowing of SCSA, he would have been perfect for a tweener champion)

I pretty much went with Hogan opponents - Piper, Orndorff, DiBiase, Studd, Bundy.

Of the guys on the list, I only went with Owen, Piper and DiBiase. My reasoning:
1.) Owen - Could have realistically just won the title at SummerSlam and lost it to Bret at Survivor Series in 1994 instead of doing the Backlund/Diesel stupidity that flatlined business.
2.) Piper - Probably an unrealistic pick since the WWF was a babyface territory during Piper's peak as a heel and Piper wasn't going out on his back for anyone, but he was absolutely hot enough as a heel to have warranted a run.
3.) DiBiase - The best pick of any, really. Great talker, one of the best workers ever, had a great gimmick. Macho Man is one of my favorites, but DiBiase should have won the title at Mania IV.
Perfect and Jake are two guys that always get brought up, and were great, but I don't know when you could have realistically given either the belt. The WWF didn't really run on heel champions until after both guys were well past their prime. You couldn't have given Jake the title in like 1987 because that screws up the Hogan/Andre program that kept things going into 1988 and there's no point after that where you could realistically make him champion. You couldn't have given Perfect the belt in like 1990 because then you further derail Warrior and by 1991, he wasn't doing so well physically. Maybe you could give Perfect the belt when he comes back in late 1992, but then you don't coronate Bret who absolutely was going to be there well after Perfect was.

Always thought Magnificent Muraco would have been a good short-term champ around 81-82 to beat Bob Backlund and lose it back to him. Piper or Orndorff would have been good in the same role for Hogan.
