Piper, Orndorff, Mr Perfect, DiBiase, and Jimmy Snuka
If there had been a brand split back in the 1980s then most if not all of them probably would have been a champion.

Problem for Rude there was no real time for him to win it...Warrior was unlikely to drop the title to him at Summer Slam and he was gone shortly after Survivor Series.

Problem those days Vince wanted a face champ. NWA Was Heel Flair.
A good heel champion would work great as Flair shown because every wanted to see him get his butt kicked and lose the title
I guess Vince didn't want to try and go with a heel champion

Heel champions wouldn’t fuel the merch machine.

My five in no order Mr Perfect, Dusty, John Studd, Bundy and other Rick Rude.
I didn't pick Owen because I think it would have happened if not for his death. A Bret Hart, Perfect, HBK three way feud over the title would have been awesome.

I went with Orndorff, Dibiase and Perfect. I think all three would have been excellent transition champions between Hogan reigns. I voted for these 3 based on storylines that occurred in which all 3 could have won it. Orndorff on SNME right before Mania 3, Dibiase at WM 4 and Perfect again on that infamous SNME where he and the Genius shattered the WWF belt.

I voted for these 3 based on storylines that occurred in which all 3 could have won it. Orndorff on SNME right before Mania 3 I heard that the reason for the "tie" in the SNME cage match (when both Hogan and Orndorff's feet touched the ground at the same time) was so that Orndorff would have a reason to face Hogan at WM3 in case Andre couldn't perform. This is also why Orndorff was purposely left off the WM3 card (jn case he needed to take Andre's place at the 11th hour). Fascinating to think what would have happened if they had to go with Plan B.
