One question that often puzzles me , what does a wrestler get out of saying NO to a card release ? Apart from breaking our fans dreams . Or don't they just understand how the game works . Various reasons depending on the wrestler. For example, the family of Earl Caddock (pioneer era guy who was a huge star in the late teens, early 1920s) didn't want him in a game with a bunch of "fake" wrestlers. Felt it tarnished his legacy as a legit athlete. Some have an inherent lack of trust after being screwed over by promoters during their careers. Just have to ask people and respect their wishes if they say no.

That's unfortunate to hear that Caddock will not be able to join the game, at least for now... obviously wouldn't have been a fit for this set but would have been awesome to get in the game some day. Hopefully when we do get that vintage set in the future, we can get a few decent new names then as well. I know I had signed a fun low level guy from the 1930s, which might fit depending on one's definition of vintage.

I think Vintage fits up through the early 40s before TV started changing things.

I often see people lump the stars of the '50s in with those previous generations and it just doesn't fit. I also like the term "Pioneer" for the guys like Muldoon, Gotch and Hackenschmidt. Feels like it gives them a proper amount of respect for paving the way for the guys who then carried it through to the TV era.

Pre- and post-WW2 applies to all kinds of things, and wrestling is no exception...though really the entire decade of the '40s seems like a dead zone when it comes to wrestling history, probably for reasons somewhat less simplistic than "there was a War." Yes, the NWA formed but even that didn't seem to get going until Thesz was really up and running as champion in the '50s.
