Bruiser Brody (20) v. Greg Valentine (45)
Brody cuts his way to the ring with his chain and fans are spilling over each other. Morgan Dollar attempts to regain some order with strict instructions for both men. Brody flings Valentine across the ring and unleashes stomps in the corner. Valentine avoids a tackle and rebounds Brody into the ropes. Backdrop … piledriver counter crushes The Hammer into the mat Brody backs into the corner, sets and lands a JUMPING KNEE DROP. 1, 2, 3 (R7/P7).
The dice seemed to have settled as Brody goes through the first round without any challenge from the Hammer.

Pampero Firpo (13) v. Fit Finlay (52)
Finlay goes after the eyes and Firpo hammer back with forearms to the back. Knee lift spills Finlay to the floor. Firpo follows and they brawl. Firpo eats the ring post. Double foot stomp to a bloody Firpo. Tombstone piledriver crushes Firpo and Finlay follows with a fireman’s carry Hot Shot. Firpo counters and hits a head butt. Finlay fires back with a knee drop and another fireman’s carry Hot Shot. Finlay hits his finisher TOMBSTONE PILEDRIVER and gets all of it. 1, 2 . . . shoulder up (R6/P4). THOUGHT IT WAS OVER! Double foot stomp connects. Firpo reverses a whip to the corner and lands a kick. Knee lift lands and Firpo bites Finlay. Running body slam downs Finlay. Whip to the corner but Finlay counters a charge with a knee to the chest. Firpo reverses a whip to the corner and lands a wicked lariat in the corner. They go to the floor and exchange blows. Firpo grabs a chair and Finlay takes it away cracking Firpo with the weapon. Morgan Dollar has seen enough and makes the disqualification call. A controversial disqualification sends Finlay packing and moves Firpo one step closer to a return to the round of 16.

Ricky Morton (12) v. Hacksaw Jim Duggan (53)
The fans are fired up before the bell. Strict instructions from Morgan Dollar before both men shake hands. Morton uses his speed to create some space and controls the action. Fist drop lands but a leg drop misses the target. Duggan misses his kick to the knee and Morton’s dropkick catches Duggan on the chin. Cover for two (R5/P3). Huracanrana sends Duggan to the floor. It is all Morton including a first drop and another hurcanrana. Duggan tries to get something going with an atomic drop but Morton escapes out the back and maintains control. Duggan finally manages to grab a headlock and slow things down. Tough Guy clothesline connects and a big kick in the corner does some damage. Atomic drop connects this time. Second atomic drop sets up another Tough Guy clothesline. Spinning Body Slam and Morton bails to the floor for a breather. Morton trips over Dr. Mike Lano and is tossed back to the floor. Duggan clotheslines Morton over the top and Morton lands hard and rolls into the guard rails. 7, 8, 9 . . . Morton is back in the ring. Duggan attacks with an Old Glory knee drop and wild haymakers. More wild haymakers and Duggan plants Morton with a piledriver. Old Glory knee drop. Tough Guy clothesline flattens Morton and Duggan follows with wild haymakers. Morton is down. He stumbles to this feet and Duggan hits the FLYING SPEAR for the win (R3/P5). That match was a lot of fun to play out as I kept looking for the big Morton comeback that never happened. I have always found Duggan had the tendency not be able to put his opponents away and that has resulted in his card coming out on the losing end more often than not. I was glad to see him advance to the next round to face the winner of the next match . . . Killer Kowalski (21) v. Kip James (44)
