In having a lot more time recently, I picked up a book I've been meaning to read callled The Universal Baseball Association. While the story is an interesting look into the descent of a man enveloped in his fictional tabletop baseball game, it also inspired me to pick up some of the tabletop games I haven't touched in a long time. After some initial thought, I settled on Champions of the Galaxy! I've had 2087 and '88 sitting around just waiting to be sprung back into action, and I figured why not do a fresh start? I've got one of my buddies on board, and we've begun playing through cards (online of course, in respect of social distancing.) We're planning on a ~20 card first season, and already have a few interesting ideas for the future of the fed. We scheduled tournaments for the singles and tag-team belts, played over 2 and 1 FCs respectively. I'll be posting results of Fight Card 1 sometime tonight, so stay tuned!

Alright, so for the first fight card of the season, we began our singles belt tournament with the round of 16. The 8 wrestlers sitting out of this one include the Space Croppers, Gladiators, Greek Gods, and Death Knight and the Executioner, who, unsure about their individual shot at the heavyweight belt, decided to team up and take a place in the tag-team bracket. In the interest of fairness, we set up a random number generator to pick the singles brackets, which presented some very interesting matchups. This was a fun one to schedule, because we had to make do with some questionable matchups. Regardless, we hope you enjoy!
Fight Card 1 - January 17, 2087. TV Event, Singles Belt Tourn. Round of 16 . Deimos.
1. Invincible Krakan Vs. Pulsar (FEUD)
2. Thantos Vs. Vanity
3. Genghis Khan Vs. Massif
4. Killer Queen Vs. Mutant
5. Commander Sam Vs. Lord Nexus
6. Star Warrior Vs. Pit Viper
7. Comrade Terror Vs. Omega
8. Wolf Vs. Exo-King
Welcome to GWF 2087! We’ve got an action packed TV special for you tonight, our Galaxian Champion Belt Tournament Round of 16! Our first match features the feuding Pulsar and Invincible Krakan, both eager to do battle. Let’s head to the ring.
Match 1. Invincible Krakan vs. Pulsar - To start off our show tonight, we have the ruthless bounty hunter Krakan facing off against babyface highflyer Pulsar! Pulsar came out of the gates with a highflying moveset, but Krakan was easily able to find a weakness in Pulsar’s poorly executed moves, getting the three-count with just one pin attempt.
Krakan wins by pin.
Match 2. Thantos vs. Vanity - Thantos came out to the ring bloodthirsty, in true villain fashion for this one, taking his time to methodically work up to his notorious Masterlock submission finisher. Finally, he had had enough of tormenting Vanity, and forced him to submit.
Thantos wins by submission.
Match 3. Genghis Khan vs. Massif - Massif came into the ring with one objective in mind: to win. He effortlessly worked up to his painful Volcanic Drop, and pinned Khan with ease.
Massif wins by pin.
Match 4. Killer Queen vs. Mutant - The man of 1,005 holds, Killer Queen, game planned the match, so he could work the lower back of Mutant. Mutant was able to get in a flurry of offense, however, and gave Killer Queen a run for his money, but the self-proclaimed best in the world at what he does, Killer Queen, was able to put Mutant into the Checkmate. Mutant was able to get to the ropes quickly, though to break the count. But who many to believe the future "Le Champion," Killer Queen unhooked Mutant’s hold on the ropes forcing him to tap out. Check and mate.
Killer Queen wins by submission.
Match 5. Commander Sam vs. Lord Nexus - The two wrestlers, seeded against each other despite alliance ties, shook hands before the match to signify sportsmanship. However, Commander Sam took no holds barred and hit an unexpecting Lord Nexus with his signature Sam’s Slam. What looked like a quick victory for Sam the Man slowly turned into a struggle for ring dominance with the incredible Nexus, who was eventually able to force Sam down for the pin after a devastatingly executed Titan Drop.
Lord Nexus wins by pin.
Match 6. Star Warrior vs. Pit Viper - Pit Viper, the third of the Flying Titans to wrestle tonight came out with an approach similar to Pulsar’s, albeit better executed. Pulling off a flying leg scissors, Pit Viper laid Star Warrior down for the pin within seconds of the bell ringing. Star Warrior struggled back to his feet, and was able to force Pit Viper to the mat and the eventual pin not long afterwards.
Star Warrior wins by pin.
Match 7. Omega vs. Comrade Terror - Two polar opposites stepped into the ring for the seventh match of the night: the honorable Omega against the dastardly Comrade Terror. Omega, the crowd rallied behind him, started with a forearm smash which was easily countered by the Comrade. Terror, sneering, punched Omega in the face and sent him to the mat. Boos rang out throughout Deimos, but following a deathjump from the terrorist, Omega was beyond a comeback.
Comrade Terror wins by pin.
Match 8. Exo-King vs. Wolf - The headline event of the night, Exo-King vs. Wolf started with a minutes-long struggle for momentum. The fight, centered around a blood-spattered turnbuckle, finally seemed to be heading in Exo-King’s direction, until a devastating reversal from Wolf. After kicking out twice, Exo-King was able to gain a minute of relief, so Wolf rolled out of the ring to buy some time. Infuriated, the King ran outside of the ring, only to be sent through the announcer’s table by Wolf. Due to a controversial decision by the referee, Wolf lost by disqualification.
Exo-King wins by DQ.
Following an action packed card, we now have the lineup for the singles round of 8, coming to your holovision screen next month!
Star Warrior vs. Krakan Massif vs. Killer Queen Exo-King vs. Comrade Terror Thantos vs. Lord Nexus
That will all be ladies and gents! Tune in on the 31st to see which of four tag-teams will take be named the inaugural tag champions!
-.-.-.-
So, our first card was definitely a winner! There were quite a few duds mixed in there, but a lot of exciting moments as well. Thantos really gave Vanity a beating in their match, and seeing Pit Viper almost get the pin on Star Warrior really got the crowd going. Wolf vs. Exo-King was a legitimately very good match, with a lot of back and forth, as you'd expect from the two. My personal favorite of the card however was Sam vs. Nexus, a very unlikely matchup, but it unfolded like a classic WWF fight. Commander Sam approaching the ring like a true sport, and then immediately putting Nexus down with a Sam's Slam was very in character for him, and Nexus's eventual comeback made it all the better.
Playing through this with someone a bit newer to the game is fun as well, seeing them get to know the wrestlers definitely brings back memories of opening up that set for the first time. So far the other calzoneman's favorite seems to be Killer Queen; he likens him to Jericho in his wrestling style. Personally, I'm pulling for Nexus, but the bracket could easily become heel-dominated if things line up the right way. We'll have to see. Stay tuned!

Next up is the tag-team tournament! In case you're interested in rule specifics, tag outs on defense were all considered as 6 or belows for this case. Also, in terms of tag-team fatigue, your partner would lose 1 fatigue for every successful pin kick out. For example, if Massacre had 2 fatigue but was currently tagged out, and Brute successfully kicked out of a pin, Massacre would lose 1 fatigue. Wrestlers tagging in on offense would enter at the same offense level as their partner tagging out. Pin saves were used liberally, 2 per match, with the exception of the Greek Gods this time around. Here we go!
-.-.-
Fight Card 2 - January 31, 2087. TV Event, Tag-Team Tourn. Deimos
Good evening ladies and gentlemen! Tonight, we will be bringing to you 3 fights between 8 talented wrestlers! First, the Neptunian Space Croppers face the Greek Gods, to send the better of the two teams into contention for the GWF Tag-team belt. Next, we'll see the vicious Gladiators of Aethra take on the new combination of Death Knight and the Executioner! GWF insiders have been spreading rumors that the new team was persuaded into the tournament by Thantos, hoping that Death Knight would be able to secure a reliable source of power for the Evil Ones in the Tag Belt.
Match 1. Greek Gods vs. Neptunian Space Croppers - The Neptunian Space Croppers came into the ring a clear underdog against the dominant Greek Gods, Proteus and Actagon. Renegade, starting the first round, got off to a quick offense, and despite Proteus’s efforts to help his teammate, he only seemed to make things worse. Renegade tagged out to Beast Rider, who did a classic Bulldog Shuffle to pin Actagon. (1) The second fall went similarly, the Space Croppers dominating the offensive, countering what seemed like every one of the Gods opportunities for a shift in the momentum. Renegade ended up pinning Proteus off a devastating Cropper Slam. (0)
Match 2. Gladiators vs. Death Knight/Executioner
In enter the heels following the Neptunian upset of the last fight. Gladiators vs. the masked men proved to be a grueling match, leading to a third-fall scenario. Massacre and Brute worked well as a team, tagging out at opportune moments, to take an eventual pinfall victory against the team of Executioner and Death Knight. The second fall however, became a much longer struggle of continued reversals, Death Knight finally seeing some action and helping his teammate to get the pin on Massacre. The third fall saw Massacre finally use his finisher just seconds in, as the battered combatants took out every move in their arsenal to secure a spot in the finals. Massacre eventually spotted an opportunity in Executioner leaving the ring to do a devastating gladiator piledriver into the concrete! Death Knight tried to help his bloodied teammate back into the ring, but to no avail as the referee’s count reached 10.
Finals - Space Croppers vs. Gladiators
The Space Croppers entered the ring, following the intermission, still flying on the momentum from their last win. Unfortunately, the Gladiators weren’t having as much as an off-day as the Gods were, and were able to secure the belt in 2 pinfalls. Renegade and Beast-Rider did work pretty well as a team, coming in for important pin saves and switching out at the right moments. Renegade was even able to put the Spinecracker on Brute in the second fall, but Brute’s iron will held him from submission. Eventually Massacre pinned Beast Rider to win the second fall, naming the Gladiators the inaugural Heavyweight Tag Team Champions!
The outcome left the Greek Gods spiteful, knowing that they could have given the gladiators a much better fight than the Space-Croppers did. Death Knight and the Executioner put forth an impressive performance though, and with the possibility of Thantos' intervention, the Gladiators might have a long line of challengers. That's all for tonight. Be sure to tune in 2 weeks from now, when one of 8 fantastic wrestlers will secure a spot in GWF history, as the 2087 inaugural heavyweight champion!
-.-.-
So that closes out card 2! I was a bit disappointed to see the Greek Gods get so beat up by the Space-Croppers, but that's how it goes in the GWF! Here's to hoping that Proteus and Actagon will get their ACT together for the upcoming cards. 2 other scheduled tag teams right now are the Federation Defense Fighters, who consist of Omega and Massif (Going for a André and Chief Jay Strongbow/SD Jones kinda vibe) and the Society of Death, made up of Ghengis Khan and Krakan. Depending how things unfold, we might add in another two, I think Nexus/Pulsar could make a fun team and maybe Vanity/Killer Queen? We'll see.
In the meantime I think my next post will be a roster of sorts, just to have a check on what's going on so far. I'd also like to get living rules/ranking documents up in the main post eventually.

Alright, roster/rules post!
The current roster consists of the main 24 wrestlers from the 2087 set, but also includes three undercard jobbers from the GWF Birthday Bash set that I've been loaned. They are Gila, Zouave the Conqueror, and Meteor. We're going to try not to use them too too much, but with only 24 wrestlers and 6 tag teams, they can come in handy when trying to build a wrestler in the ranks. Gila and Zouave sometimes work as a tag team, so they're definitely an effective tool. Normally we wouldn't mismatch sets at all, but since these guys are exclusive and don't necessarily "fit in" to any specific point in the timeline, we figured we could write them in, so to speak.
In terms of rankings, it's pretty simplistic: each wrestler/tag team has an individual ranking score based on how they won/lost. Victory by pinfall will give you +5 to your score, while losing by pinfall gives you -5. Count-outs are worth 2 points, and DQs are worth only 1. At the end of the season, scores are erased, and your new score is 1+how many opponents you were ahead of in the ranks. My number 1 wrestler will end up with 27 points, having been ahead of 26 other wrestlers. There's no systematic way for how many points are needed to challenge for the belt, at least not currently. At the moment, they're more just for the sake of being able to see who's doing well and who isn't.
As for specific rules, this is what we have:
- All title bouts are decided by 2 out of 3 falls
- Wrestlers challenging for the belt only deal ½ fatigue per pin attempt/add 1 move. Halves are rounded down. (?)
- Wrestlers can tag out on defense on a roll of 6 or less, unless they’re not an official tag team in which case they tag out on 4 or less.
- If your teammate kicks out of a pin in a tag match, you lose one fatigue.
- Title bouts can’t be settled by disqualification. If the defending champion loses by DQ, points are settled accordingly, but the belt doesn’t change hands.
- Tagging out on defense lets your teammate enter on level 1 offense
- Tagging out on offense lets your teammate enter on your current level of offense
Finally, I'd just like to note that I'll be posting the score spreadsheets, rule doc, and a log of title history in the main post to this thread, in case you'd like to check them out. Just beware that we're generally a few cards ahead, so you might see some spoilers! (Current title holders' cells are filled in golden.)
That's all for now folks, FC 3 should be going up sometime tonight maybe? Stay tuned.

Interesting that you're doing this with a friend. I've never done that before with this game. Do you control one guy/team and your friend controls the other? That's pretty neat to do this collaboratively.

Interesting that you're doing this with a friend. I've never done that before with this game. Do you control one guy/team and your friend controls the other? That's pretty neat to do this collaboratively. Yeah, we basically play where one of us takes either wrestler and then we make all the decisions for them. The game in that regard doesn't play out too much differently, but I've always found that writing is easier when having another person to bounce ideas off, and that's half the game for something like Champions of the Galaxy. I've never played collaboratively, but so far it's going pretty well!

Fight Card 3 - February 14th, 2087, TV Event, Singles Belt Tournament, Round of 8, 4, and 2 - Deimos.
Round of 8: Star Warrior vs. Invincible Krakan Massif vs. Killer Queen Exo-King vs. Comrade Terror Thantos vs. Lord Nexus
Welcome, ladies and gents to another spectacular night of GWF wrestling! Tonight, one of 8 fighters will lay their claim to become the inaugural federation champion!! Let's go to the ring for our first match, Star Warrior vs. the Invincible Krakan!
Match 1. Star Warrior vs. Invincible Krakan - Krakan, similarly to Pit Viper, got off to a violent start, executing multiple painful moves on Star Warrior. However, he got carried away after Star Warrior left the ring, and after a steel chair slam, was quickly disqualified. This expectedly didn’t sit will with Krakan, who voiced his discontent with the referee with a few punches. Massif, coming to the ring for his match against Killer Queen was visibly bothered by this, and had to drag Krakan away from the ring before getting in.
Star Warrior wins by DQ.
Match 2. Massif vs. Killer Queen - Assumedly still heated from his encounter with Krakan, Massif’s temper got the best of him in this match, as he was DQ’d against Killer Queen in a similar fashion. Massif could be seen in a shouting match with the referee, and left the ring in a huff.
Killer Queen wins by DQ.
Match 3. Exo-King vs. Comrade Terror - After 2 disappointing matches, the crowd was all in as the two notorious heels came to the ring. The Comrade and Exo-King, equally matched fighters, tussled for a while until Exo-King was left for a pin after a running clothesline from the Comrade.
Comrade Terror wins by pinfall.
Match 4. Thantos vs. Lord Nexus - Nexus knew coming into this match that he’d need to avoid the Masterlock at all costs. He succeeded in this early in the match, accruing 4 pin attempts before Thantos’s eventual second wind. Eventually, Thantos worked up to the MASTERLOCK, which even the incredible Nexus was unable to struggle through.
Thantos (4) wins by submission.
-.-.-.-
Pausing for a second here, I just want to say that I called it! We have Star Warrior going into the bracket against 3 heels. Will he be able to come out on top? Let's see!
-.-.-.-
SEMI-FINALS: Entering the rounds of 4 and 2, disqualifications rules have been done away with!
Match 5. Killer Queen vs. Comrade Terror - Killer Queen, the definite wildcard going into the semi-finals approached the ring arrogantly, having quickly won his match against Massif due to DQ. However, this time he wouldn’t be as fortunate. Comrade Terror, eager to take advantage of the no DQ rules repeatedly threw Killer Queen over the ropes and out of the ring. After 3 just barely unsuccessful pin attempts, Comrade Terror executed a devastating ATOMIC WARHEAD on Killer Queen right into the concrete! Nearly unconscious, the Lionheart could not even make it to his feet before the 10-count.
Comrade Terror wins by count-out (3)
Match 6. Thantos vs. Star Warrior (FEUD!) - A classic rivalry, and main event material, Thantos vs. Star Warrior was a match eagerly waited for by the attendees in the Deimos Dome. Star Warrior, although quickly delivering light offensive moves, was just as swiftly countered by the game-master Thantos, who laid on 1 pin attempt before applying the MASTERLOCK! However, through Star Warrior’s heart and willpower, he was able to electrify the fans into a frenzy, as he managed to break out of the unbreakable MASTERLOCK! Thantos, stunned, quickly went for a hard-hitting clothesline, which shocked Star Warrior, who could not manage to kick out before the referee’s 3-count.
Thantos wins by pinfall (3)
FINALS -
Match 7. Comrade Terror vs. Thantos - And now, the finals of the Calzoneman Championship Simulator! Both fighters being uniquely despicable, fans reluctantly rallied behind Comrade Terror, as they wanted to see anyone put a stop to the man who pinned Star Warrior. Comrade Terror, taking the majority of the time on offense was able to lay down Thantos for an unsuccessful pin. Quickly executing his Atomic Warhead finisher afterwards, it looked like Thantos may have been out of luck. However, Thantos, kicking out on a 2-count found enough weakness in Comrade Terror’s attempted attacks to seize an offensive opportunity, and eventually went for the terrifying Masterlock. Comrade Terror, despite his best efforts, could not feel the energy of the crowd quite as well as Star Warrior, so he could not manage to break the hold. He ended up, like so many others, tapping out to the Masterlock. Thantos was crowned as the inaugural GWF Heavyweight Champion!
Thantos (2) wins by submission.
That's all for tonight folks. Our supercard is coming up soon, so stay tuned for more!
-.-.-.-
SO, Thantos took the belt! Comrade Terror vs. Thantos in the finals was a fun match, but I was hoping Terror would take it. This begins an interesting story right away, as we have 2 heels holding the titles. Although, it's definitley clear to sense some unease in Thantos as the rebellious Gladiators hold on to the tag-team title. There's a lot to come! We still need to sort out actual official names of belts, and now we begin with building up some new guys to challenge for the title. I'd like to also get a better format for these posts so they pop a little more, and don't look so much like a wall of text. Also, next card you'll meet some new characters as we start building our commentary/interview team. A bit further down the line the commissioner may even be coming into things. It's all ridiculous, but it's all fun as well! Stay tuned.

Good card. I had a feeling Thantos would take it. Thantos seems to be most people's first champion. Looking forward to see where you go from here.

Good card. I had a feeling Thantos would take it. Thantos seems to be most people's first champion. Looking forward to see where you go from here. Thanks! That Masterlock is deadly. Nexus' fight with him I think was a great example of Thantos as a wrestler. He's not totally dominant in the ring, but once he gets the chance for his finisher things go south fast.
