Thought I'd check if there were any baseball fans that were checking out the KBO baseball games on ESPN & ESPN2 since MLB isn't playing right now. I've been to a couple of games live in Korea and they are a ton of fun. It won't be the same without the raucous fans in the stadium but it's still fun to be watching baseball again. I'm loving that we will be able to follow the KBO as well. Our favorite teams are the LG Twins and the NC Dinos.

My cousin is Korean and she likes baseball (we have gone to Mariners games together in Seattle.) But I am not sure who her team is, probably a team from Seoul as I believe that is where her heritage is traced.

I know for sure the LG Twins and Doosan Bears are in Seoul. They have the same home stadium, Jamsil Stadium.

I really miss baseball, just not enough to get up at 5:30am to watch. Have been catching the last few innings of the live games the past couple of days though. The replay times on ESPN don't work for me unfortunately. Rooting for Doosan Bears.

There was an article today in the LVRJ about Korean Baseball. I found out the Kia Tigers are being managed by UNLV's Matt Williams (a former All Star with the San Francisco Giants.)

There was an article today in the LVRJ about Korean Baseball. I found out the Kia Tigers are being managed by UNLV's Matt Williams (a former All Star with the San Francisco Giants.) I had seen that as well. From what they are saying during the game broadcasts, the teams are starting to embrace a bit more of a western style of play, along with utilizing analytics which is something that has apparently not been a huge part of the game in the past. The western players are also very important to a team's success or failure. Each team is limited in how many non-Koreans they can have on the team. I believe they can only have 3 foreign players per team. So, from what I understand, if a team's foreign players are performing well in a given year, that team typically does well. If they don't perform well, the team usually doesn't. That stat makes it sound like the Korean players don't matter. You'd likely assume that they aren't as good as western players on the whole, and there is probably some truth to that but there are still some really talented players. Some have some realistic MLB aspirations. I can't pretend to fully know why the skill level seemingly isn't as high as in America but a couple reasons I've thought of are: - The KBO has only been around since 1982 - I don't think Korean parents push sports the way American parents sometimes do. - The money in the KBO isn't enormous, like it is in the MLB, so taking a chance to try to make it to the KBO probably isn't as big of a draw as it is in the US. I imagine some potentially talented players just decide to go get a 9-5.

Of the games I've watched thus far, have to say that generally the fielding is just terrible. Outfielders taking routes on fly balls that aren't even close. Infielders needlessly playing grounders on in-between hops. Makes you truly appreciate the caliber of play you see in MLB and even the minors.
Still, it's live baseball and I'll continue to watch when I can.

Outside of the 1 Mets game a year I go to I don't watch MLB. I honestly can't imagine me ever having the desire to watch International baseball.

My kids are Korean so anything Korean has a little extra special place in our household so we're definitely biased but we're enjoying being able to watch these games.
