Next weekend I am making my first trip to Indianapolis to see GCW. I probably won't do much sightseeing there due to the pandemic and I am only going to be there less than 48 hours, but I will still need to eat. When I travel, I like to check out the local food. For example in Minnesota last Summer, I enjoyed eating a Juicy Lucy burger while eating lunch with cman and pikemojo. So what type of food is Indiana famous for? I know Chad Olson has been to Indianapolis (he was heading there the day the Hall of Fame weekend in Iowa ended in 2018) and I know TTX lives in the area. So any suggestions for food in Indianapolis from either of them or from anyone else who has been there would be appreciated. Thank you! |

Yep pork tenderloin is what I was going to say. They are also big in IL. I had one when I lived there. It was the size of a small pizza pan on a regular bun lol. Very yummy.

Besides the pork tenderloin (yes definitely) St. Elmo is famous for its Shrimp Cocktail though they are busy and expensive. I don't eat downtown much but most of the places I have are really good. For a quick bite, Five Guys burgers (not technically local but close enough) is also great.

I've been there a few times. I don't recall anywhere I ate that was really epic. Lots of good bars/breweries! |

Vegas, if you're looking for some really good food while you are in Indy, I suggest you go to The Coachman in Plainfield. Their Tenderloin is amazing, and they have house-made Italian dressing (and I think ranch dressing, but we always got the Italian) that was really, really good. It's a little bit of a drive to Plainfield, but not too bad. Ask if Wes or Taylor are working, and if they are, ask if you can get seated in their section. Tell them Christian MacLeod sent you. I have a question. Is this picture what the pork tenderloin looks like that you guys are talking about? If so, it looks great, but how do you eat it? Do you pick it up by the bun and start eating it on the sides of the pork? Forgive me if that is a stupid question, I just have never seen a sandwich like this where the meat is much bigger than the bun as it will be my first trip to Indiana and I have only been to Iowa once. It does look really good though and I am looking forward to hopefully trying one this weekend (but I will be ordering mine without the onions in the photo.)  |
