I also run cards where the battle royal is the opener and determines the match order by eliminations. Originally got the idea from an AWA card held in November 1985. There was an article in Ringside magazine with cool pictures and always stuck with me. Helps shake up the roster and mix up matchups.

I did this years ago in my USWA, as this was a popular gimmick in some Southern territories. (I even remember WCW doing it on a card at the Omni in Atlanta around '92.) I actually did it as an 11-man Battle Royal where the 10 guys eliminated were paired up with each other in singles matches and the winner challenged the Southern champion for the title in the main event. It was fun to see what pairings came out of the eliminations. I even had a few matches that were sort of dream matches that never happened again. I was thinking of bringing that stipulation back at some point. Cory Olson, that is very cool and intriguing way to set up your show! It would be alot of fun to watch that and see who gets eliminated next to set up the matches that you did not know in advance (in this case for the booker as well as the fans) would take place. I like this! Thanks, Zeke! In my USWA especially, I like having something important at stake in the Battle Royals. Most of the ones I've had usually are for a shot at one of the titles. Sometimes, I will do a title shot and a cash prize, since a lot of times the cash was the biggest part of the Battle Royals in the territorial days. I liked this format of the order of elimination determining the rest of the card's matches but I still wanted to give a title shot to the winner. If I did 10 men, eight would get another match on the card, the winner would get the title shot, but the last wrestler eliminated would be left off. So that's why I went with 11 men, even though it sounds unusual. There is a method to my madness.

I'm pretty sure somewhere along the way I had a champion in the battle royal and whoever ended up getting a match with him based on elimination order got a title shot.

I have a pdf from Cynthia Celeste Miller that covers an interesting way to play out a Battle Royal.
I'd be happy to share if anyone is interested. Just PM me an email address to send it to or look me up on the FG Discord or something.

Just PM me an email address to send it to or look me up on the FG Discord or something. I had that pdf and I used to use it for my battle royals. From what I remember there was some things I liked about it such as power ratings being a factor (making it harder for example to throw out someone like King Kong Bundy compared to throwing out someone such as Koko B. Ware.)
