December Week 4, Year 1



WWF Raw


Look at end of last Raw with Bret and Kowalski forming Hart Foundation. Then we see them in the back and Bret has something to say.

Bret Hart: Buddy Rogers. The so called every man's buddy. You think you run WWF but you do not run anything right now. You just have not faced anyone that can stand up to you yet. Well, that changes. I am issuing a challenge for tonight. Me and Killer Kowalski here against the tag team of the nWa, The Invaders. No belts on the line. Just pride. A chance to show who the best is and where the real power lies. I know you guys are not chicken so we will see you in tonight's main event.


The shot turns to the broadcast booth which is decorated for New Years Eve and we see Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan.

Gorilla Monsoon: How about that Heenan. The WWF World Champion Bret Hart throwing down the gauntlet and challenging The Invaders.

Bobby Heenan: I always thought he had a screw loose and this proves it. Why would he want to take on The Invaders and nWa? Big mistake. Huge!

Gorilla Monsoon: Maybe it has something to do with the nWa attacking him not too long ago. Anyways we have a great show for you tonight folks. James Storm will be facing a familiar foe in Blackjack Mulligan. In a rematch from a few weeks back Sgt. Slaughter takes on his old time enemy, the Iron Sheik. Kurt Angle will take on Giant Baba then in our main event, it has been made official, Bret Hart and Killer Kowalski of the newly formed Hart Foundation will do battle with The Invaders. Neither the WWF World Heavyweight nor World Tag Team titles will be on the line in that match.

Bobby Heenan: Enough talking. Let's get to the action so we can get out of here. Time to party. (Blows on a party favor)


"The TN Cowboy" James Storm vs Blackjack Mulligan w/"Cowboy" Bob Orton Jr

A really good match that saw Storm rely on his speed advantage while Blackjack went with his power. Momentum went back and forth. Then Orton got on the apron and when Blackjack tossed Storm into the ropes Orton hit him with a forearm to the back of his head. The referee caught it and ended the match. Orton tried to argue it was an accident as he was trying to protect himself, but the referee was not buying it.

Winner: "The TN Cowboy" James Storm via disqualification (3 stars)

Mulligan and Orton Jr attacked Storm after the match. They are stomping on him as he layed on the mat. Suddenly someone came running out from back. It was not Roddy Piper but another former tag partner of Storm. Gorilla Monsoon said, "that is the "Wildcat" Chris Harris". Harris got in the ring and fought off Mulligan and Orton Jr and then the two men exited the ring and retreated toward the back. Harris helped Storm to his feet. America's Most Wanted have reunited.


Sgt. Slaughter vs Iron Sheik

The last time these two men met it went to a time limit draw. This match did not get close to the time limit. Slaughter had complete control and finished his nemisis off with a Cobra Clutch.

Winner: Sgt. Slaughter by submission (1 star)


An announcement for next Raw's main event. The WWF Intercontinental Champion, "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase will be defending his title against "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka. That should be an amazing match.


Kurt Angle vs Giant Baba w/Mr. Fuji

The two men went to war, and each refused to back down to the other. In the end the difference was Angle could not find a way to deal with the size advantage Giant Baba had. Baba hit his finisher, Neckbreaker Drop, and pinned the rookie.

Winner: Giant Baba via pinfall (3 stars)


A reminder that the WWF will be crowing its first ever Light Heavyweight Champion in the coming weeks. Next week some of the names of those competing for the title will be revealed.


Bret "The Hitman" Hart and Killer Kowalski vs The Invaders w/Buddy Rogers and Andre the Giant in a non-title match

Killer Kowalski and "Dr. Death" Steve WIlliams started for their teams. Kowalski gained the early advantage. He nailed Williams with a Bombs Away. He then tagged Bret Hart in but he could not hold service. Williams tagged out to Terry Gordy to get a breather. Gordy was very impressive against Bret. Bobby Heenan pointed out that if Gordy beat Bret he would not get the World title but would surely earn a title shot. Bret rode out the storm and was able to tag out. The next few minutes saw tags and some good wrestling action. The end came when Bret Hart slapped on his Sharpshooter finisher on Terry Gordy who quickly tapped.

Winner: Bret "The Hitman" Hart and Killer Kowalski by submission (3 stars)

Soon as the bell rang Bret and Kowalski dropped to the floor just as Buddy Rogers and Andre the Giant entered the ring. Buddy got a microphone.

Buddy Rogers: Congrats. You guys got lucky today. Just know your time is running out. We WILL get our hands on you and I WILL get that World Championship. The numbers are not in your favor. We have the advantage. We run the WWF. You will lose your title Bret and you will lose everything else Kowalski.

The two members of the new Hart Foundation and the four members of the nWa just glare at each other as Raw ends.




WCW Nitro


Nitro comes on the air, and we see Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko swinging around noise makers. Tony showing more excitement than Larry.

Tony Schiavone: Happy early New Year's and welcome to WCW Nitro. The hottest wrestling show on TV today. As always, I am joined by the Living Legend, Larry Zbyszko.

Larry Zbyszko: Thank you Tony. Happy New Year to all of our viewers. Another year has passed, and I just keep getting better and better.

Tony Schiavone: Well, that is debatable. What is not is Nitro keeps getting better and better. Tonight, we will see Larry Sweeney, the leader of Sweet 'n' Sour International in action as well as The James Gang, Eddie and Doug Gilbert, a couple Mike's trying to move up the ladder here in WCW in Mike Graham and Mike Rotunda then in our main event Moose will be defending the WCW US title against "Wildfire" Tommy Rich.

Larry Zbyszko: We are ending the year on a high note that will propel us into the new year as we reach new heights or top-notch wrestling. Let's go to the ring to get the party started Tony.


Larry Sweeney w/Sweet 'n' Sour International vs Yellow Mask

To start the match Larry slapped Yellow Mask across his face and then strutted around a bit. He got a bit cocky and after a failed pin attempt Yellow Mask got in some offense. But Larry was able to make a comeback and used his 12 Large Elbow Drop finisher to pick up the W.

Winner: Larry Sweeney by pinfall (2 stars)


Gordon Solie is with James E. Cornette

James E. Cornette: What Gordon? What do you want? Don't you know I am a busy man?

Gordon Solie: I understand, and I promise to not take up too much of your valuable time. Everyone knows you are the manager of Midnight Express and part of the Four Horsemen faction. But what are you doing with Powers of Pain? I thought you were made that they did not take out the Road Warriors. Are they part of the Horsemen as well?

James E. Cornette: Let me tell you something Gordon. My business dealings are no business of yours. But as everyone knows I am a generous man. So, I will give you some news to help your little interviewer career. No, the Powers are NOT part of the Horsemen. They are simply a side project of mine. I told them since they did not get the job done, they owe me. Thus, for now, I will be managing them and taking a high percentage of their earnings till my initial investment pays off. Now, that is that and I am done with this interview.

With that Cornette walks off as Solie thanks him for his time.


The James Gang vs Gilbert Boys w/Tommy Gilbert

The James Gang were standing up for their family. They were working Doug Gilbert over as his brother Eddie stood on apron wanting to be tagged in. The Gilbert Boys father, Tommy, was making a spectacle of himself on the floor. He ended up getting in an argument with a fan in the first row. A large, muscular woman.

Inside the ring The James Gang hit a spike piledriver on Doug and tried a pin attempt, but Doug kicked out. They tried it again, but this time Doug was too close to the ropes so no pin attempt. Kip hits his leg drop finisher on Doug but Eddie, who had enough standing around, ran in and broke up the pin. The four men brawled then The James Gang went to work on Doug again. A third spike piledriver led to B.G. James pinning Doug.

Winner: The James Gang via pinfall (1 star)

Eddie got in the ring and attacked B.G. which brought Kip into the ring. The two teams started brawling again and ended up on the floor. Tommy tried to get involved but the large woman hoped the barricade and attacked him. Security and WCW officials came down and tried to break up the fight while also taking control of the fan. It was mayhem but slowly things calmed down. That is when The James Gang came over and told security to leave the woman alone. They said she was with them. Then The James Gang and this mysterious woman walked off to the back leaving everyone with questions.


A promo for the upcoming Crocket Cup. The first four teams have been announced with more coming next week.

Mike Graham vs Mike Rotunda

This was a pure wrestling match. Rotunda showed off his collegiate wrestling skills as he dominated the early minutes of the match. But Graham is tough and even survived a Butterfly Suplex from Rotunda. Then Graham started to get going. He got Rotunda in a Figure Four Leg Lock. Rotunda tried to escape but he could not and ended up tapping.

Winner: Mike Graham by submission (3 stars)


A very angry Ivan Koloff is chewing out Boris Zhukov over his recent poor performances. Ivan says there is only one thing he can think to do about it. When Boris asks what that is a very large man comes in and lays Boris out with a clothesline. Ivan says he is getting rid of dead weight. Since everyone brings in their family these days he is doing the same. He introduces everyone to his nephew, Nikita Koloff. The two men walk off leaving Boris on the ground, groaning and grabbing at the back of his head.


Moose w/Ric Flair vs "Wildfire" Tommy Rich for the WCW US Championship

Tommy got in some offense, but Moose just shook it off. Then it was all Moose and he finished Tommy with a pounce.

Winner: Moose via pinfall (2 stars)

Moose waited for Tommy to get back to his feet then he almost cut Tommy in half with a Spear. Ric Flair got into the ring and handed Moose a microphone.

Moose: Really? Really WCW? Is this the best you can find to take me on? A no talent redneck. I am the greatest Unitest State Heavyweight Champion of all time. If you cannot find someone worthy of challenging me then just stop trying. Because I am the best and I have better things to do then beat up chumps.

As Nitro ends we see Moose flexing in the ring as Ric Flair holds up the Four Horsemen hand sign as he yelled "woo".




ECW Chaos


Chaos kicks off with a video package looking at highlights from the Holiday Hell PPV. Then the show goes live.


Joey Styles: What a crazy night Holiday Hell was. Welcome to Chaos and Happy New Year everyone. I am Joey Styles and tonight we have some more hot wrestling action for you. We will see Chris Sabin taking on a new comer to ECW plus a tag match between Lucha Underground and Masked Madness of the Army of Darkness. That and more including the ECW World Tag Team Champions, the Briscoe Brothers, will have something to say about winning the NWA-TNA Tag Team Championships at the PPV.


Chris Sabin vs Rocky Kernodle

The fans were chanting "Rocky, Rocky" as Kernodle came out. Sadly, it did not help him as Sabin dominated the action. Sabin got on a role, tried a pair of pin attempts and ended up hitting a diving crossbody to finally pin Rocky.

Winner: Chris Sabin by pinfall (1 star)


The camera goes to the back where Ken Shamrock and Shane Douglas are being held back by security as they yell at each other. Shamrock says if Douglas wants a piece of him he can do it in tonight's main event. Shane agrees and we have a PPV level match for the main event.


Lucha Underground vs Masked Madness w/Sir Oliver Humperdink

Lucha started strong and were working The Grappler over but could not put him away. At one point The Grappler tried to make the much needed tag but came up inches short as Stryker pulled him back to Lucha Underground's side of the ring. When Vampiro and The Grappler took the action out to the floor it was The Grappler who came out on top. He entered the ring and tagged The Spoiler in.

The Spoiler jumped on Vampiro as soon as he got back in the ring. The Spoiler tried to end the night, but Vampiro refused to be pinned. Then action went back and forth for a few minutes. It was The Grappler finally who wore down Stryker. He seemed to be loading up his boot with the referee distracted by Humperdink. The first (loaded) boot did not pick up the win, but the second one got the job done.

Winner: Masked Madness via pinfall (3 stars)


The Briscoe Brothers come out to the stage. They have the ECW World Tag Team Championship belts around their waists and are holding the NWA-TNA Tag Team Championship belts.

Jay Briscoe: At the recent PPV, Holiday Hell, me and my brother won des belts from those TNA punks, the L A X. They came in talking trash but sure could not back it up. Could they Mark? (Mark grins and shakes his head no) Let's show LAX and those TNA clowns what we think of their titles.

The brothers walk down the ramp, turn to the side and go over to a trash can. The lift the belts and drop them one at a time into the trash can. Then both men spit into the trash can. The fans eat it up and are chanting "E C Dub" real loud.


Ken Shamrock vs Shane Douglas w/Francine

Shane could not get much going in this match. Shamrock had a lot to do with that. Ken tried to beat Shane with Shane's finisher, a belly to belly suplex but Shane kicked out. It was not long after that when Shamrock applied his own finisher, an Ankle Lock. Shane, possible realizing what a bad place he was in, quickly tapped out.

Winner: Ken Shamrock by submission (2 stars)

As the show ends we see Ken having his arm raised while Shane sits in a corner glaring and shouting things at Shamrock all while Francine tends to him tenderly.

January Week 1, Year 2



WWF Raw


Raw comes on the air and Gorilla Monsoon and a hungover looking Bobby Heenan are in the booth.


Gorilla Monsoon: Welcome to Raw as we start a new year.

Bobby Heenan: Shh not so loud Gorilla.

Gorilla Monsoon: What's wrong Heenan, do a bit too much partying?

Bobby Heenan: Something like that. Just speak softly, say what you have to and let's get to the ring for the wrestling so we can dim the lights in here.

Gorilla Monsoon: We have a good night of action including an Intercontinental Championship title match in our main event. Let's give the Brain a break and go to the ring for our opening match. A match between former tag team partners in Greg Valentine facing Brutus Beefcake.


Greg "The Hammer" Valentine w/Jimmy Hart vs Brutus Beefcake

Beefcake was looking for some payback against his former tag partner Valentine. It was just not to be. Valentine made short work of Beefcake and made him submit to his Figure Four Leglock.

Winner: Greg Valentine by submission (1 star)


A limo pulls up in back. We see Virgil get out and open the back door for the "Million Dollar Man". Ted walks out with a big smile on his face and the IC title on his waist. They walk off into the arena.


A promo for the next PPV coming at the end of the month. It is time for the Royal Rumble. Who will enter the Rumble and win bragging rights not to mention a big fat check?


Mark Henry vs Rowdy Roddy Piper

Mark Henry is stepping out on his own. He has been trying to find his footing in his career and this match might just have been that. Piper is a legend and Henry overpowered him on his way to a win. Henry hit his World's Strongest Slam and Piper kicked out. A couple minutes later Henry hit it a second time and Piper avoided the pin with a leg on the ropes. Henry got mad and lifted Piper and hit his finisher a third time in the middle of the ring.

Winner: Mark Henry via pinfall (1 star)


A video looking at the recent history of nWa and then their interactions with Bret Hart. Then it is announced the main event of the Royal Rumble PPV will be Bret Hart defending the WWF World Heavyweight Championship against the leader of the nWa, Buddy Rogers.


America's Most Wanted vs The Outlaws

"TN Cowboy" James Storm and "Cowboy" Bob Orton Jr started for their teams. They locked up and they both struggled for control. Orton got it first. He worked Storm over and made a pin attempt. Orton then tagged Blackjack Mulligan in. Mulligan applied his finisher and that brought "Wildcat" Chirs Harris in to free Storm by slamming a forearm into the back of Mulligan's head. As the referee went to put Harris back in his team's corner The Outlaws double teamed Storm.

James rode out the storm, pardon the pun, and made a defensive tag to Harris who came in like a house on fire, or a wildcat, and put Orton on the defensive. After a bit Harris tagged Storm back in and Storm did damage thanks to his Eye of the Storm a pair of time. Another tag and Harris kept his team's advantage. Then he tagged Storm, and they performed this devastating tag finisher, Death Sentence. Storm pinned Orton for the impressive comeback win.

Winner: AMW by pinfall (3 stars)


In a few weeks the WWF will crown their first ever Light Heavyweight Champion. There will be an eight man gauntlet match. Two men will be picked at random to start the match. When one loses he will be replaced with another. This will continue until only one man is left. He will be the Light Heavyweight Champion. Who are these eight men? Let's look at them. As each name is mentioned a short video is shown with some of their highlights.

Bobby Heenan: I am not doing good if anyone cares. Bad enough I have a killer headache but then I get another headache named JR.

Gorilla Monsoon: Behave Heenan. Sorry about that JR.

Jim Ross: It is fine Gorilla. I for one am looking forward to our main event. It should be an amazing match.

Gorilla Monsoon: So true. Let's go to the ring for it.


"Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase w/Virgil vs "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka w/Capt. Lou Albano in an Intercontinental Championship title match

A good match that saw Snuka get on a roll early. He tried for a fast win by hitting his finisher, but DiBiase kicked out. From there the match set into a pattern. Snuka dominated for a couple minutes, DiBiase would fight back for a bit only for Snuka to regain control. It took time but Snuka wore the champ down. Snuka dropped a knee onto DiBiase and then covered him for the win. We have a new IC champion.

Winner: "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka via pinfall to win the title (3 stars)




WCW Nitro


Nitro comes on the air, and we see The James Gang arriving with the powerful woman that helped them out last week. Then the camera goes to the announcer's desk where Tony and Larry are sitting.


Tony Schiavone: Welcome to Nitro. As we saw in our opening The James Gang are here with that mysterious woman who we recently found out is named Chyna.

Larry Zbyszko: More like the Great Wall of China, Tony. She is an intimidating figure. Not someone I would want to tangle with I'll tell you what.

Tony Schiavone: Me neither Larry, me neither. We have some hot wrestling action inline for our viewers tonight. In our main event the Midnight Express will face The Fantastics in a #1 Contender match to earn a shot at the WCW World Tag Team Champions, the Road Warriors. But first in our opening bout Tiger Mask defends the WCW Cruiserweight Championship against Lio Rush. That match is now.


Tiger Mask vs Lio Rush in a WCW Cruiserweight Championship title match

This was a fun high-flying match between two great cruiserweights. Tiger Mask set the pace most of the match. Lio Rush had short runs but not enough to get the victory. Tiger Mask finished Lio off with a series of rolling senton splashes.

Winner: Tiger Mask via pinfall to retain (4 stars)

Sweet 'n' Sour International ran down after the match and got in the ring to attack Tiger Mask. Lio Rush slowly got to his feet and looked like he might try and help Tiger Mask. He looked toward the fans who were encouraging him to do just that. Lio looked back at the beatdown and quickly turned his back and hopped out of the ring. Fans booed the faction for attacking Tiger Mask and Lio Rush for not helping him.


Mike Graham vs Disco Inferno

Graham out wrestled Disco. It did not lead to a quick win as Disco kept fighting. Once Mike got Disco in his Figure Four Leglock finisher the match was over.

Winner: Mike Graham by submission (3 stars)


A promo for the upcoming Crocket Cup. The first four teams were announced on the last Nitro. It is time to see the rest of the 16 team field. Well 15 of the 16. The 16th team did not want to be announced. They get to be a surprise, but they come in as the 16th seed. Here is the list and their seeding.

Tony Schiavone: The Crocket Cup will be an exciting event and it goes down this weekend. Saturday will have eight opening matches. Then on Sunday it will be the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals to crown the winner of The Crocket Cup. Just look at that beautiful trophey.


The camera pans over a tall trophy on a table near the announcer's desk.


Disco Inferno is in the locker room, removing tape from his wrists, when Zicky Dice walks in. Zicky is smiling ear to ear and hoping around like he was full of happy energy.

Disco Inferno: Well look who finally decided to show up. I could have used you out there tonight. You were the one that decided we should be a team.

Zicky Dice: Blah, that does not matter now. A mere lost is nothing. I have GREAT news. I did it. I talked Jim Crocket into letting me do it. He saw the wisdom and agreed. Well, ok, I had to badger him for a few hours, but he caved and said, "Fine, you can do it. Now, get the hell out of my office".

Disco Inferno: Do what?

Zicky Dice: (Stares at Disco and his smile somehow gets even bigger) On the next Nitro I will be defending my title. (He opens his jacket and slaps the faceplate on the sad looking title belt around his waist) I will be defending the Western States Wrestling North West United States Heavyweight Championship North Dakota Version.

Then Zicky Dice walks off leaving a shocked Disco Inferno.

Disco Inferno: Wait. What. That is a legit title?


AJ Styles vs Manny Fernandez

Manny started hot and AJ was off his game tonight. Manny took the fight to his opponent and never lowered the pressure. He tried early pin attempts and while they did not get the win they did sap AJ's strength. So, when Manny hit a Flying Burrito he was able to make the pin.

Winner: Manny Fernandez via pinfall (1 star)


A video showing Ivan Koloff yelling at his nephew Nikita Koloff who is pumping iron. Then the shot changes to Nikita running down a road as Ivan drives behind him in a beat up truck, yelling out the window. Then the shot changes again and Ivan is tossing a medicine ball into Nikita's stomach. It seems Ivan is getting Nikita ready for his first match in WCW.


Midnight Express w/James E Cornette vs The Fantastics in a #1 Contender match

Early on it looked like The Fantastics might pull off the upset. But Cornette has trained his men better than that. The Express fought back and started to double team Tommy Rogers. They hit a drop toehold & elbow double team move and Bobby Eaton made the pin. The Midnight Express earn their title shot. It is possible these teams will meet again in the Crocket Cup.

Winner: Midnight Express by pinfall to earn a title shot (3 stars)




ECW Chaos


Joey Styles: This is E C W and you are watching Chaos.


Cut to opening video showing some hard hitting moves and violence from past matches. Then live to the ring where the unlikely due of Al Snow and Val Venis are waiting their opponents, The Pitbulls.


The Pitbulls w/Stevie Richards vs Al Snow and Val Venis

Before the match started Al Snow put Head on the top of the turnbuckle in his team's corner. During the match Val kept staring at it. He would turn his attention to the ring for a short bit and then quickly his head snapped back to the mannaquin head on the turnbuckle. Inside the ring The Pitbulls dominated Al and never let him get anything going. A Super Bomb led to the W for The Pitbulls.

Winner: The Pitbulls by pinfall (1 star)


Joey Styles: That was a dominating performance by The Pitbulls. But of course Al Snow pretty much took them on by himself. Val Venis seemed too distracted by Head. (In a soft voice) we have all been there before. (Back to normal voice) Our main event will seem familiar too our viewers as it was the main event last week. Shane Douglas demanded a rematch with Ken Shamrock. Things are heating up between these two.


B.J. Whitmer w/Kevin Sullivan vs Tommy Dreamer

Tommy was on fire from the opening bell. He used a tombstone piledriver to soften B.J. up and then hit a Death Valley Driver finisher. When B.J. kicked out Tommy hit it again. This brought Kevin Sullivan up onto the apron and he yelled at the referee getting his attention. Tommy got up and came over. He grabbed Kevin and threatened to hit him when B.J. crawled up behind Tommy and hit a low blow. B.J. got on a roll but could not finish Tommy off. B.J. flung Tommy into the corner and ran in with an attempted spear. Tommy moved out of the way and B.J. ran his shoulder into the ring post. Tommy rolled him up and the referee made the count.

Winner: Tommy Dreamer via pinfall (2 stars)


A video showing the history between The Sheik and Super Crazy in ECW. Much of it involving fireballs. Then we hear Joey Styles say that these two will be getting in the ring again soon and heaven help us all.


Shane Douglas w/Francine vs Ken Shamrock

Shamrock was fired up for this rematch. He tried to end the match fast with an Ankle Lock. It was too early in the match and Shane fought out of the hold. Ken controlled most of the action over the next couple minutes then Ken hit a flying hip attack that caught Shane off guard. Ken pinned Shane for the win.

Shortly after the bell the song "Roughneck" starts to play and a large man in a suit comes out from back.

Joey Styles: That is Mr. Hughes. What is he doing in ECW?

Mr. Huges marches down to the ring and gets in. The referee tries to get him to exit but before anyone knows what is going on Mr. Hughes attacks Ken Shamrock. He is using his size and power to beat her down. Shane Douglas stands up and stares at Mr. Hughes. The two glare at each other for a couple moments then Shane gets a big smile on his face and he fist bumps with Mr. Hughes. As Chaos is ending Shane Douglas stands tall over Ken Shamrock with Mr. Hughes standing behind him.






PWI News and Notes:

After LAX losing the NWA:TNA Tag Team titles to the Briscoe Brothers of ECW, who then gave them up, the titles have been declared vacant. NWA:TNA will be holding a tournament to crown new champions.


Detroit Demolition has been released by ECW. He is not alone in being unemployed.

The WWF has released the following wrestlers: "The Genius" Lanny Poffo, Bobo Brazil, Hillbilly Jim, George "The Animal" Steele, The Mountie, Nikolai Volkoff and Hacksaw Jim Duggan.

Meanwhile the WCW have released Boris Zhukov, Fit Finaly, Alofa, Samu and RJ City.

PWI Annual Awards:



Male Wrestler of the Year: Bryan Danielson (WCW)

Beat Buddy Rogers for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship and held it half the year. He was also the leader of the Four Horsemen.


Female Wrestler of the Year: Cheerleader Melissa (XXWW)

She was XXWW's first World Champion and defended it with honor.


Male Tag Team of the Year: LOD/Road Warriors (WWF/WCW)

Won world title in WWF, WCW and again in WCW right before the end of the year. They are a tough team to beat. Not to mention just plain tough.


Female Tag Team of the Year: Regeneration Xx (Allison Danger and Leva Bates) (XXWW)

They beat a really good team in Solo Darling and Marti Belle to win the World Tag Team titles. They also beat former champs The Canadian NINJAS while defending those titles. They still have them around their waists as we enter the new year.


Rookie of the Year: Ken Shamrock (ECW)

Ken made the transition from mixed martial arts to professional wrestling look easy. After only a few matches in ECW he won the ECW World Heavyweight Championship. From Shane Douglas no less. He has since lost it but the World's Most Dangerous Man will likely get a shot at the title sooner rather than later. Either way, he has a bright future in the sport of wrestling. Assuming he does not go back to MMA.


Match of the Year: Buddy Rogers vs Bryan Danielson for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship at the Super Brawl PPV (WCW)

Two of the best in the business went at it at the PPV. The match could have gone either way. Bryan ended up winning the match and title which he held for half of the year. Buddy meanwhile moved on to the WWF after his loss.


Feud of the Year: AJ Styles vs Four Horsemen (WCW)

AJ Styles battled his former faction teammates after being thrown out of the group. The reason he was thrown out? He won a title shot at the World Champion who at the time was Horsemen leader Bryan Danileson. AJ got revenge on all the other members including beating Bryan in a submission match. By the way, AJ still has a World title shot coming his way. When will he try and cash in on it this year?


Most Improved: Moose (WCW)

He really turned a corner when he joined up with the Four Horsemen. That led to him winning the US title. It looks like he might be holding that belt for quite some time.


Manager of the Year: Ric Flair (WCW)

One of the greatest wrestlers of all time is slowly becoming one of the best. He managed the faction he used to run as the man. He has seen the Horsemen own the WCW World Heavyweight, World Tag Team and United States championships this year. Hard to top that.




OMG moment of the Year: Buddy Rogers turning on Randy Savage and being revealed as the leader of the nWa (WWF)

Everyone thought Rogers really was everyone's buddy. He proved them wrong when he stabbed Randy Savage in the back and revealed himself as the man in charge of the invading faction. He has his sights set on the WWF World Heavyweight Championship. If he gets his hands on it that could spell doom for the WWF.


Male Wrestler to Watch this Coming Year: Big Van Vader (WCW)

He is on top of the mountain in WCW. In fact, he is the mountain in WCW. It will be hard for anyone to take the World title off of his wide waist.


Female Wrestler to Watch this Coming Year: Deonna Purrazzo (XXWW)

She came into XXWW with Jordynne Grace with a lot of fanfare for both. They had a match and Deonna came out on top, earning her a Artemis Challenge medallion. If she can cash that in for the Golden Arrow she might end up with the World title in the coming year.

Crockett Cup Night 1



Tony Schiavone: Welcome to Night 1 of the Crockett Cup. It is our two-night special event tag team tournament to crown the best tag team in wrestling and award them with the Crockett Cup.

Larry Zbyszko: It will be something special Tony for sure. The best of the best are here and only one will finish the tournament as the winner and bragging rights not to mention that nice shiny Crockett Cup Trophy.

Tony Schiavone: Our opening match will be between The Kingdom who will be led to the ring by their manager Maria Kanellis and the team of the Young Bucks. The Young Bucks are part of a faction in NJPW known as the Bullet Club. They are one of two teams representing the Bullet Club as we will see the official Bullet Club team later tonight.

Larry Zbyszko: That Maria can lead me anywhere she wants. She is a most beautiful woman, Tony.

Tony Schiavone: Calm yourself down Living Legend.


The Kingdom (8) w/Maria Kanellis vs Young Bucks (9) in an opening round match

A good match that saw the athleticism of Young Bucks keep them in the match. But the experience of The Kingdom was too much. They started to work Nick Jackson over and Michael Bennett his a piledriver on the apron and it looked like the match was over. But Matt ran in and broke the cover. That led to a wild brawl between all four men. The Kingdom sent Matt crashing to the floor then Bennett hit a piledriver in the middle of the ring and made the pin. Nick looked to be in horrible shape afterwards.

Winner: The Kingdom via pinfall to advance to Night 2 (2 stars)


Tony Schiavone: The Kingdom will move on to the quarterfinals tomorrow night.

Larry Zbyszko: In our next match we will see the team you mentioned earlier, the Bullet Club. They take on a team they are familiar with in the Forever Hooligans.


Bullet Club (7) vs Forever Hooligans (10) in an opening round match

These teams have had some battles over in Japan in NJPW and it carried over to this match. It was an exciting affair that had the fans cheering almost non-stop. Bullet Club jumped Forever Hooligans at the bell. They threw Rocky Romero out to the floor and Karl Anderson started the match in control with Alex Koslov. Anderson threw Alex to the floor and went to beat on him some more. But Rocky jumped him and helped Alex take control before rolling Anderson back in the ring. Things only got hotter from there.

Forever Hooligans hit their tag finisher on both members of Bullet Club to no avail. The match spent almost as much time out of the ring as in it. A pattern emerged where the man in control would toss his opponent out to the floor and go out after him only to end up in a fight that the other man won. The floor was a momentum changer for sure. One time Rocky threw Anderson out of the ring and waited for the BC member to get in the ring. But then he made the mistake of tossing Anderson out again and going out after him. Anderson gained control.

All four men kicked out of pin attempts. Both members of BC had to make defensive tags. Sadly, the match did not end in the middle of the ring. Instead, Karl Anderson and Rocky Romero were brawling on the floor and Anderson used his Bullet Club t-shirt to choke Romero. The referee tried to get him to release the hold but when he did not after several seconds the referee called for the bell.

Winner: Forever Hooligans by disqualification to advance to Night 2 (4 stars)


Tony Schiavone: Wow, to say these two teams do not like each other would be an understatement. Anderson cost his team the chance to move on to the quarterfinals.

Larry Zbyszko: You know what Tony; something tells me the Bullet Club does not care. They would rather inflict pain on Alex and Rocky then win a tournament.

Tony Schiavone: Maybe Larry. Maybe. Our next match has a team from down under, Australia, in the form of the Fabulous Kangaroos. They will take on a new team in WCW, The Russians, consisting of Ivan Koloff and his nephew, Nikita.

Larry Zbyszko: They are new to WCW but not a new team per say. They have been wrestling together around the world, especially in Russia, for a while now and they are a dark horse to win the Cup.


The Russians (6) vs Fabulous Kangaroos (11) w/ "Wild" Red Berry in an opening round match

The Russians showed the world how dominating they can be. Ivan was dominating Al Costello. He then tagged his nephew, Nikita in. Nikita was like a force of nature. After one unsuccessful pin attempt he tagged Ivan in. Ivan placed Al on his shoulders and Nikita hit an Elevated Russian Sickle. Ivan went for the pin that should have ended the match. But the Kangaroos manager "Wild" Red Berry got on the apron and started to come thru the ropes to distract the referee. Nikita ran over and yanked Berry onto the floor. Nikita laid him out with a Russian Sickle. That brought Roy Heffernan over. As Nikita and Roy exchanged wild punches on the floor, inside the ring Ivan hit a Top Rope Knee Drop on Al. He then made the cover to win the match and move on in the tournament.

Winner: The Russians via pinfall to advance to Night 2 (1 star)


Larry Zbyszko: See Tony, I told you. The Russians will be a tough team to beat.

Tony Schiavone: You might just be right Larry. Now, our next match is between the Gilbert Boys and the team of reDRagon. The Gilberts are a couple rough and tough men but reDRagon are a very skilled team. A good clash of styles.


Gilbert Boys (5) vs reDRagon (12) in an opening round match

Another one-sided affair as reDRagon took control of Doug Gilbert and demolished him. First Kyle O'Reilly got rolling. He tried to submit Doug with a guillotine choke. He followed up with Ax and Smash. A tag to Bobby Fish led to their tag finisher, Chasing The Dragon. As Fish made the cover Eddie tried to get in and made the save but Kyle cut him off. Fish pinned Doug to help his team move on to Night 2.

Winner: reDRagon by pinfall to advance to Night 2 (1 star)


Tony Schiavone: Tough break for the boys from WCW. But it is time to move on. We have the Fantastics vs EYFBO up next. EYFBO stands for Entertain Your Flippin Butts Off.

Larry Zbyszko: Wait a second Tony. That is not what I heard it stood for. I think it stand for Entertain your...

Tony Schiavone: Let me stop you right there Larry. Remember, we are a family friendly show. I know what it stands for elsewhere but what I said is what it stands for on here.

Larry Zbyszko: Fair enough.


The Fantastics (4) vs EYFBO (13) in an opening round match

This match was a classic between an established team and an up and comer. Both teams known for their speed and agility. They went back and forth for several minutes. It looked like The Fantastics had picked up the W after a Rocket Launcher, but Santana came in and broke up the cover. A couple minutes later Bobby Fulton rocked Santana with a dropkick and Bobby pinned him.

Winner: The Fantastics via pinfall to advance to Night 2 (3 stars)


Larry Zbyszko: Now that was an entertaining match. I was however able to hang on to my butt. What's next Tony?

Tony Schiavone: We have The James Gang along with their manager Chyna taking on a team from Nevade, Reno Scum.

Larry Zbyszko: Yea I saw those guys earlier and Scum is a good name for them. But is this Chyna a manager or just a valet?

Tony Schiavone: I am saying manager but if you want to call her a valet that is fine, but I just dare you to go say it to her face.

Larry Zbyszko: Ah, nah, I'm good right here. You need me to help you keep the show moving along.


The James Gang (3) w/Chyna vs Reno Scum (14) in an opening round match

Reno Scum did not look ready for this match. B.G. James and Adam Thornstowe kicked things off and right away B.G. tagged Kip and they hit a double team Hot Shot. Kip wore Adam down a bit before tagging B.G. back in. B.G. did not waste much time before hitting a Pump Handle Slam and pinning Adam. The James Gang seemed to be trying to send a message to the rest of the field that they wanted to win the Cup.

Winner: The James Gang by pinfall to advance to Night 2 (1 star)


Tony Schiavone: The James Gang moves on. Now it is one of two matches with a team with the same manager. James E Cornette is managing the Powers of Pain in the next match and after that he will manage the Midnight Express.

Larry Zbyszko: What happens if his two teams end up having to face each other.

Tony Schiavone: Not sure Larry but something tells me Cornette will be happy as he would be guaranteed a winner. The Powers of Pain will first have to get past the team from CHIKARA, Dark Breed.

Larry Zbyszko: That will not be a problem for them Tony.


Powers of Pain (2) w/James E Cornette vs Dark Breed (15) in an opening round match

The James Gang were not the only team trying to send a message. The Powers of Pain double teamed Hallowicked as the match began. The Barbarian delivered a backbreaker not onto his knee but Warlord's knee. Then Warlord tagged The Barbarian and they hit a Power Plex. The Barbarian back in the ring hit a power slam and went for the cover. When the referee got to two The Barbarian picked Hallowicked's shoulders up off the mat. The ref warned him about it. Then it was a big boot to Hallowicked's face. Another pin attempt and another lifting of Hallowicked's shoulders. The referee got more stern with his warning. Cornette told The Barbarian to finish the match. A diving head butt did just that.

Winner: Powers of Pain via pinfall to advance to Night 2 (1 star)


Larry Zbyszko: What did I tell you Tony? Total domination. It is time for the final match of the night if I am not mistaken.

Tony Schiavone: You are not wrong Larry. Be it your prediction on our last match or announcing it is time for our final match. Cornette is staying out as his next team, the Midnight Express, come out and wait the mystery team that will be their opponents.


As the Midnight Express stand in the ring a familiar rocking entrance music is heard. Bobby and Stan both have surprised expressions on their faces as old nemesis of theirs not seen in WCW for a while make their way out to the screams of fans, especially the females. Rock 'n' Roll Express has returned!!!

Midnight Express (1) w/James E Cornette vs Rock 'n' Roll Express (16) in an opening round match

The initial shock for the Midnight Express wore off as soon as the bell rang. Bobby Eaton put Ricky Morton in a headlock and slugged him in the face a pair of times out of view of the referee. Then he tagged Stan Lane and they double teamed Ricky. Stan used an enzguri to get a pin attempt and a two count. Stan tried it again, but this time Robert Gibson ran in and broke the count. Some vicious karate kicks from Stan then he tagged Bobby. They hit a double team flapjack and Bobby pinned Ricky for the three count.

Winner: Midnight Express by pinfall to advance to Night 2 (1 star)


Larry Zbyszko: The R 'n' R boys tried to use the element of surprise to get one over on the Midnight Express, but it did not work. James E had his boys prepared for anything.

Tony Schiavone: Correct once again Larry. The Express, Midnight version, moves on while the Express, Rock 'n' Roll version, ponder their missed opportunity. Well, that is it for tonight. Eight teams move on to the quarterfinals tomorrow night. As we leave you for the night let's look at a graphic showing the matchups for tomorrow. Crockett Cup Night 2



Tony Schiavone: Welcome to the 2nd night of the Crockett Cup. The arena here is packed to the rafters as fans are eagerly waiting to see which tag team wins the Crockett Cup.

Larry Zbyszko: I am the Living Legend Larry Zbyszko as it seems Tony forgot I was here.

Tony Schiavone: I did not forget Larry. I was about to get to you.

Larry Zbyszko: Sure, sure. Anyways, our opening match should be a real barn burner as Dusty Rhodes would like to say. The Midnight Express takes on The Kingdom. A side note on the Express and their manager. We talked last night about what would happen if Cornette's two teams would face each other. We missed, and by we I mean you as that is your job Tony, that his two teams would only face each other in the finals. So, if that would happen it would mean Cornette would have the Crocket Cup either way.

Tony Schiavone: Thanks for pointing that out, Larry. Let's go to the ring for that opening match.


Midnight Express (1) w/James E Cornette vs The Kingdom (8) w/ Maria Kanellis in a quarterfinal match

As the match began Maria got on the apron and flirted with Bobby Eaton to distract him. That allowed Matt Taven to get the jump on him. A bit later Matt tagged Michael Bennett and they hit a double team superkick. Bennett went for the pin but Bobby kicked out. Some offense from Bennett then he tagged Matt back in. Not long after Matt made a tag and The Kingdom performed Hail Mary. That brought James E Cornette up to the apron to distract the referee. It worked because as the referee came over to tell him to get down the crowd counted to six before Bobby seemed to stir.

The Kingdom kept working on a sluggish Eaton. A Box Office Smash from Bennett led to a two count. A couple minutes later Matt went for the win with Climax, but Stan Lane ran in broke the count. The Kingdom were not going to be denied, however. Not long after Matt hit a piledriver and when James tried to distract the referee again, he got the taste slapped out of him by Maria. The ref counted to three and we had a big upset.

Winner: The Kingdom via pinfall to advance to the semifinals (2 stars)


Tony Schiavone: Talk about your shockers. The Midnight Express are out of the tournament while The Kingdom moves on. Cornette is livid. He is not happy with his team at all.

Larry Zbyszko: Nor should he be. They are part of the legendary Four Horsemen and have the mind of James E Cornette at their disposal. They should have cruised thru this tournament. Things are not looking good for the WCW teams, Tony.

Tony Schiavone: Next up should be a match in contrast of styles to our opening match. While the first match was about skill and agility this one is a bit more about toughness as The James Gang faces The Russians.

Larry Zbyszko: This match will at least see one WCW team make it to the semifinals.


The James Gang (3) w/Chyna vs The Russians (6) in a quarterfinal match

B.G. James and Ivan Koloff kicked off the match. The locked up and thanks to a single leg takedown Ivan took the early control of the match. The two went back and forth. Ivan tossed B.G. out to the floor and went out after him. The two men were throwing haymakers then Chyna came over and put Ivan in a full nelson. The referee was about to disqualify The James Gang but B.G. begged him off and told Chyna to let Ivan go. She did right away, and Ivan look horrified to have been in a position like that by a female.

Back in the ring Ivan tagged Nikita in and he tried to hold the advantage but soon B.G. was back in control and he tagged Kip in. Kip had Nikita in trouble so the big Russian forced Kip back into The Russians corner to make the defensive tag. The two battled for the upper hand. Kip tossed Ivan into the corner and rocked him with a splash. Then Kip hit his Famouser finisher.

Winner: The James Gang by pinfall to advance to the semifinals (3 stars)


Larry Zbyszko: That was a really good match. Tough break for The Russians but The James Gang is moving on.

Tony Schiavone: Our next match has the second team managed by James E Cornette and now his only hope of winning the Cup. It will be his Powers of Pain taking on Forever Hooligans.


Cornette was berating his men all the way down the ramp and even slapped them on the back with his tennis racket. He was in a foul mood over the Midnight Express losing and he did not want the Powers of Pain to have the same outcome.

Powers of Pain (2) w/James E Cornette vs Forever Holligans (10) in a quarterfinal match

The match started with both men trying to weaken the other with stiff kicks of different types. Alex tried an early pin, with a handful of tights, and almost got it but The Barbarian kicked out at 2 and a half. After that The Barbarian started brutalizing his smaller opponent but then Alex started to use his speed and agility to put the larger man on the defensive. Forever Holligans had things going their way until Rocky Romero hit a springboard DDT on The Barbarian. It stunned The Barbarian, but it also sent him spilling into the Powers of Pain corner where The Barbarian was able to make a much-needed tag.

Warlord and Rocky did battle and Rocky flung Warlord thru the ropes. Rocky went out after him. The Barbarian started to come into the ring but the referee came over to stop him. Thus he did not see Warlord grab Cornette's tennis raquet and smash Rocky with it. Back in the ring the Powers of Pain double teamed Rocky and finally hit an Elevated Clothesline on him. As Warlord made the cover The Barbarian stopped Alex from attempting a save.

Winner: Powers of Pain via pinfall to advance to the semifinals (2 stars)


Tony Schiavone: WCW has another team in the semifinals. That is two of three and in our last quarterfinal match they will try and make it three of four as The Fantastics square off with reDRagon. This should be an exciting, fast paced match.


The Fantastics (4) vs reDRagon (12) in a quarterfinal match

Kyle O'Reilly started strong against Bobby Fulton. Bobby Fish came in kept the heat on. Bobby was forced to dive toward his partner looking for a tag. He just made it by his fingertips. Tommy Rogers came in and did not have any better luck. He survived a few pin attempts including after O'Reilly performed Armageddon, twice. The end came when reDRagon performed Chasing The Dragon and O'Reilly pinned Tommy Rogers.

Winner: reDRagon by pinfall to advance to the semifinals (3 stars)


Tony Schiavone: Well, our two semifinal matches are set as we are down to our final four. Just like the final four in March often are we have one matchup of two higher seeded teams and the other matchup between a couple lower seeded teams that pulled off upsets to get to this point.

Larry Zbyszko: Not only that Tony, but one semifinal match pits a couple WCW teams meaning one will make it into the finals. The other pits a couple teams in The Kingdom and reDRagon who are NOT in WCW and one of them will make it to the finals. These other teams have impressed me I have to say.

Tony Schiavone: Well Larry, the teams that have been in the tournament that are not signed to WCW are trying to make a name for themselves and are using the Crockett Cup for just that purpose. A side note, the teams of The Kingdom and reDRagon have faced each other a pair of times in ROH with each team having a victory over the other making their semifinal match a rubber match of sorts. Let's go to the ring for our first semifinal match.


Powers of Pain (2) w/James E Cornette vs The James Gang (3) w/Chyna in a semifinal match

Before the match started B.G. and Kip were trying to decide who would start for their team. They each pointed toward the other as neither man seemed to want to do it. Then Kip pointed toward Chyna and B.G. looked surprised. But Chyna started to walk up the ring stairs as she did not seem scared of the big men across the ring. B.G. and Kip both held up their hands and told her to stop. B.G. decided he would start for his team.

The match was a real slugfest as both teams fought hard to get the win. Frequent tags, double teaming and wild fighting on the floor. Each team tried a pin attempt to no success. Kip James and The Barbarian found themselves on the floor again and were going at it tooth and nail. When Cornette tried sneaking up on Kip with his tennis racket Kip turned around and grabbed it. Then he swung it on The Barbarians head smashing it so it ended up around his neck like a collar. The referee called for the bell.

Winner: Powers of Pain via disqualification to advance to the finals (3 stars)


Larry Zbyszko: What a horrible way for The James Gang run to come to an end. The referee should have given some more leeway considering what was all on the line here.

Tony Schiavone: More leeway Larry? Kip did hit The Barbarian with a tennis racket and left it hanging from his neck.

Larry Zbyszko: Eh, The Barbarian is a big boy. He can take that. Anyways, let's see who the Powers of Pain will be beating in the finals as it is time for our last semifinal match.


The Kingdom (8) w/Maria Kanellis vs reDRagon (12) in a semifinal match

This match might have been the best of the tournament so far. Momentum swung back and forth from one team to the other like it was a tennis match. Just when it seems like one team would get on a roll and have a chance for the win the other team would make a comeback. Double teaming was frequent and a defensive tag kept things moving along on an even keel. After several minutes reDRagon began to wear Matt Taven down. Bennett made one save but it was not enough. Kyle O'Reilly hit Armageddon on Taven and finally got the win to move on.

Winner: reDRagon by pinfall to advance to the finals (4 stars)


Tony Schiavone: What an incredible match we all just witnessed. That match really could have gone either way as each team had their chances but reDRagon pulled it out in the end.

Larry Zbyszko: This reDRagon team have been really impressive. I think their luck is about to run out as they will be going up against the monsters known as Powers of Pain. Pure power backed by the mischiveous mind of James E Cornette. This match will surely be a clash of styles, Tony.


Powers of Pain (2) w/James E Cornette vs reDRagon (12) in the finals match

The Powers of Pain jumped on Kyle O'Reilly from the get-go. They kept him close so his speed was not a factor, and they could use their power to put the hurt on him. They hit an Elevated Clothesline early on. Too early as it would be because he was able to kick out. Kyle was in trouble big time and Bobby Fish could only watch from his team's corner. Kyle knew what was on the line, so he refused to be pinned. Things turned when The Barbarian tried to take the fight out of the ring. Kyle was able to toss him into the barricade then in an impressive showing of agility ran along the barricade and hit a clothesline that sent The Barbarian spilling over the barricade and into the front row. Kyle got into the ring and tagged in Bobby Fish finally. Bobby waited for The Barbarian to crawl into the ring and then jumped on him. In a surprising, and questionable, move Bobby tagged Kyle. They hit their tag finisher, Chasing The Dragon, and it seems Warlord and Cornette were surprised as well as neither tried a save which was costly. Kyle was able to keep The Barbarian's shoulders down for the three. Thus, reDRagon won the match and the Crocket Cup.

Winner: reDRagon via pinfall to win the Crockett Cup (3 stars)
