This is the Triathlon Survivor! A spectacular three-day event with a very unique format. Each match is actually three matches in one, with a six-man, tag team, and singles match. The team that wins this best-of-three advances to the next round of the tournament.
The opening match pits two teams from the USWA that have had a long standing feud. Curt Hennig just recently dropped the U.S. title while the Valiants are still the U.S. tag team champions.
The teams are familiar with each other and the match went back and forth with Hennig using the Perfect Plex on Muraco and Jimmy Valiant applying the sleeper on Race. Albano's men took over with Muraco working over Larry Hennig and putting him away with the Hawaiian Hammer.
That gave Albano's Army the first fall and setup Race and Curt Hennig against the Valiants Brothers.
Curt Hennig took control of Jimmy Valiant and after a perfect plex was able to grab the pin on Valiant after coming off the ropes.
Race and Johnny Valiant squared off to decide which team would advance. Race immediately went to work and won the match with his patented piledriver. Race and the Hennigs move to the quarterfinals tomorrow.
Larry Sharpe's team has been spending time for the WWC in Puerto Rico, while Sherri's team is taking care of business in the USWA. The Monster Factory all took turns going to work on Rude. After the Bodies spent some time in the ring, Rude returned and was able to pin Page with the Rude Awakening.
The tag team match put the Heavenly Bodies against the One Man Gang and King Kong Bundy.
Lane and Prichard tried and tried to do something against the Gang but just couldn't take him down. Bundy came in and crushed Lane with the Avalanche to even the match at one fall apiece.
Singles match between the Gang and Prichard left to decide which team wins. It didn't look good for Prichard but he had Sherri Martel at ringside. The Gang missed his splash once, but still pounded away and landed the move later. Sherri saved her man and then handed him a foreign object to knock the Gang out and steal the win.
Dr. Death and DiBiase were fired up for the tournament with their new tag team partner Terry Gordy. This one matched up teams from ICW, although Kowalski has been working recently in both WWF and USWA.
The first fall had tons of action and near falls. Kowalski applied his Claw and then the Mountie used the Shock Stick on DiBiase for the pin.
That put Doc and Gordy against the Mountie and Mosca.
The two looked real good together. Gordy piledrove Mosca and a pair of Oklahoma Stampedes put him away.
Gordy and Kowalski tore into each other to try and win the match for their team. They went in and out of the ring but Gordy won with the Oriental Spike.
World champion Mil Mascaras teamed up with two men he has already defended the title against. Oliver Humperdink's team is currently competing in Puerto Rico and looking to make some noise.
The Superfly was worked over by all three opponents. Bobo Brazil took the first fall after a head butt on Bepo.
That left Mascaras and Snuka against Geeto and Von Goering.
Von Goering couldn't get out of the ring and a piledriver by Snuka finished him off.
Mascaras wasted no time ending this match by pinning Geeto.
The fans were in total awe of the world tag team champions Hawk and Animal teaming up with Andre the Giant! This was the Giant's first appearance anywhere and this team has to be the favorite to win it all. On the other side of the ring is the WWC Universal champion Antonino Rocca, Pepper Gomez and Ilio DiPaolo. All three are good singles and tag wrestlers which is needed in a tournament like this.
Hawk and Animal started it out with both men tagging in and out before bringing in the Giant! Andre is indeed awesome as he battered DiPaolo with three straight body slams. The first fall was intense and went quite awhile before Andre splashed Gomez.
Remaining in the ring were the Road Warriors against the former U.S. tag team champions Rocca and DiPaolo.
Rocca proved his worth as Universal champion by beating Hawk with the Argentinian Backbreaker.
DiPaolo gave Animal a whole lot more fight than he expected. Both men were in a lot of trouble but Animal won by countout so his team advances.
The Russians added Boris Zhukov to their team for this one and he took the place of George Hackenschmidt. They are the current World Six-Man tag team champions. The Japanese legends were all over Zhukov. Inoki knocked him out with any tags to his partners with an enzuigiri.
That left Ivan Koloff and Nikolai Volkoff against Baba and Rikidozan.
Nikita Breznikov's men just didn't have it on this night. Rikidozan downed Koloff with his massive chops.
Volkoff and Baba went toe to toe as the Russian didn't care his team had already lost the match. Baba couldn't get the three and Volkoff took the win with a bear hug.
This one has been a heated feud between former Heenan Family members and the new team the Brain has assembled. The Outlaws so far have been able to hold the Intercontinental tag team titles.
The first fall took a long time with all six battling it out. Mad Dog Vachon got the pin on the Road Dogg with a piledriver.
Ray Stevens and Butcher Vachon were left to take on Bockwinkel and Billy Gunn.
The Crippler got his measure of revenge against the former parter Bockwinkel by beating him with the Bomb's Away.
The winners were already decided but the Road Dogg was able to beat Butcher Vachon in the final fall.
This one put two great teams from ECW in the ring. Newcomer RVD joins forces with Sabu and the Sheik, along with manager Bill Alfonso, against Larry Sweeney's men. Hero is the ECW champion while Albright and Pearce are the tag team champions.
Sabu beat Hero with the Triple Jump Moonsault.
The ECW tag champs then took on the Sheik and RVD.
The Sheik beat Albright with the Camel Clutch.
The final fall went to RVD with the Five Star Frog Splash.
