I got a copy of those cards when Tom was doing something back in the day. I don't remember the exacts but yeah they were a little weaker than the originals but always neat to see. Probably also why I liked getting the preliminary stats for cards as well.

Thanks Chad, I love this kind of info. Does anyone know if other sets had similar changes, or even just individual cards (not counting SE cards)? I don't believe anything else was ever changed in future sets, except for the Gladiators in 2090. When their cards came out, Tom decided soon after he made them too "weak". He made some minor changes to the cards and distributed them free to anyone who requested them. If you didn't get the Club Galactica Super Report at the time, you wouldn't have known about it. The newer stats became the ones in the set. I don't know if he sent them out to non-Club people with WarGames 2091. For the first few conventions, he had stacks of them to give away. There may be people who never got the better versions of the 2090 cards, although they're the same stats as the Snelly artwork SE cards, IIRC. I'm sure someone is going to ask what the original stats looked like. I'll go through my archives and find out. I think that original Brute had that - 3 (ag) and that killed him on level 1 offense. It changed to a (pw) on that Cleansing 2095 SE card

Thanks Chad, I love this kind of info. Does anyone know if other sets had similar changes, or even just individual cards (not counting SE cards)? Overkill made his debut as a 1994 GCon giveaway before his official release later that year, and some changes were made in-between (the GCon card is a touch weaker--his Ropes was a "C", can't remember what else changed--he may have had a 7(4) Pin). Brute and Massacre also got changed after the printing process for Invasion 2090 (again, to toughen them up a bit). I don't know if the originals ever saw official release but they were included in the Collector's Pack in the mid-'90s (a big pack of flyers, articles, and other rarities).

And as we saw a few months ago, it appears that in 2091 Man-Mountain was supposed to get an update as Ymir the Giant, with 4 comebacks on L2D and the first -5 Power Rating. Noted only because that got as far as the card-back getting printed, as opposed to just existing on Tom's handwritten template. That seems like a later change than usual, at least by then.
Then there was the alternate Scourge artwork that appeared on the 2092 flyer--again, pretty late in the game for a change. This one looked more like the Galactic Punisher, not the pirate-looking Scourge of the official card, or the other pirate-looking Scourge from one of the Bash sets.

I thought there was something done with Overkill too. I recall Tom giving away those original cards at a GCON too. Thank you Pete! The original 2090 Gladiator cards were released officially before being replaced.

Actually have the original Scourge artwork via one of the GalactiCon auctions. May be my only purchase from the auctions. I'd forgotten about Overkill. I remember someone at G-Con remarking that his "lateral press-1" is actually a pinning move. Think that made it to the final version without edit.

I drew Overkill in the big GCON tournament and promptly lost to Anaxis. This sparked both an immediate Overkill update and the women’s conversation chart. Both because I lost a match at GCON lol

Anaxis must have clubbed Overkill with her giant bowl.

Anaxis must have clubbed Overkill with her giant bowl. IIRC it was a squash. I lost an ag check (I think it was on L2O1) then quickly afterwards got hit that +3 finisher of hers and it was over almost immediately.

I loved the Scourge we got in the 2092 flyer and was super disappointed when he didn’t arrive as planned in the set, I think we eventually got him in green print on one of those Birthday Bash sets but i could be imagining that. Pirate Scourge was cool too. Could have been worse.
