Shane Douglas w/Francine & Masked SuperstarReferee: Morgan Dollar Morgan Dollar sends Francine to the back before the bell and the fans love it but the reaction is not a positive from ringside and Head is also ejected. The fans were engaged from the outset as Jim and Snow battled with everything they had. Douglas and Superstar pulled every trick they knew to get the upper and Douglas really drew some solid heat when he grabbed a chair and smashed Snow across the back with the weapon about mid through this lengthy opening contest. Jim was able to get the hot tag and took the fight to both Superstar and Douglas for a stretch but Snow was unable to keep the momentum going. Valiant Brothers (“Handsome” Jimmy Valiant & “Luscious” Johnny Valiant) and Captain Lou AlbanoReferee: Joey Marella This was a wild encounter from start to finish. The Valiant Brothers looked very impressive early with their quick tags cutting off Hawk from this corner for several minutes. The Warriors were finally able to get out of trouble and took control with their power. Ellering earned some cheers with his NECKBREAKER to Handsome Jimmy for a near fall. Albano saw very limited action in the ring mainly when Hawk and Animal were at a disadvantage. The end came after Johnny Valiant was cut off from his corner and the Warriors combined for a DOOMSDAY DEVICE and the pin save was blocked. The SpoilerReferee: James Beard Spoiler looked anything but a top contender early on with Dalton controlling the action and picking up a near fall after a roll through and then a second one after his finisher. Spoiler came back however using his size to and skill to take over. Dalton made the ropes to escape the BIONIC CLAW and then did just enough to keep Spoiler from getting the win before he came back with a second ATOMIC DROP but could only get a two count. It was back and forth heading into the finish and Spoiler gets the submission with a BIONIC CLAW. Winner: The Spoiler **** Henry Irslinger v. Rock RiddleReferee: Dick Woehrle – Vintage Charts! However, they were never able to get the powerhouse into a position to go for the win before Barbarian tagged into the action late and quickly overpowered Costa. The battle went to the floor and Barbarian put Costa on his shoulder and rammed him into the post shoulder first. Costa could not recover and was counted-out of the ring. Winners: Powers of Pain by count-out. ** Gordon Solie has some questions for Powers of Pain and Fuji but the team is not happy with explaining their struggles in the ring tonight. Card 25 – Maple Leaf Wrestling –Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto, Ontario (2021.10.10)
Henry Irslinger v. Rick Riddle Referee: Morgan Dollar / Vintage Charts Dollar has strict instructions for both competitors before the bell. This was a classic with Rock Riddle showing some impressive mat skills including several figure four leg locks and figure four sleepers to slow down the attack of his opponent. The match went to the floor once providing Dr. Mike Lano with the opportunity to get a close up shot of the action. Back in the ring, Irslinger made a huge comeback late using a ARMLOCK AND LEG TRIP for a near fall. Irslinger continued the attack and scored the win with back to back FLYING HEADLOCKS. Winner: Henry Irslinger *** ½ Chris Candido v. “Lightening” Rod Fenton Referee: Morgan Dollar Candido attacks Fenton on the outside of the ring before Gary Michael Cappetta is even done the introductions. Candido takes the battle into the ring and Dollar calls for the bell. Two BLOND BOMBS later and this one is over. Winner: Chris Candido DUD
Sandman v. Koko B. Ware Referee: James Beard Sandman gained the early advantage and struck with a SINGAPORE CANE that had the fans out of their seats in outrage. Beard lets is go and counts to two instead of making a disqualification. Ware realizes he is in a fight and makes a great comeback with the fans cheering every move. He cannot get Sandman in a position to go for the finishing blow however and soon Sandman is back in control. Ware kicks out after a WHITE RUSSIAN LEG SWEEP but a second SINGAPORE CANE ends it much to the displeasure of those at ringside. Winner: Sandman ** ½ Shane Douglas w/Francine v. Al Snow w/Head Referee: Morgan Dollar Dollar has strict instructions for the competitors before the bell. Despite the warning of the referee, this was one of the wildest encounters of the year that was topped off with Douglas getting blinded on the floor when Dr. Mike Lano’s flashbulb malfunctions. In the chaos the followed, Snow scored a near fall and Head interfered in the match but Snow still could not get the win. Douglas somehow came back but the advantage was short lived. He sent Snow hard into the corner and charged in but Snow moved away sending Douglas crashing into the buckles. Snow quickly rolled up his opponent for the three count. Winner: Al Snow *** ½
Powers of Pain (Barbarian & Warlord) w/Mr. Fuji v. 2 Cold Scorpio & Marcus Alexander Bagwell Referee: Dick Woehrle This was a classic battle of power against skill and both sides had their moments in control. The action was back and forth with each tag keeping the fans on edge until Barbarian tagged in on defense and crushed Bagwell with a power slam that shook the ring and earned him the pin out of nowhere. Winners: Powers of Pain. * ½
Bill Apter conducts a special Hot Seat interview with Hillbilly Jim but the interview is interrupted by The Spoiler who attacks Jim from behind. Jim fires back and we have a brawl. Officials come out to break things up lead by Commissioner Teddy Long who orders the two to the ring for a match right now!
Hillbilly Jim v. The Spoiler Referee: Morgan Dollar Things do not start well as Jim lands a punch and then executes a cartwheel but Spoiler catches him with a dropkick counter that is off the charts. Jim is realing but after he is sent into the corner he bounces out with a clothesline that downs his masked opponent. Jim then traps Spoiler in a BEAR HUG and Dollar calls for the bell (snake eyes). Winner: Hillbilly Jim *.
Fritz Von Goering v. Vampiro Referee: James Beard Von Goering is rocked early with a series of kicks but manages to weather the storm and slow the pace and take the action to the mat with a takedown. A series of knee drops to the throat had the fans outraged and Vampiro in trouble. Von Goering takes a chance and comes off the top with a forearm to the top of the skull. It pays off, as a BACKBREAKER follows for the win. Winner: Fritz Von Goering. *
Masked Superstar v. Val Venis Referee: Morgan Dollar This was a back and forth battle until both men collided together after each rebounded off the ropes with a clothesline attempt. Superstar was able to regain his feet first and took out Venis with a SWINGING NECKBREAKER. It was not enough to get the three count but it did allow him to apply his CORBA HOLD for the submission. Winner: Masked Superstar * ½
Tully Blanchard w/J.J. Dillon v. Magnum T.A. Referee: Dick Woerhle The violent history between these two competitors boiled to the surface once again in the Gardens. The counters were flawless for the first half of the action with both men struggling to maintain any sustained offensive attack. Blanchard broke through the stalemate first after Dr. Mike Lano captured some of the ringside action up close. Allen kicked out after a SLINGSHOT SUPLEX. Things began to get nasty when Blanchard rammed Allen face first into the ring post busting him open. Allen returned to the favour minutes later and both men were a bloody mess. It was a wild finish as fatigue set in. Dillon distracted Woerhle saving Blanchard from a scorpion death lock. Allan kept control and then hit his BELLY TO BELLY SUPLEX. Dillon quickly entered the ring but Allan took him out with a clothesline and then flattened Blanchard with a running forearm for the win. Winner: Magnum T.A. *****
Canadian Open Tag Team Title Match – Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal) (ch) w/Paul Ellering v. Valiant Brothers (“Handsome” Jimmy Valiant & “Luscious” Johnny Valiant) w/Captain Lou Albano Referee: James Beard This match was a classic. Johnny Valiant jumped Anima before the bell but the Warriors recovered and used their power to dominate the early action particularly against “Luscious” Johnny. A pin save from Jimmy Valiant kept the action going after a POWER SLAM from Animal. The Valiant came back however with a focused attack on Hawk leading to a SUPER ELBOW but a wild brawl followed when Anima jumped into the action and in the chaos Animal managed to land an elbow to Johnny Valiant and Hawk scored a huge near fall. The Warriors continued to press the attack and a DOOMSDAY DEVICE to Jimmy Valiant looked to finish things off but Albano was able to distract James Beard and the action continued. Things took a violent turn when Hawk posted Jimmy Valiant busting him wide open. Valiant managed to the reverse a whip on the floor sending Hawk into the post busting him open. It was bloody mayhem from that point until the Valiant Brother connected with a SUPER ELBOW to Hawk. Animal jumped in again taking out but Valiant Brothers and placing a dazed Hawk onto Johnny Valiant for the three count. Winners: Road Warriors. *****
Canadian Title Match – Harley Race (ch) v. Barry Windham Referee: Dick Woerhle Windham started out strong and had the fans behind him but Race took control of the floor bouncing his challengers head off the ringside table. Race went to work and was methodical in his attack. Windham survived several pin attempts including back to back to back VERTICAL SUPLEXES and then kicked out after the following backbreaker. Windham finally found an opening wrapping on a sleeper out of desperation. It was enough to change the momentum and soon Windham was landing uppercuts, slams and dropkicks. A pair of suplexes had Race in trouble and Windham went to the top of the corner but Race tossed his challenger to the mat and then planted Windham with a PILEDRIVER to retain the title. Winner: Harley Race ****
