Why would you not go to nineteen weeks? NFL does some dumb things some times as far as scheduling goes ...
Why should they do this? Not only do you give players and teams two weeks of rest but you push the Super Bowl back an additional week. Guess what that will do? It pushes the Super Bowl to the SUNDAY before Presidents’ Day ... giving most people the day off after the big game and allowing people to stay up and enjoy the super bowl more.
Do I have to do everything around here lol.

They'll figure that out eventually though I suspect at some point they'll want 18, 19 and even 20 games.

I’m interested to see if and how this affects the roster sizes, the draft (extra rounds) and the back up QB position etc etc

I know there are other major sporting events that weekend, but honestly they should take a back seat to the most important American sport's biggest game. I do also think a 2nd bye week would be a good thing.

I'm still trying to figure out the math on how the SB is being pushed back one week when they add 1 game and subtract 1 game. <scratches head>

They are eliminating one preseason game but keeping the start of the season the same date. So preseason is still august with just one less official preseason game. That game is now moved to sometime during the season. Conferences will apparently rotate so even years one conference has an extra home game and then next season the other conference does.

They should have just moved the start of the season back a week. Pushing the SB around V-Day and Daytona is a weak move. I know some have mentioned President's Day but that only helps out some people. Maybe kids if schools are off that day. The rest of us still have to work. But of course all the NFL cares about is more $ so good for them.
On the plus side maybe this means Yahoo Fantasy Football goes to a three week playoff format.

They want the NFL Season to start the weekend after Labor Day, which I think is a good idea. I think President's Day would help out most people. I haven't been at a job where I didn't have off president's Day.

Well I have only worked retail (shorter day maybe but sales) and hospitality (no days off) so maybe more people get Presidents Day off than I realized.

I work in hotel and travel analytics and President's Day weekend is the busiest vacation time all winter (besides Christmas/New years week obviously). Besides schools, banks and government which have the day off due to it being a federal holiday, I think most all office jobs give off the day. The only Federal holiday that most people dont get off now is Columbus Day in October.
