1) George Hackenschmidt was victorious in the opener over an injured Mikey Whipwreck. Give Whipwreck credit for keeping this match, after being strangled by Evan Lewis on TV the day before. He tried his hardest but even at 100%, he would have had a difficult time with “The Russian Lion.” Hackenschmidt drove him into the mat with a single leg pickup and slam and made a cover to score the three-count in about three minutes. DUD
2) “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka defeated The Sandman (1) via disqualification. The Fijian warrior had the early advantage and frustrated the brawler. Sandman rolled outside for a breather. As Francine went to consult her charge, Snuka followed him out. Sandman slugged it out with Snuka, then went over to a beer vendor in the crowd. He grabbed a glass bottle of Copper State beer (brewed locally in Green Bay). He smashed the bottle over the “Superfly’s” head! Adam Kennedy saw this from in the ring and called for the bell after eight minutes. Francine paid for the beer, as she and Sandman headed to the back. Snuka was hurting but came up from the floor outraged at what the Sandman had done to him! ½*
3) The Long Riders picked up an impressive win over Baron Von Raschke (2) & Johnny Saint (1) in eight minutes. The Irwins worked well together against the popular European duo. “Wild” Bill worked over “The Clawmaster” and then tagged Scott “Hog.” The Irwins lifted Von Raschke up to the top rope and then executed a double team version of Scott’s superplex! Scott made the cover, as Bill held back the British technician, and scored the pinfall! **¾
4) “The Ragin’ Bull” Manny Fernandez (2) picked up an impressive pinfall on Mad Dog Vachon (1)! These two battled it out for about eight minutes. Vachon went for the piledriver but Fernandez blocked it, swept Vachon’s legs, and got him in a jackknife cradle to score the pinfall! The Ashwaubenon/Green Bay fans went wild for Fernandez’ win! ***
5) Al Snow (3) battled Butcher Vachon (4) to a 20-minute draw. This was a competitive match, as Snow was irate by his and Great Lakes champion Dan Severn’s loss via disqualification to the Vachons on TV the day before. These two battled back-and-forth. About 12 minutes into the match, Mad Dog Vachon, coming off his loss in the previous match, came down to ringside. Snow hit the Snowplow (a Northern Lights Bomb) and went for a cover but Mad Dog put his brother’s foot on the ropes. Brent Fillmore missed Mad Dog’s involvement but saw the foot on the ropes and called for a break. This interference brought out the Great Lakes Heavyweight champion, who attacked Mad Dog with forearms. Several WWWA officials came out to ringside to separate these two and restore order. Back in the ring, the match continued with both men fighting for a win. As time ticked away, Snow was in control but couldn’t put down the Algerian. He hit a series of head butts, which finally knocked Butcher down, and went for a cover but the bell rang before a three-count could be achieved. You can bet these two will tangle again in a GLCW ring! ***¼
6) Frank Gotch scored a big win over Evan “Strangler” Lewis (4) via countout after 14 minutes in a 30-minute time-limit bout! Lewis managed to make the ropes once on the Gotch toehold and started to mount a comeback. He had Gotch up against the ropes and went for a charge but Gotch sidestepped the charge and Lewis went sailing over the ropes and hit the Brown County Arena floor. Billy J. put the count on him and his count hit 10. While Gotch was satisfied to be the victor, you can bet that he would have preferred a win inside the ring. ***½
7) Jim Brunzell and Jerry Lynn retained the Great Lakes Tag Team titles by going 30 minutes with The Rock ‘n Roll Express (Ricky Morton [6] & Robert Gibson [2]). All four men shook hands before the bout, as the respect for each other continues between these two teams. Unlike their first two meetings, all four wrestlers were very active in tonight’s match. Brunzell and Lynn are gelling more and more with each match together. They scored several near falls on both Ricky and Robert. Ricky was even lacerated at one point after Brunzell’s famous dropkick. Brunzell and Adam Kennedy both gave Morton the chance to end the match but he kept fighting on, knowing what was at stake. The fans had been split in their support but due to Morton’s heart, started favoring the Rock ‘n Rolls. As the time limit came closer to the end, the champs tried all they could to get the win. Lynn put Morton up on the top rope and hit a huracanrana. Morton avoided a pin attempt and the bell rang, making the match a draw. The champs seemed disappointed at not getting a decisive win over the challengers. But the respect remained, as all four men shook hands again after the bout! ***¾
8) In the main event, Dan “The Beast” Severn (3) retained the Great Lakes Heavyweight championship over “Cowboy” Bob Orton, Jr. (3) This was a somewhat fast-paced match. Orton hit the superplex, even with his bad arm, a few minutes into the bout but Severn kicked out. Severn rallied back and got Orton down on the mat in a waki gatame armbar, on Orton’s good arm. The “Cowboy” managed to pull himself to the ropes and get the cast arm over the bottom rope for a break. Orton took over, sneaking in a shot with the cast, while Brent Fillmore couldn’t see it. He had the champion in trouble and looked as if he could take home the gold. He attempted a suplex but Severn blocked it and turned it into a fireman’s carry slam. He then immediately transitioned into a guillotine choke in the center of the ring. Orton was trapped and forced to tap out after eight minutes! The Ashwaubenon fans gave “The Beast” a big pop for his win, as Al Snow came down to ringside to congratulate his training partner! ***¼
