SOUTH COAST CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING 5/8/2021
Card #2 –Civic Center – Laurel, MS
Welcome to South Coast Championship Wrestling! Join us now for the fast-paced competition of professional wrestling featuring the top grapplers from the nation’s largest governing body, the World Wide Wrestling Alliance. We are back in Laurel with a great lineup and also more information on the upcoming WWWA World Title tournament. It should be a great evening so let’s get to the action…
Steve Williams b George South
Doctor Death used a lot of high impact offense and dispatched South with the Oklahoma Stampede. After the match, it was announced that Williams would be the second SCCW representative in the upcoming WWWA World Title tournament, joining the Destroyer.
Magnificent Muraco b Brad Armstrong
Outstanding match and just a great gutty performance by Armstrong, who really got beaten up for the first 7-8 minutes. Every time it looked like Muraco might be setting up his reverse piledriver, Brad was able to counter. To his credit, Muraco also did a great job avoiding and/or blocking Brad’s Russian Leg Sweep. Armstrong came close with the sleeper a couple times, but Muraco was able to get to the ropes. An assist from manager Lou Albano gave Muraco the split second edge he needed to use the Hawaiian Hammer for the win.
Pampero Firpo b Jerry Brisco
Firpo tried a pre-match attack but Brisco, knowing Firpo’s wild nature, was ready and fought him off. Jerry was holding his own and using his technical skills to keep the Wild Bull of the Pampas off balance. Finally, Firpo got on the attack and was able to lock in El Garfio to get the pin. After victorious growl of “Oooohh Yeeaahhh!” the mad man from Argentina left the ring, not even waiting for the referee to raise his hand.
Flying Redheads b Quebecers
Outstanding back and forth contest, with a lot of great double-team offense by both duos. Quebecers fought back after struggling early. But Red took over on Rougeau in the late stages of the contest and pinned him with the Atomic Drop.
Bob Roop b Bob Armstrong
Very solid match. Fast paced with both wrestlers hitting big moves and doing damage. At one point Roop decided to brawl with Bullet Bob, which didn’t work out too well for him. Armstrong looked like he was on his way to another victory, but Roop was able to get a reversal and hit the Shoulder Breaker for the second time in the contest. That was good enough for the win as Bob kicked out just after the three count.
SCCW CHAMPIONSHIP: HARLEY RACE b Brian Blair
It was a battle of the current SCCW Champion and the man he defeated for the title. Race got the early advantage, but it was Blair who got the first near fall with a hooking clothesline. The action went back and forth until Race hit a Piledriver. Race made an arrogant cover and Blair just got a shoulder before the three count. The crowd was fully behind Blair, but he got momentarily distracted by J.J. Dillon which allowed Race to plant him with a second Piledriver to get the win. While Race was holding the SCCW title belt aloft and parading around the ring, Ted DiBiase came to ringside. He and the champ had some words, but Race waved him off like he was an annoying mosquito on a humid day. Someday soon DiBiase will get his chance.
Rough night for the Armstrongs, but we all know how resilient that family is. Big win for the Redheads, although you get the feeling that feud is far from over. Although the crowd wasn’t happy with Harley Race’s win in the main event, they were all cheering Ted DiBiase’s continued pursuit of a title opportunity. Alexandria, LA is next on the tour, and here’s what the fans there can look forward to:
* Brian Blair won’t have a lot of time to recover from tonight’s loss as he’ll team with “Cowboy” Scott Casey to face Larry Hennig and the self-proclaimed “Leader of Men” J.J. Dillon!
* The latest wrestler to accept the Destroyer’s $10,000 Figure Four Challenge may finally be the one to break the masked man’s bank! That’s because, well, who knows more about the Figure Four Leglock than Jerry Brisco? A master of the hold himself, Jerry will attempt to break the Destroyer’s allegedly unbreakable hold as a prelude to their match in Alexandria.
* Your big main event will see former two-time SCCW Champion Bob Armstrong take on the man he lost and regained the title from – the Magnificent Muraco! The Magnificent One will undoubtedly have Captain Lou Albano in his corner, so it could be a long night for Bullet Bob.
All this and much more next time in Alexandria!
