Having read the results this morning, I am eagerly awaiting a full report from
Vegas!!
OK, here is a recap from my first PWG show in 23 months:
I rode down with my friend Alex (who works for PWG) and Chris and two other guys. Chris did the driving as he has a big van and he did a good job getting us there and back today. As we were passing Baker, Alex got a call from Super Dragon asking if we could pick up a wrestler whose flight got rerouted to Las Vegas but we were unable to go get him since we were already an hour into California. Alex would not tell us at that time which wrestler would have been riding with us to Los Angeles if he got that call an hour earlier as the show was Mystery Vortex and the lineup was completely unannounced in advance but he told us after the show ended that the wrestler was Trey Miguel.
After we got to Los Angeles (my first time in LA since September 2019,) Alex went inside the Globe Theater to work and I talked to some friends outside for awhile and then went to the bar next door to talk to some other friends (many of these friends I have not seen in almost 2 years) until it was time for doors at which point I joined some friends in the front of the line for general admission.
Once inside the Globe Theater, my friend Alex saved me a seat in my usual location which is the 2nd-floor balcony (a very difficult place to get a seat unless you know somebody at PWG) which I really enjoy as I get to look down on the ring and I don't have to worry about taller people blocking my view. Sitting near me was Rob Vyper and I got to talk to him about his episodes of Spitting Venom that he does on Highspots with some of the lucha wrestlers he has helped bring to PWG.
Here is a quick listing of the results from tonight's show (again none of the wrestlers were announced in advance as this was a Mystery Vortex show:)
After Excalibur made his usual introductions, Tony Deppen defeated Jack Cartwheel (aka Jack Cartwright in CWFH.) This was Cartwheel's PWG debut.
Brody King defeated JD Drake.
Demonic Flamita defeated Arez. This match was Arez's PWG debut.
Jonathan Gresham defeated Lee Moriarty. This match was Moriarty's PWG debut and it was the best match of the First Half of the show. I did not know Moriarty would be there but I thought it was possible as I always thought he would be someone who would fit well in PWG.
Intermission, I got my Lee Moriarty card autographed.
Aramis and Rey Horus defeated Trey Miguel and Myron Reed. This match was Reed's PWG debut and I think this was the match of the night IMO.
In a matchup straight out of AEW (Rick Knox was even the referee,) Orange Cassidy defeated Evil Uno.
PWG World Champion Bandido defeated Black Taurus in a really good main event. After the match ended, Demonic Flamita attacked Bandido and Taurus joined Demonic Flamita in the attack until the lights went out and when the lights returned Super Dragon for the first time in years was in the ring. Super Drgaon joined Demonic Flamita and Taurus in attacking Bandido. Brody King came out to try to save Bandido but was brought down by Super Dragon's side. And then the lights went out again and when they went back on AEW's Malakai Black (who used to wrestle in PWG as Tommy End) was in the ring to make the save for Bandido. It sounds like the next show in September will have a 6 man tag main event of Bandido, Malakai Black, and Brody King vs Super Dragon, Demonic Flamita, and Black Taurus.
After the show ended, I talked to Bandido and I bought his new shirt which is the PWG logo with the gorilla wearing a Bandido mask. I then helped my friend Alex stack the chairs so we could leave and make the drive back to Las Vegas.
Today was a great day. It was fun to be back at PWG and in Los Angeles for the first time in 2 years. I return to Los Angeles next weekend to attend GCW.
