Great Trip down memory lane hearing from Mike. I actually had to rewind a couple of times so I could let Lori hear a couple of the stories where she was mentioned (she cringed again at remembering attending the matches in Pittsburgh). Like Mike said & more than a few have said here; GalactiCon really is more than just a chance to get together to roll the bones with fellow Promoters. It is play Euchre with Great Friends, going to see a movie & having a "Krakan" moment where three of us laughed so hard we are absolutely sure the rest of the movie-goers were wondering what the hell was going on in that section of the theater, to a "hot wings" eating adventure that get's brought up once a year on a certain Promoter's birthday (well...at least I bring it up), to picking up the tab for food & drinks (and COTG Sets), to shared rides, to seeing Jamestown Joe's residence, seeing the looks on waiters and waitresses faces when the dice and cards make an appearance, to a first (of many) Yuengling, a comedy show that had us rolling (& Tom a little concerned for Leslie during one of the songs...LIKELY VERY CONCERNED) (& hey I think there is a song about "Havoc" that we are all still waiting on, aren't we?) to going to see wrestling action...seriously, this list can go on and on...comic book stores, trips to the lake, sharing a hotel room (more than once), nights at the matches! (and the news casters comments on a "Wrestling Convention at the Sheldon House" & the looking on her face while she commented that she hoped there wasn't "any damage to the historic mansion"!) For me there are also memories associated with attending with my best friend the first year I attended, to memories with my sons on the road-trips we made to & from GalactiCon, then making the road-trip to GalactiCon a "full" family affair (yep...all of the Beck's have been to at least one!) when my daughter made the road-trip with me, to really missing out on not being there when I was stationed WAY FAR AWAY or Duty requirements kept me from being able to get there, to making more than one "triumphant return" after missing a year (or two), to having Julius (the cat, Lori's fur-baby & my Buddy) make an appearance, and Most importantly to Making Friends and getting the chance to see them! Did I say this was a great episode? (And really looking forward to next week's episode and the specials guest!!!) This is why I am excited about the event being in Chicago next year. DK II, your post about playing euchre got my heart racing. Here in Wisconsin not too many people play, which bums me out - as that is a game I grew up playing and made money on playing in Indiana after graduating from college. Chicago would have so many awesome things to do - I mean just the idea of grabbing Deep Dish and possibly taking in a minor league or major league game would be fantastic. Not to mention actually going to the storefront location of ProWrestlingTees would be an awesome adventure! I am already psyched about this, and it is 13 months away, I'm hoping the crew at FG comes through with a Chicago GC next year so I can do both - T&T HoF weekend, and GC in Chicago!

Mike, if you can make it down and need a place to throw your air mattress down you can definitely stay with Matthew and I. We are staying at the hotel directly across the street from the Con site.

Just a great episode. Mike's stories really show why this community is so amazing and why these Galacticon memories are so important to share. On the previous week's episode, Rob struck a note with me when he said that some of his other hobbies / pursuits have passed away but not FG and his passion and connection for it. (Sorry, Rob, I've probably butchered the much more eloquent way you put it). Mike's experiences and his streak at Galacticon made that even clearer. On a lighter note, I totally enjoyed the Dice story and am amazed that didn't happen at almost every single GCon with all the shenanigans I've heard about.

I really related to Mike talking about thinking of his COTG angles while at work. Even in the years I didn't play, I always thought about the game. It definitely sticks with you!

Great interview, very conversational and very informative of all those past G-Cons thanks Mike for the stories and sharing what G-Con was to you.
Is it possible to be nostalgic for something that wasn't on my radar in the early days?

Is it possible to be nostalgic for something that wasn't on my radar in the early days? I totally think so. I think about what I missed even during my initial first run with the game that lasted like a decade in real time. What I missed then. Now I think about what I am missing by being virtual this year versus being in person.

When I was younger I used to book all my weekend shows while mowing the lawn. By the time I was done, I would have 2 or 3 shows ready to play out.
