Hey, I thought a TON of Bendis' art was underrated. Just saying. I liked the Metalhead and 1st Maxine, although she didn't have any pupils!!!! I hated some of his little ticks...overuse of black/shadow...no eyes...and the exaggerated curly body hair on EVERY GUY EVER...but then, one of my FAVORITE Bendis pictures combined ALL of those (Sin) and was awesome. I wasn't a huge fan of a bunch of Hannibal King's stuff...but I think Darryl Banks has rocked on toast in most everything I have seen. Heck, I even criticized Werner's Early Classics art, but I think he has been astounding since then.

Yes! That is good news, as not only do I have LOTF 2 coming, but a few other things that I have been looking forward to. (well, nothing as much as the LOTF 2 set, as they already have spots to be slotted into) And what could be more important than LOTF2 Jason? lol No, the LOTF2 is the most important of the order b/c I am using them in up coming CCW angles and such.

CPB - Your art is awesome, and you know it. That said, there's nothing wrong with someone liking or not liking certain pieces of LOTF 2 art. I love it all, but wish Black looked more like him. I think Jacobs looks a lot like him, and the art is brutal. I'm happy with it all.

I just wanted to voice something about "Criticism"... Often enough when a person says something sucks it's merely a subjective opinion...You'll never hear an art critic say "That art sucks"...You are instead going to hear a (possibly long) list of comparisons and reasons as to why it's not as good as it could be, or where it excels compared to similar work by the artist or in the genre... This is why CPB brought up Fine Arts. He'll tell you himself why Jim Riehl and Werner are far better at illustration than he is, but I've also seen him critique Jim's work in the past (we've known Jim a long time)...I won't get into specifics, I'll let CPB expand on it if he feels so inclined, but believe me when I say, there's a huge difference between saying: "There's too much clutter. The scenery in the background around the character is awesome, but there's so much going on that it detracts from the focus of the picture. Also, the overall look of the character is a bit too <enter artist inspiration>, you should make sure it looks like your own and not something that <enter artist> did." and saying: "This picture sucks."CPB also does sculpting and paints lots of miniatures for games and such. I've seen him look at other people's paintjobs on the same minis that he's done and he never says " That paintjob sucks"...He says "This would look good if he used shading here instead of a wash." or "The highlighting doesn't look right, it should only be on the high points of the figure. He's got it down in the recesses as well." or "He used too much drybrushing, the figure looks too dusty. Instead of drybrushing the skin he should have started with a darker basecoat and shaded up to the lighter skintone."By the way, I know very little about art so you can pretty much take these as quotes... Anyway, the point is, criticism serves no purpose if you don't offer ways to improve on it. If someone says "I've seen <insert name>'s work, he could use some improvement. How? I don't know, I just don't like it." that doesn't really help them improve at all. One final note: There's a huge difference between someone's work when they are getting paid for it, and someone's work as a hobby or as a favour..

My only gripe with it is that (imo) it doesn't look as good as some of the guys in the first LOTF did. We've seen Albright, Jacobs, Black, and Ultramantis, and in my opinion, they don't look all that great. Then again, it's the stats on the card that matter at the end of the day.

I don't know, I just don't like it." that doesn't really help them improve at all. I agree with almost everything you said here...but I do have to mention on this: Sometimes something, art, story, whatever, just doesn't set right with you and you might be wracking your brain, but you can't figure out what's wrong with it...so if I were to say, for instance, "Something about Brent Albright just looks...off...but I can't really say what it is." while I wouldn't call that helpful criticism, mind you, I also wouldn't classify it anywhere near "That picture sucks." I wouldn't call that a remotely helpful criticism, but I also wouldn't call that crapping on the artist or whoever. However, I do know that Mark Waid, who has done just about every job ever in comics, and has done so for a great many years, has told EDITORS to never use criticism like "This isn't working for me" or "there's something off, but I just can't place it" unless they have very specific ideas about how to improve the art/story/whatever, because vague comments like that, even trying to be helpful, really aren't. All that said, I wouldn't hold Joe Blow Average to the same standards of criticism as an editor, because one is just offering their opinion after the fact, and the other's job is to help improve a product before the public ever sees it.
