Is it safe to say that Bell is the poster boy warning about sitting out a year. I mean in the 3+ years since his year sitting out he has less combined yards rushing than either of his 3 best years in Pittsburgh. He is still getting paid but I really think if he could go back he would have done things differently.

It seems I posted this in a timely fashion as today the Ravens cut him. Odds are someone will probably give him a shot.

I feel being a running back in the NFL is one of the toughest positions, they take a lot of abuse and hits. Most don’t seem to get long the long term deals that some of the other players get.
At the time when he decided to sit out he was one of the few elite running backs in the NFL and felt he wanted a long term deal.
Obviously it didn’t work out as well as he hoped and he was never even close to the level of play as before, but I respect his decision to do what he thought was best for him.
Football is a brutal sport and I know several formal players that aren’t in very good health after long careers.

What you say all makes sense. It is the whole way he did it, sitting out the whole season thus giving up what he would have earned that year, that was the mistake. Like I said, if he could go back and redo it I think he might. Even if it meant sitting out half the season.
