Hi all!
I'm all in on LOW, I have every color card/set - love the game! Interested in COTG b/c of the talent aging and story-arcs built-in. That being said, it's a little overwhelming with how much is out there for COTG. I was wondering if someone could give me a timeline of where to start with COTG.
Do I start at the color sets? Do I need to go back to the beginning to be able to follow the story? Just curious if this is on a linear timeline or if there are off-shoots of the story, etc.

2125 Legends is a jumping on point. Anything prior to that is not in color and some of the older black and white stuff is no longer available on store. There is the reimagined sets that basically take the original game and give it new art and in color. Currently the years for this are 2087-2091 and 2092 coming out this year. As to understanding the story you will get booklets with every set you order that gives you the canon lore/story so no need to worry about being lost. Id say just start with 2125 legends and go from there. Currently its 2125-2137 that is in color and the cards are modernized to deal with the power creep. Hope this helps.
-edit-
Also there is the Centra and Kronos stories which is essentially other federations or territories. These cards are available all in color as well. Currently is 3 sets for Centra and promoter prime cards and a couple sets for Kronos.

As Stryker said, 2125 is a good place to start. The COTGWiki can help to a point as well. There are the early sets being colorized but that's a slow process. Kronos is a lot of fun but no aging there as far as we know so FS Centra might be an easier place to start for such things.

Do I need to go back to the beginning to be able to follow the story? Not really, but it’s still a great starting point. I’d grab the color sets 2087 - 2091. Or maybe even just 2087 to get started. Wargames 2092 is on the horizon, so you’d have everything you need to get started and get a great grip on the story. If you like it you could jump into 2125 which is a massive expansion set and might be a bit overwhelming for a first time player. My last suggestion might be something you haven’t thought of - just jump right into the current timeline. Grab 2137 and all the sets you need to play out the current year (prob another 5-6 sets or so). Nothing quite like being caught up and experiencing the excitement of all the new releases. You can always go back and build up the early history of your fed by grabbing the early games later in if you find yourself hooked like the rest of us. Good news is at the end of the day, regardless of which game year you decide to start with, you’re going to be dealing with a stack of awesome alien fighters from 100 years in the future doing battle to determine the greatest champions in the galaxy. All years 2087 - 2137 (the current year) are killer. Good luck!

Thank you to everyone who responded, I really appreciate you breaking it down. It helped a lot to be able to read what you posted and sift through all the sets available. That being said, I think I might start in 2125 and maybe grab that special for all the FTR sets. I think starting in 2137 would be great, but I can't drop $300+ right now and I'm such a stickler for having everything I need to start, I would feel "incomplete" if I tried to jump in at 2137 and not be able to buy all the sets at once.
It appears that 2125 has a starter set with 54 cards to jump off right there and then continue on. So it really seems like the best option at this point. Looking forward to adding COTG to my library of Filsinger stuff, I am sure that if I love it as much as LOW, I will be purchasing all sets from 2125 moving forward through the game.
Thanks again guys!

That might be the best way to go - however, the unfortunately by product is, you may wonder how Monolith and Aethran Overmaster got their start, or how Endgame got his start - which would require going back in time. I echo what many of my fellow promoters say, starting at 2125 is the best option, and take it slow, to savor it.

I just ordered my 2125 starter set. Was thinking of the FTR, but since they might not debut till later in the GWF sets I held off. Added priority shipping, so hoping they're here by Tuesday with Monday being a holiday I doubt they get here over the weekend.

I think I would have preferred maybe just starting at 2137 and being "fresh" to it all, but I just didn't want to invest $300+ into it to start. Plus, playing 2125 to start will allow me to build up and enjoy the "ride" and I'm sure I will eventually catch up to the present sets soon enough.
