Walter's New name is Gunther Stark
The declaration of the star’s new name comes after news emerged that WWE had filed a trademark for the name Gunther Stark for the category of entertainment services. While trademark filings are standard fair in the WWE, this particular name sparked controversy as Gunther Stark is the name of a U-Boat commander who served in World War II in the Kriegsmarine, the navy of Nazi Germany.

I've never been a fan of the name WALTER but this seems like a dumb time to change it considering that's what he was known as in NXT UK. Plus you know they'll shorten his name to either Gunther or Stark in a couple months due to WWE's single name policy.

which is ironic...cause he already had one name.
And yes, typical WWE need to own the name stuff.

The fact that WWE didn't change his name when he came in just shows how little they cared about the NXT UK brand. He wasn't worth owning until they moved him to the main NXT roster.

They probably won't even mention a reason for the name change on TV. The announcers will just start calling him Gunther Stark for no reason, but the fans will continue to chant "WALTER! WALTER! WALTER!"--unless WWE edits it to make it sound like the "NXT Universe" is really chanting "GUNTHER! GUNTHER! GUNTHER!".

Beyond stupid. Can WWE go 48 hours without doing something to piss fans off? Probably not.

Hell half the time I dont think they even know the reason lol He introduced himself as Gunther (no Stark) after winning his match with Roderick. But yeah agreeing with the thread, if an established talent needs a last name…why change his first name? A “Gunther Stark” google is now just reactions to the name change so I have no idea how well known the naval officer was buuuuuut seems sloppy for a multimillion dollar company with a multimillion dollar company’s legal and advertising team
