I wonder why we never had a Paul Ellering wresler card. I know his manager card has stats but I tought he should have a stronger card as a wrestler.

Not by much from what the LOW guys have said. He'd not have the tag move but Ellering had that brief run in Memphis and Mid South and then injuries pretty much stopped him.

I think the simple answer is: He's (wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy) more well known as the manager of the Road Warriors rather than his time as a wrestler, so most fans will use him as a manager. I can see him getting a prime card down the line

I expected to get him in the Memphis set and still don't understand why we didn't. He was managed by Jimmy Hart and won the Southern title, a major belt, from Handsome Jimmy. He headlined the Coliseum and feuded with Lawler. Not a long run but an accomplished one in a kayfabe sense. His manager wrestling stats don't do it justice.

Someone should submit it as a question to Uncharted Territory to get an answer.

Yeah, Ellering's career got cut pretty short due to injuries and then he got involved with arguably the best tag team of that era, so it makes sense to me that we got the manager version over the wrestler version. That said, I wouldn't mind a "peak" wrestler Paul Ellering at all.

That makes sense, but there simply weren't enough spots to include him. Maybe someday.

Not knocking your opinion, but I've studied Memphis history as much as anyone, went weekly from 82-95 and Paul Ellering isnt memorable there. I bet most forgot he was even there, even though he won the Southern Title. I'd been disappointed if he was released in this set knowing who has been signed and who was already in black and white. (but thats my opinion) People just don't consider him part of Memphis history (unlike those released. The only person close to not being a huge Memphis guy is Lanny, but with this ties to Randy, he makes sense). Idol, Dundee, Rich, Fabs, Moondogs, Smothers, Hart, PG13, Dutch, Koko....they're all guys people (fans in Louisville, Nashville etc) remember as Memphis guys.

I know Brickhouse was big in late 80s and 90s Memphis, but I'd definitely have gotten more use out of a "Precious" Paul card...
