Turner, an outfielder, played in seven full seasons and was part of three others in the Major Leagues from 1974–1983, mostly with the San Diego Padres (1974–1981; 1983). Turner was born on January 17, 1954, in Texarkana, Arkansas. He grew up in Los Angeles, attended Venice High School, and was selected by the Padres with their tenth pick in the 1972 Major League Baseball draft. Turner was first called to the Majors in September 1974 after he batted .326 with 18 home runs, 68 runs batted in and 154 hits for the Double-A Alexandria Aces. The following season, he had another late-season trial after batting .329 with 91 RBI for the Triple-A Hawaii Islanders. He then spent the next seven full seasons in the Majors, and was the Padres' regular left fielder in 1976 and 1979. Turner also played ten games for the Chicago White Sox in 1981 and 85 games for the Detroit Tigers in 1982. In 733 MLB games, Turner had a .257 batting average with 448 hits, 222 runs, 238 RBIs, 73 doubles, nine triples, and 45 home runs.

He earned a total of $11,848,250 during his time in the NFL, predominantly with the Chiefs, who drafted him in the fourth round in 2010 and handed him a four-year contract. It has been reported that Williams was working on a construction site in recent weeks, where he suffered the fatal accident.

Watkins’ Newport were the only team to conquer the All Blacks in their 1963 tour and the club earned the Freedom of the City of Newport on the fiftieth anniversary of the win. Watkins captained the club between 1964 and 1968 and also led the Welsh national team and the British Lions.

Gustavsson had a long career in the Swedish leagues and played briefly in the NHL with the Colorado Rockies in 1982. Gustavsson was a Swedish ice hockey player. The rest of his career, which lasted from 1977 to 1994, was mainly spent with Västra Frölunda IF in Sweden. There were several tributes from his Swedish teammates on Twitter.

You often hear of athletes dying too young due to bad habits and/or doing something illegal. Really sad to see one pass due to a work accident. RIP

She led the league in home runs during the 1953 season, ranks second on the all-time home runs list (43) behind Eleanor Callow (55) and over Dorothy Schroeder (42) and Jean Geissinger (41), and was one of only 14 players to collect 300 or more career runs batted in, yet she was never selected to the All-Star team. Briggs was inducted into the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame in 2013. Briggs entered the league in 1948 with the Fort Wayne Daisies, playing for them for six years before joining the South Bend Blue Sox in 1954. She started in right field for the Daisies during her rookie season and stayed there until the left fielder broke an ankle while sliding into second base. Then was moved to left field for the rest of her career, with the exception of two weeks at first base in the 1952 season. During her first two professional baseball seasons, Briggs hit two home runs, but increased her output to a league-leading nine in 1953. She ranked second with 25 homers in 1954, in the AAGPBL's last ever season. Briggs hit the only home run at Indiana's Playland Park during the 1949 season, a walk-off in the ninth inning, to defeat the Blue Sox. In 1951 she was voted the best defensive outfielder with a .987 fielding average. Briggs helped Fort Wayne win pennants in both 1952 and 1953, and spent her final season in 1954 with South Bend. In 1991, she received the first annual Game of Legends Award for her 38 years of contributing to women's softball in Rhode Island. On November 20, 2021, Briggs was inducted into the Rhode Island Slow Pitch Hall of Fame.

Romaniszyn was a graduate of a small college, Edinboro State, and was drafted in the 13th round of the 1973 NFL Draft. He played in the NFL as a reserve linebacker for 3 seasons, 1973-1974 Cleveland Browns and 1976 for the New England Patriots. He played in 39 games in the NFL.

Von Nieda played basketball at Ephrata High School and Penn State University. He enlisted in the army during World War II, and played with the Fort Benning, Georgia paratroopers. There he led the country, both college and service teams, in scoring with 1062 points in 44 games. After being discharged, he played for the Lancaster Red Roses in the Eastern Basketball League, where he led that league in scoring, averaging better than 24 points per game. In 1947 he began playing for the Tri-Cities BlackHawks in the National Basketball League (NBL). While with the Blackhawks, he made the All-Rookie team averaging 12 points a game. The team made it to the final round of the playoffs in both of the years he played there. In 1949, the founding year of the National Basketball Association (NBA), he was traded to the Baltimore Bullets where he completed the 1949 and 1950 NBA seasons. In Baltimore, he started every game playing both point guard and shooting guard. Whitey was known for his quickness on the court. After leaving the NBA, he coached at Elizabethtown College for two years. In 1952 he became the player/coach of the Lancaster Red Roses for four years, making it to the finals three of the four years. Von Nieda was selected to the All-EPBL Second Team in 1951. Again in 1985 he coached Lancaster in the Continental League, these teams were a stepping stone to the NBA. Once again his team made it to the finals. For many years he coached junior teams where he worked with 10- and 12-year-old kids teaching them the fundamentals of basketball.
