Seeing tonight's announcement reminds me that Golden Boy Danny Spivey was on the first wrestling show I ever attended. It was a WWF house show in February 1986 where he teamed with Corporal Kirchner against the Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff. I remember for some odd reason there were some adults that night in the crowd who had Spivey somehow actually confused with Hulk Hogan. I was in elementary school at the time, but (unlike some of the adults that night) I knew Spivey was not Hogan. Whenever I get back to LOW, I will probably team this version with Mike Rotundo and Barry Windham. Thanks for sharing that memory. It seems a bit strange that people would confuse Spivey and Hogan. Yes, they did both have long blond hair and wore yellow tights but their physiques were completely different. Reading your story brought back memories of my first live WWF show. I believe it was Monday September 7th 1992 at the Pacific Coliseum and I went with my Dad. It was the week after Summerslam and I had gone to my aunt's wedding on the Saturday prior which meant I wasn't at home to watch Superstars to find out what had happened at the PPV. Nine year old me was NOT happy with my aunt for choosing that day to get married. "Why couldn't she get married next weekend" I thought." Throughout the evening I gradually found out the Summerslam results though. Early on in the evening Davey Boy Smith came out to defend the Intercontinental Title against Rick Martel and I remember being so excited to find out that he had won the belt. In the main event The Ultimate Warrior faced Kamala and when Warrior came out without the World Title I knew that Randy Savage had retained. If I remember correctly the other matches that night were Jim Powers vs Brooklyn Brawler, Money Inc. vs The Nasty Boys and Big Boss Man vs Nailz. That was a fun night with my father and now that he's gone it remains one of my most cherished memories.

I wish I had been there myself to see that classic Bret Hart-Davey Boy match in person, not to mention hearing that epic pop from the crowd when Bulldog won!

I was at Summerslam 1992! Nice! I wish I had been there myself to see that classic Bret Hart-Davey Boy match in person, not to mention hearing that epic pop from the crowd when Bulldog won! The only story I have about that day is that I got to my seat early only to find I was miles from the ring, behind a huge Summerslam sign. I couldn't see a thing! I overheard a woman nearby complaining to a steward about the same issue so I tagged along and got reseated...about six rows from ringside. I always remember The Fink banging on about how we were not allowed to take photos or film the event so with everyone now owning phones with cameras, what do they do about it now? Ha!

Not to get too far off-topic but I will anyway. Back in 1996, Chad Olson, TDalton, our dad, and I went to the UFC in Detroit. (This was the infamous Severn-Shamrock II fight that was a 30-minute "dance.") When we got there, they confiscated my camera, as they didn't want people taking pictures. I was 15 and I was pissed! I shake my head now seeing everyone put footage of every sporting event, concert, and everything else on the Internet.

What did Dan Spivey use as a finish in the Golden Boy days?

That story reminds me of one when I went to an outdoor music festival back in 2002. I had been working as a GM at a hotel where the owner required me to live on property. With not rent or utilities to pay and getting a nice paycheck I had a lot of extra cash. So, I purchased what at the time was a top camcorder. It was the size of a paperback and used mini tapes. I go to this outdoor fest in downtown Atlanta, and they allowed cameras but not video recorders. Going thru security, I pull stuff out and the guard looked at my video camera and asked what it was. I said just a camera. He didn't know better and let me take it in lol.

When digital cameras (photo and video) started becoming more common in the 2000s, my dad and I were at the Minnesota Vikings' training camp one summer, when they used to hold it in Mankato. This guy had a camera and the security guard couldn't tell if he was taking pictures or recording video. I think the guard would have let him go but the fan called the guard a name and got ejected!
