MARCH MADNESS 2023 – LIVE FROM THE NORFOLK SCOPE IN NORFOLK, VIRGINIA
Gordon Solie and Lance Russell welcomed everyone to MARCH MADNESS and ran down a bit of the card before Kevin Sullivan made his way out to the ring. Gary Michael Cappetta announced who our combatants were going to be for our opening contest, starting with the challenger to the United States Heavyweight Title.
FOR THE UNITED STATES HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE
KEVIN SULLIVAN vs. KURT ANGLE (C)
Kevin Sullivan with a stunning albeit tainted victory over Kurt Angle in just under two minutes to win the United States Heavyweight Title. Sullivan hit a series of clotheslines on Angle after they brawled outside of the ring and Sullivan got the advantage. After the last clothesline, Sullivan put his feet on the ropes and got the three count. Angle tried to argue his case after the match but referee Morgan Dollar said he didn’t see it and he can only call what he sees.
*, Time Of The Match: 1:59, Kevin Sullivan wins the United States Heavyweight Title.
SHERRI MARTEL vs. ROCKIN’ REBEL
Sherri jump-started the match as she attacked Robin before Gary Michael Cappetta could get his introduction of Sherri out of his mouth. Cappetta ran for cover and Sherri hit a running knee lift on Robin, putting her down to the mat and then followed that up with a spinning toe hold.
This one had great action, even though it was mostly delivered by Sherri Martel. At one point, she hit a cross body over the top rope and Rockin’ Robin went down hard. Sherri could have been happy to just let her opponent get counted out but she went out and broke the count, tossed Robin back in and had some more punishment to dish out. Robin got a couple shots in but when they went back outside, it was Sherri that got the advantage back and, even though Robin was able to kick out a couple of times, it was Sherri who won the match, having bloodied Robin. Sherri came off the top rope with a splash for the win.
*1/2, Time Of The Match: 4:34.
MANNY FERNANDEZ vs. BOB BACKLUND
Prior to the match, a video package of what led up to this match was shown and then backstage announcer, Bill Apter, got a word with Bob Backlund, who said he was outraged at what Fernandez did to him last week on Legends Of Wrestling. “I’m not usually a violent man, Manny Fernandez, but what you did to me…” Before Backlund says any more, he storms off.
Backlund got the win with an underhook suplex, after having locked on the CROSSFACE CHICKEN WING but not being able to get Fernandez to submit. The time of the match was 33 seconds.
After the match, Backlund flipped out, went to the outside and grabbed a chair. The referee tried to stop Backlund, but Backlund shoved him aside and then laid waste to Fernandez with a chair shot to the head, followed by repeated chair shots to Fernandez’s body once he was on the mat. Backlund kept screaming, “Who’s yellow?!?” over and over. Referees and officials had to storm the ring and were finally able to get the extremely bent chair away from Backlund, who had to be restrained and carried bodily back to the dressing room.
*, Time Of The Match: 33 seconds.
DUSTY RHODES and BARRY WINDHAM vs. MAGNUM TA and WAHOO MCDANIEL
We got another video package of what led up to this match, going all the way back to Battle For The Belts in January.
The heels made their way to the ring. Magnum TA was very arrogant and cocky. The last time we saw him in a ring in a televised bout was against Dusty Rhodes at Wrestle War in February. The faces came down to a magnificent ovation from the fans in the Norfolk Scope.
Dusty Rhodes wanted to get his hands on Magnum TA but TA got out of the ring and stood on the apron while Wahoo McDaniel said, “You’re gonna deal with me first.”
Bell rang and we were underway with Barry Windham starting out against Wahoo.
Barry Windham defeated a bloody Wahoo McDaniel (who became this way due to the BLACKJACK CLAW that Windham had placed on him) with a hard-harding LARIAT for the win. After the match, Magnum TA berated the downed McDaniel for losing the match for the team.
**, Time Of The Match: 12:14.
ANDRE THE GIANT vs. RODDY PIPER and BOB ORTON JR.
Orton and Piper picked up the victory after Piper fought a prolonged fight that saw both Orton and Andre bloodied. Piper was able to avoid getting bloodied. This one went back and forth and, while no one would call it a classic, it was good enough for jazz. Piper locked on a SLEEPER for the win. After the match, Piper got on the microphone and declared himself to be a giant slayer.
**, Time Of The Match: 13:02.
FOR THE SOUTHERN TAG TEAM TITLE – WINNING TEAM GETS SHOT AT LOW WORLD TAG TITLE
THE ROCK ‘N ROLL EXPRESS vs. THE MIDNIGHT EXPRESS (C) w/JIM CORNETTE
This was a so-so match in that Ricky Morton fought and fought and fought but never got any real sustained offense to even be able to make a tag to Robert Gibson. Gibson came in and made two pin saves in the span of twenty seconds, the second of which he paid for for the rest of the match: Condrey tossed him out of the ring and his knee kind of buckled, forcing him to drag himself back to the RNR corner.
Condrey and Eaton, meanwhile, looked like the champions they are by making frequent tags and making the most their time in the ring. Condrey eventually got the win by count-out when he came off the apron and hit an already bloody Ricky Morton right between the eyes with a double sledgehammer to the head.
**, Time Of The Match: 6:52, The Midnight Express retain the Southern Tag Team Titles.
MAIN EVENT
FOR THE LOW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE
HARLEY RACE vs. BIG VAN VADER (C) w/BOBBY “THE BRAIN” HEENAN
Gordon Solie announced that the referee for the match would be James Beard, who the booking committee felt could best call the match. Bobby Heenan, knowing Beard’s reputation for being far more lenient in his matches, was not happy and threatened to lodge a complaint directly after this match’s conclusion. Solie told Heenan to do what he had to do. Lance Russell commiserated with Solie when Solie got back to the announce table.
The champion came out first, since he was already out at the interview stage with his manager. Big Van Vader, ever imposing, looked ready to take someone’s head off and Harley Race was going to be the main target of that vengeance, despite a few fans’ attempts at taunting the big man. Vader gave the gold to Heenan and not James Beard as Gary Michael Cappetta gave his introduction.
Then Harley Race made his way to the ring to a boisterous ovation from the Virginia crowd. Race looked focused and ready for anything and, as Cappetta introduced the challenger, Vader left the ring and attacked Race on the floor. Beard would not ring the bell until both men were in the ring. After a minute or two of fighting on the floor, Vader banged Race’s head off the apron and shoved him into the ring. Then Beard called for the bell and the match was officially started.
In one of the hardest fought matches in LOW history, Big Van Vader was busted open and beaten down but was able to defeat his challenger with a cross body block off the top rope to retain the LOW World Heavyweight Title. Harley Race had plenty of opportunities to get the win and, yes, a number of times were thwarted by Bobby Heenan being at ringside and interfering. But there comes a time when all the interference and all of the cheating going on by others doesn’t matter. And Race could not find that moment in this match to really capitalize and make the comeback or make the surge to the winning pin.
Instead, Big Van Vader found a way to get the victory and deserves to be called champion.
****1/2, Time Of The Match: 15:13, Big Van Vader retains the LOW World Heavyweight Title.

LEGENDS OF WRESTLING CARD #9 – 4-8-2023
Gordon Solie welcomed us back to another episode of LEGENDS OF WRESTLING, after having been pre-empted last week. He began to run down the card for today, but before he could get more than a sentence out, he was joined by Roddy Piper.
“Mr. Solie,” Piper said, offering his hand, which Gordon accepted grudgingly, “it is a pleasure to be here. For you, of course it is. You are being graced by the only man in professional wrestling today to hold a win over Andre The Giant. That would make me a giant killer, I guess, wouldn’t it? But I have even bigger fish to fry and I see you have your jaw on the ground. You should pick that up. Everyone should pick their jaws up off the floor because what I have to say next is going to make them all go through the basement. Mr. Solie, the reason I am out here today is because I am now, officially, the new co-host of this program!”
THE HEAVENLY BODIES COME TO COLLECT
Before Piper could continue, however, The Heavenly Bodies came out and asked for the microphone. Piper refused to give up his microphone, while Gordon decided to hear what the Bodies had to say.
Tom Prichard started to talk and Piper cut him off.
“Stop it, man,” Piper said.
“Stop what?” Prichard demaned to know.
“Stop imitating me,” Piper said. “I don’t like it.”
“It’s the way I talk,” Prichard said. “I’m not imitating you. It’s the way I talk.”
“Look, man,” Piper said, coming closer to stand right in front of Prichard. “I asked nice and I’ve been having a good day so far and you appear to have been having a good day, as well. So I’m just going to ask you one more time. Stop imitating me, okay?”
Before an altercation could take place, Stan Lane talked Prichard into taking step back and he talked for the team.
“We’re out here to get Jim Cornette to hold up his end of the bargain from the last couple of weeks. Okay, your team beat The Rock ‘N Roll Express. Big deal. Now pony up the shot at The Brisco Brothers.”
Jim Cornette came out and smiled at Piper and shook his hand.
“First of all,” Cornette said, “allow me to congratulate my good friend, Roddy, on his new gig. Finally some class will be brought to this program. As for you two yahoos, did I hear you say 'big deal' that we beat the Rock ‘N Roll Express?”
“Yeah,” Stan said, “I said it. Big deal that you beat the Rock ‘N Roll Express.”
“Are you implying something about the Rock ‘N Roll Express?” Cornette asked.
“I think they’re overrated,” Stan said.
Cornette’s eyes widened but his mouth broke into a smile, which betrayed his thoughts.
“Why don’t you say that to their faces?” Cornette said. “In fact, why don’t you try and beat them today on this show and, then, if you win, you can have a shot at The Midnight Express and we’ll put both the Southern Tag Titles and the shot at the Briscos up?”
“Deal,” Stan said.
Commercial Break
GORDON SHOWS VIDEO
Gordon showed us some of the highlights from MARCH MADNESS.
Dusty Rhodes and Barry Windham’s victory is shown and Gordon mentioned that Magnum TA and Wahoo McDaniel now seemed to have problems, as TA is shown berating McDaniel for taking the loss.
Also shown, Bob Backlund snapping and going insane on Manny Fernandez. Gordon mentioned that we will have an update on Fernandez’s health and Bob Backlund will be here to answer some questions a little later on.
Finally, we got to see Roddy Piper put Andre The Giant to sleep.
RODDY PIPER vs. MIKE GRAHAM
According to Gordon, Graham has come to LOW to target Kevin Sullivan. He says that everyone in the LOW needs to be wary of Sullivan and that something isn’t quite right about him.
Roddy Piper had a pretty easy time with Mike Graham, though the whole match got upended near the beginning when Piper moved out of the way of a rushing Graham and Graham flew out of the ring. On the floor, Kevin Sullivan came rushing out and attacked Graham with a chair, which may have swung the match into Piper’s favor (even though this is the man that defeated Andre The Giant).
Piper locked on the SLEEPER to end things at 4:12. **
Commercial Break
MAGNUM TA and WAHOO MCDANIEL SPEAK
TA and Wahoo came to the interview platform, where Gordon Solie waited with a number of questions. TA wanted the microphone, told Gordon that all would be answered but that he wanted to talk.
“Wahoo,” Magnum said, “you know that I respect you. If I didn’t, you wouldn’t have been the man that I turned to to take out Dusty Rhodes. Look, I was frustrated with what happened and I began to take it out on you but I would like to apologize and I would like to shake your hand and put this in the past.”
McDaniel looked at Magnum’s outstretched hand and shook his head side to side and smiled a wry smile.
“The last guy that fell for that line was Dusty Rhodes,” Wahoo said. “Dusty Rhodes is a sucker. I am not a sucker.”
McDaniel went to leave but Magnum grabbed him by the arm and asked him to wait a minute.
“I suggest you take your hand off my arm unless you want to pull back a stump,” McDaniel said.
Magnum took his hand off Wahoo’s arm. “Just hear me out,” he said.
Before he could sucker McDaniel in with any more words, Tully Blanchard jumped him from behind and Magnum and Tully began to rain punches and kicks on Wahoo.
Gordon told us that we had to go to commercial break and the show cut to commercial.
Commercial Break
FOR THE UNITED STATES HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE
DEWEY ROBERTSON vs. KEVIN SULLIVAN (C)
Sullivan had quite a challenge as Robertson more than adequately held his own. In the end, however, it was a brawl outside the ring that ended in a DQ win for the champion.
**1/2, Time of the match: 6:52.
BOB BACKLUND APOLOGIZES, INTRODUCES HIS NEW MANAGER
Bob Backlund was interviewed at his home earlier in the week by Gordon Solie, who showed us the video package.
He asked why Bob snapped like he did and Bob said he doesn’t remember snapping and that he’s really worried about it. He has seen the video and he has tried to make sense of it but he can’t. He should be able to remember it but he doesn’t.
“That wasn’t me, Gordon,” Backlund said.
“Well, have you been looking into what happened? Perhaps sought some medical or psychological attention?” Gordon asked.
“I really haven’t,” Backlund said. “I guess I haven’t made the time to do that.”
“Well, I certainly would think heavily about doing so,” Gordon said.
“I just want to say that I am sorry to my fans and that it will never happen again,” Backlund said. He started to say that he would “promise” but, before he could get anything else out, his new manager came on-screen. Backlund’s eyes brightened up as if he had discovered something no one else had ever before.
“I also wanted to discuss that I have a manager now and he’s going to help me get to the bottom of this stuff,” Backlund said.
His new manager was none other than James J. Dillion.
Gordon Solie did not even think about saying anything. Dillion just smiled and nodded at everything that Bob said.
Commercial Break
THE HEAVENLY BODIES vs. THE ROCK ‘N ROLL EXPRESS
The Rock ‘N Express defeated The Heavenly Bodies by DQ when Stan Lane came in to make a pin save attempt and went a bit too far, getting the referee to disqualify the Bodies at 8:22. ***
Commercial Break
PRINCESS VICTORIA vs. TINA MORETTI
These two fought to a ten-minute time limit draw. They continued to fight after the bell and were finally broken up by a host of referees. ***
Final Commercial Break
MAIN EVENT
RANDY SAVAGE vs. RICK RUDE (winner will face off against Kevin Sullivan for the US Title next week)
Savage bloodied and battered Rick Rude on his way to victory with a piledriver at 11:10 and he will face Kevin Sullivan in next week’s main even for the United States Heavyweight Title. ***

LEGENDS OF WRESTLING CARD #10 – 5-6-2023
We started out with Gordon Solie and Roddy Piper welcoming us back to Legends Of Wrestling. Gordon talked about how they have been off the air for a little while but they are back and then Roddy interrupted to say that it’s great to be back but he has had some time to think.
“And not all of it has been good,” Piper said. “I’ve done some soul-searching, man, and there’s something I need to get off my chest and I want to do that later in the show, if he’ll let me.”
“If who will let you?” Gordon asked.
“I want to…this is a little bit hard for me to say, Mr. Solie. I was wrong and I want to apologize to Andre The Giant, man. I gotta apologize to Andre.”
Gordon was incredulous. He asked Piper to clarify. “Let me get this straight. You want to apologize to Andre The Giant.”
“Yes, sir,” Piper said.
“Okay,” Gordon said, his eyebrows raised. “That should be interesting indeed. Let’s go to the ring now for our first contest.”
BOB BACKLUND w/JAMES J. DILLON vs. TONY ATLAS
Atlas started off well and had control of the match for a fair bit of the opening minutes. But Backlund gradually made his way back into the match. Then it became a back and forth battle, with neither man really having control for very long. Backlund finished with a ROLLING BACKBRIDGE after having thrown Atlas into the ropes and he got the victory. James J. Dillon celebrated with his new charge after the match. **1/2
VIDEO WITH JIMMY HART AND TOMMY RICH
Tommy Rich started out the video by saying that he doesn’t think that anyone over at Legends Of Wrestling is listening, that he is the Southern Heavyweight Champion and, as such, he is entitled to a World Heavyweight Title match against whomever the champion might be and he hasn’t gotten his yet.
“So I’m issuing this challenge to Big Van Vader,” Rich said. “Vader, I know you’re big and tough and that you have destroyed your competition. But you’ve never faced me and I don’t think you have what it takes to beat me. I’ll be here next week, on Legends Of Wresting, and I won’t settle for anything less than a match against you. Doesn’t even have to be for the World Title. But after I beat you, the next time, it better be.”
MASKED SUPERSTAR vs. WAHOO MCDANIEL
Wahoo with a hard-fought victory over The Masked Superstar, winning with the TOMAHAWK CHOP. **1/2
After the match, Gordon got a word with McDaniel. Wahoo said he doesn’t want the sympathy of the fans and that, unlike Dusty Rhodes, he doesn’t need anyone to watch his back.
“Magnum TA, Tully Blanchard, when I get my hands on both of you, you’re gonna wish you never heard my name.”
THE BRISCO BROTHERS vs. GEORGE SOUTH and TOM “ROCKY” STONE
With only minor trouble, The Briscos defeated South and Stone when Jack Brisco locked in a figure four leglock on South after targeting on of his knees. Stone tried to make a save but Jerry Brisco cut him off and South submitted. *1/2
After the match, Jim Cornette and The Midnight Express were interviewed. Cornette said that The Midnights want The Brisco Brothers, that they have earned their title shot and they want it here next week. He said that if the Briscos are the tough and competent champions that they think they are, they will have no problem with that challenge.
“But remember, boys,” Cornette said, “you will be facing the greatest tag team on the planet!"
MAIN EVENT for the UNITED STATES HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE
“MACHO MAN” RANDY SAVAGE vs. KEVIN SULLIVAN (C)
Before the match started, Gordon Solie got a phone call from Bobby Heenan, who said that not only does Vader accept Tommy Rich's challenge, he will put the World Title on the line right here, next week.
After a very fast start by Savage, Sullivan knew that his title was in jeopardy and resorted to the use of a foreign object which got his disqualified, allowing him to retain the United States Title. *1/2 After the match, Savage, incensed, got up and ran after Sullivan to get some measure of revenge. This one is far from over.
RODDY PIPER APOLOGIZES TO ANDRE THE GIANT
After the last commercial break of the show, Roddy Piper called out Andre The Giant. When Andre didn’t come out, Piper began to beg.
“Please, man,” Piper said. “I will get down on my knees if that’s what it takes. I have to get this off my conscience.”
Finally, after Piper got down on his knees, Andre came through the curtain. As he arrived at Piper’s location, he loomed over the kneeling Piper. Piper stayed where he was.
“Look, Andre,” he said, staring up at the giant, “I don’t want to fight with you. I just wanna to say that I’m sorry, that I shouldn’ta done what I did a few weeks ago. I want to say that I’m sorry and I wanna let bygones be bygones, man.”
Just then, Bob Orton Jr. and newcomer Don Muraco ran out and grabbed Andre by the arms as Roddy got up off his knees and began slapping Andre across the face. He slapped him a few times and then started to paintbrush him with slaps.
As Gordon bemoaned how we should have known all along that this was a set-up, Piper picked up the microphone and said, “I shouldn’ta stopped with the sleeper, man! I shoulda showed the world what a goof you really are! A big tough giant felled by little ol’ me!”
Piper turned away from Andre to face the camera and brag some more. Andre, however, had broken free of Orton and Muraco, headbutting both. Having laid them out, he turned his attention to Piper and headbutted him from behind, knocking Piper unconscious.
We get a graphic of next week’s fantastic title bouts (The Brisco Brothers vs. The Midnight Express for the LOW World Tag Team Title and Big Van Vader vs. Tommy Rich for the LOW World Heavyweight Title) over the image of Andre standing over Piper’s unconscious body as the show ends.

I had a feeling Piper was up to something from the get-go. Andre should have seen that one coming from a mile away. He got the last laugh in the end though.
Too bad Atlas couldn't pull off the upset against Backlund. Backlund has become a bit too dominant in my LOW Fed and I have to admit I'm starting to root against him every time I roll out one of his matches.
I'll be cheering on Savage in his re-match against Sullivan.
Looking forward to the Briscos-Midnights and the Vader-Rich matches.
Great stuff as always.👍

LEGENDS OF WRESTLING CARD #11 - 5/13/2023
Gordon Solie and Roddy Piper welcomed us to another episode of Legends Of Wrestling. Tonight's episode was a special two-hour edition and Piper not-so-humbly interrupted Gordon to talk about what's going to happen in hour number two.
"You see," Piper said, shaking his head from side to side in some kind of crazy, supposedly superior way, "Andre The Giant, you made a really big mistake man. Let me get serious for a moment. Mr. Solie, would you kindly instruct these people to keep it down while I am trying to speak. Andre, man, you did just about the stupidest thing that you coulda done last week. You put your hands on me, but more importantly, you knocked me out. No one does that to me. You understand? No, maybe not. But you will."
Gordon pitched it to the ring and announcements were made for the competitors in the first match.
DEBBIE COMBS vs. SHERRI MARTEL
It was the debut of Debbie Combs and Sherri Martel won it by DQ when Debbie's mother, Cora Combs, got too overzealous and came down to the ring to try and help her daughter. After the match, Debbie and Cora argued about whether she should be getting involved in Debbie's matches. Nothing was resolved.
*1/2
MAGNUM TA and TULLY BLANCHARD vs. GEORGE SOUTH and TOM "ROCKY" STONE
Magnum and Tully worked well as a team and soon had the team of South and Stone on the ropes. Magnum ended things with a BELLY TO BELLY SUPLEX.
After the match, Wahoo McDaniel came in and attacked Blanchard, driving him from the ring. Magnum tried to get away but McDaniel was too fast and began to kick and punch TA, getting him down in a corner where he really put the boots to him. But Wahoo forgot about Tully, who came and laid a chair shot into McDaniel's back. As the heels continued to beat on Wahoo, Dusty Rhodes finally made his way to the ring and cleared it. Dusty offered a hand to help Wahoo up but Wahoo rolled out of the ring instead.
*
"MACHO MAN" RANDY SAVAGE vs. KEVIN SULLIVAN (C) for the UNITED STATES HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
Before the match, Gordon Solie showed video of what happened last week when Sullivan used a foreign object on Savage and was disqualified, thus retaining his title.
Savage came in a hot of fire again this week and Sullivan started to watch his belt vanish from his waist again. There was a little more action this week but it ended in a similar manner as Sullivan got himself disqualified for piledriving Savage on the concrete floor. Savage by DQ for the second week in a row.
**1/2
A WORD WITH WAHOO
Gordon Solie brought out Wahoo McDaniel to talk about what happened earlier and when pressed whether he will accept the help of Dusty Rhodes, Wahoo just stared through Gordon and walked off.
ANDRE THE GIANT vs. DON MURACO
It did not take long for Andre to totally take Muraco apart, ending with a big splash. That was the cue for Bob Orton Jr. to jump into the ring and attempt to attack Andre. Andre took Orton into a corner and used his weight as a weapon against Orton, crushing him in the corner. Roddy Piper thought about getting into the ring but decided against it and Andre stood tall for the second week in a row.
*
VIDEO OF THE MIDNIGHT EXPRESS CHALLENGE TO THE BRISCO BROTHERS
We got a video package of The Midnight Express challenging The Briscos to a match and the Heavenly Bodies and the Rock 'N Roll Express being involved.
THE MIDNIGHT EXPRESS vs. THE BRISCO BROTHERS for the LOW WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE
The Briscos should thank their lucky stars as the Heavenly Bodies ran in and attacked Jim Cornette, which distracted Bobby Eaton and Dennis Condrey enough to allow for Jack to roll Bobby up for the victory. Prior to that, The Midnight Express seemed to have The Briscos number, able to counter almost everything they threw at the challengers.
After the match, there was a huge brawl, with all three teams involved. Outside the ring, Roddy Piper attended to Cornette.
****
MAIN EVENT
FOR THE LOW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE
TOMMY RICH w/JIMMY HART vs. BIG VAN VADER (C) w/BOBBY "THE BRAIN" HEENAN
Heenan had warned that Vader was going to take Rich apart and that's exactly what he did, taking his time with him, allowing Rich false hope at times. Eventually, Vader finished with not one but two VADER'S POWER BOMBs and retained the belt. Is there anyone that can take Vader to the limit?
