Well, my day just got off to a GREAT start. I woke up in here in Rome, checked my phone and saw that my Canucks just finished off an 8-1 ass-whipping of the Edmonton Oilers back in Vancouver. I was glad to see Brock Boeser get 4 of those goals as he's struggled to live up to his potential since his great rookie season. Injuries, personal family matters, lack of self-confidence and poor coaching have all been major contributors to this. Once Rick Tocchet took over as coach last year his play improved considerably and this was EXACTLY the start he needed to his season. Hopefully he can stay healthy for a whole season.🤞 Elias Petterson & JT Miller each had a goal and 3 assists and new captain Quinn Hughes had 3 assists so it was a good night for all of our top guns. Conor Garland and Dakota Joshua each added a goal meaning we got some scoring from the third and fourth lines as well which has been a problem in the past. I'm a little concerned that Thatcher Demko didn't play the entire game in net and I'm hoping he didn't get injured. They may have just decided to put the back-up in to get him some reps since they had such a commanding lead. I will be keeping an eye on that. I'm not going to overreact because it was just one game but the Canucks have gotten off to slow starts the past few years and dug themselves into a deep hole which has resulted in them playing catch-up in the playoff chase. This was PRECISELY the start they needed to the year and hopefully this is a positive sign of things to come. I just found out the reason Demko left the game early. Apparently he was battling the flu, was suffering from dehydration and vomited in his goalie mask!🤮 That sounds like a pretty good reason to put the backup goalie in. Considering Demko stopped 21 out of the 22 shots he faced his illness didn't seem to affect his performance. Team officials said he should be ready to go for their next game on Saturday night which is good to hear.

After their 10-1 beatdown of the Sharks last night my Canucks are a very respectable 7-2-1 after ten games and are sitting in second place in the Pacific Division.
Elias Petterson is second in the league in points, Quinn Hughes leads all defencemen in points & plus/minus and Brock Boeser is showing signs of finally turning into a superstar (Hopefully he can avoid the injury bug). Thatcher Demko continues to be solid in net and Casey DeSmith has been adequate as the backup.
The massive overhaul to our blueline in the off-season is paying dividends as our goaltenders are no longer facing 40-50 shots per game on a regular basis like last season.
Now it hasn't all been great: The penalty kill could still use some work, the Canucks are currently ranked 19th in the league, however that's a vast improvement over last year when their PK was ranked dead last. I also wouldn't mind seeing a little bit more scoring from the third and fourth lines too.
I know it's early and the schedule has been a bit soft so far but it looks like things are finally starting to come together for this team. With the way they've been playing, plus the fact that several teams in the Pacific are struggling this year, the playoffs are looking like a very real possibility for the Canucks this season.
GO CANUCKS GO!🥳

I may even get adventurous and go watch the team on the road this season; maybe in Seattle or Las Vegas. well if you come here to Las Vegas to see your Canucks play VGK (who just smoked Colorado last night 7-0,) let me know and I wll buy you a beer. My cousin in Boise who spent years in Minnesota once came here to Las Vegas for a Wild-Golden Knights game and he had a great time. Seeing your team play on the Las Vegas Strip is a must IMO for any NHL fan.

Tuesday and Wednesday are my days off so I could easily do that trip without booking any time off from work. I will definitely have to consider that. The Knights are looking like a serious contender again this season. Best of luck to them the rest of the year, unless they're playing Vancouver of course.

That Sharks team is bad. Yikes. Boy, are they ever! They just lost 10-2 to the Penguins last night. Just read an article on ESPN stating that that was the first time since 1965 that a team has allowed 10 goals in back-to-back games. They've also tied the NHL record for worst start to a season and through 11 games this year they've scored a grand total of 12 goals! Yikes, indeed.

I remember in the spring of 2002 while living in Atlanta going to Nashville to watch the Wings play the Predators. It was the year we were marching to another Cup. After the game we leave the arena and a bar across the street looked like Hockey Town 2.0 as there were a bunch of Wings jerseys. Good time hitting the bars in Nashville after a win. I can only imagine how sweet it would be in Vegas. I mean, if the Wings were really good and beat Vegas on their ice.

Going to my first Canucks game of the season tonight against the Islanders. This will be Bo Horvat's first time back in Vancouver since last season's trade. It will be interesting to see the reaction he gets from the crowd after these comments he made shortly after leaving town. www.nbcsports.com/nhl/news/islanders-bo-horvat-clarifies-better-than-vancouver-commentWhile I agree he shouldn't have said what he said I'm sure it was frustrating playing for a losing team that had such inept management for the bulk of his time here. Personally, I'll cheer for him when they do the in-game tribute for him tonight. While he never turned into a superstar he was still a consistent 20-30 goal scorer and one of the top face-off men in the league. At the same time I'm glad the new management team didn't cave in to his unreasonable contract demands as I don't think he's worth the $8.5 million per season the Islanders are now paying him. I feel like the trade was a win for the Canucks as the first round pick we got from the Isles in return was then flipped to the Red Wings for Filip Hronek who's having an outstanding season on the blueline for us. Current Canuck players have encouraged fans not to boo him at tonight's game and I hope they listen.
