Hi I've always had Coke! Too bad when the "cola wars" played out that Coke switched the formula, then decided to switch back in the 1980's, because the switch back replaced sugar with corn syrup so the taste was never the same afterwards. Ah yes, the New Coke debacle. Arguably the biggest marketing blunder in human history. Unfortunately I never got the opportunity to try it as I was still a toddler at the time. While I heard it was horrible I wish I could have tasted it for myself just to see if it was as bad as everyone said it was.

Actually New Coke ended up helping Coke in the end. Lots of people who had fallen off were suddenly drinking Coke again.
Now, as for which was the worst, that's debatable.
Also if they have Pepsi, I'll usually go with Dr. Pepper if they have it.

To me New Coke tasted like Pepsi. Part of me thinks it was all a work. They made their product sweeter like Pepsi to show their drinkers it is not the way to go. A funny story from that time I remember hearing in the news that after original Coke was gone people were selling bottles and cases at a HUGE price increase. Much like years later people did with video game consoles when they first came out. The difference is with the consoles you knew new ones would be made, you just had to wait. With Coke we did not know they would backtrack and rerelease Original Coke.
For those that do not know, if you like the old taste of Coke, ie with cane sugar, get Coke from Mexico. Most grocery stores sell it. While a bit higher price it is really the original recipe and comes in a glass bottle. To me, nothing beats a cold original Coke in a glass bottle on a hot, steamy day. It is the best.

The Coke or Pepsi doesn't matter much to me, but I always prefer Cheery over the standard cola. If they don't have Cherry I would go Dr Pepper. I never buy in the store, jut when at a restaurant and I want soda instead of iced tea.

Growing up I hated both. In 2018 I had a destination wedding in Mexico, a lot of alcohol which I broke up with the one soda they had, Coca Cola. Came back home, US coke was okay, McDonalds Coke was really good and so was the Mexican coke bottles you could buy at the supermarket.
Young me would be shocked, but I'll take a coke please (Mexican or McDonalds if possible lol)

Coke as the "mixer within adult beverages".
Pepsi for a stand-alone drink, smoother and sweeter than coke. (But it is just too sweet to be a mixer within adult beverages".)
AND for "the other" it's Barqs Rootbeer. Just love the flavor!
