Del Taco is fast food similar to Taco Bell, but it tastes great and is perfect for a quick stop for food while on the road between Las Vegas and Los Angeles. So still a fast food taco but maybe a little better that Taco Bell? Better than Taco Bell? Thats crazy talk.

We don't have Del Tacos in Minnesota. Is it a fast food place like Taco Bell or closer to something like Rusty Taco or Chipotle? Del Taco was founded by Glen Bell after he sold off the Taco Bell franchise. Del Taco has burgers, fries and some sandwiches on top of southwest Mexican fast food. Its an interesting place. Taco Bell used to have a loose burger called the Bell Beefer. When my family first started going to Taco Bell in late 70s or early 80s that was the only thing I would eat. Funny thing, I mentioned it recently in my 80's fed.

Oh and while I like Taco Bell, I am boycotting it over the whole Taco Tuesday thing. Going forward if I use the term I will try and say, "Taco John Tuesday".

I didnt even know about the petition to revoke the trademark. I see Taco Bell is Celebrating by giving away Doritos Locos tacos every tuesday for the next few weeks. I have never had Taco Johns but I do see there is one close by where we will be in Massachusetts next month.

The Chicken & Potato Burrito is my go-to.

Also, they will be doing something big next month, I think. I have never had the pleasure of having a Taco Johns, but I am on their side in the dispute. For those that do not know, Taco Johns came up with the term "Taco Tuesday" 40 some years ago as a promotion and they trade marked it. Fast forward a couple decades and the term became a commonly used one by people. Then Taco Bell tried to use it, realized it was trademarked and tried to get the trademark overturned as it was a "common phrase" even though it is only common because Taco John created it and used it. Finally, Taco John got tired of spending money to defend this and released their hold on the copyright. The worse part of all of this is LeBron James. He is on Taco Bell's side saying the phrase should not be copyrighted. As Robin would say, "holy hypocrite Batman". The way James found out that it was copyrighted was he tried to copyright it himself. It was only when he found out it was already copyrighted that he decided it should not be copyrighted.

On the anti-Taco John's side of things, there is a small Mexican place nearby my home called Taco Chon. Taco John's apparently has a lawsuit against them saying their name is too close to Taco Johns. Nothing about Taco Chon is at all like Taco Johns, other than the fact that they serve tacos. It isn't fast food, their logo isn't remotely similar. I honestly don't even know how the big Taco John's corporation would have even heard about this small family owned Mexican restaurant.

I am not sure that Taco John can be credited with popularizing the phrase everywhere. I'm not sure if I ever knew Taco Johns existed before this week. Taco Tuesday is everywhere. I'm on Taco Bell's side for sure. Not sure what the point of holding a copyright on a common phrase is. It was like the ridiculousness of someone having the copyright on the Happy Birthday song at one point.

I'm on Taco Bell's side for sure. Not sure what the point of holding a copyright on a common phrase is. It was like the ridiculousness of someone having the copyright on the Happy Birthday song at one point. I guess it is a chicken or egg question. I do not remember hearing the term till the turn of the century. I never heard it in the 90s. That means it was copyrighted before I heard it. Research says it was used long before the copyright. But did it become commonly used on its own or did the fact Taco John used it regularly led to the common use? I had not heard of Taco John, but others had and as they moved around the country, they could have spread the use of the phrase. It could also have been partly spread because one person heard the term via Taco John and used it in advertising in other parts of the country or in some form of media that exposed it to the masses. I just know the copyright did not become an issue till just the last year or two when LeBron, and maybe Taco Bell, tried to copyright it themselves. That is my biggest issue. They try and do something, find out someone beat them by a few decades and then they decide no one should be able to do it. The fact is if Taco John had not already had the copyright, they would have done it and felt it was perfectly fine. As far as the Happy Birthday song, that is more generic, but it would depend on when one tried to copyright. If they did it as the person who wrote the song that is one thing. If they tried to do it in the late 1900's or later that IS silly.
