104 win Braves out. 😂 101 win Orioles out. 😳 100 win Dodgers out. 😬
No one with more than 90 wins still alive.
Crazy. 😜

I have been saying for a few years the spring training/preseason is to prepare you for the regular season and the regular season is to prepare you for the playoffs. Getting a lot of wins in the regular season does you know good if you are not getting prepped for post season. I feel like that in baseball more than the other sports the playoffs is a different beat than the regular season. Having home field/court advantage is not worthy wearing your players out to earn that. In football it means a bit more with the one and done but in the other sports all you need is to win at home and win ONE road game. A championship level team should be able to do that.
For me the best laugh is the $364 million Mets not even making the playoffs AND having a worse record than my Tigers.

In addiiton to the Mets, the 2nd and 3rd highest payroll teams the Yankees at $279 million and the Padres at $256 million also missed the playoffs and both teams finished only 2 games above .500 at 82-80. As a Mariners fan, I know all anbout winning games (116 in 200l) but not advancing far into the playoffs. It happens and not just for baseball as the Milwaukee Buscks had the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference Playoffs last year and lost in the First Round to the #8 seeed Miami Heat.

I still say there needs to be an * next to that #8 seed. They finished the regular season as #7 but fell to #8 due to losing their first play-in game. Either way, it was not good for Bucks to lose to them. Miami was yet another example of a team doing just enough to get in and then playing really good when it mattered.

Imagine running a marathon. You're ahead of the other runners by a mile. They pull the next 10 runners for the final mile even with you and all 11 of you sprint for a mile. Do you consider that fair? More than any other sport, baseball is a marathon...or...at least, it was.

I think so. Every team in the playoffs has played the same number of games going into the playoffs. The regular season is important because it sets the tone for the postseason but regular season success does not guarantee any team playoff success.

Win totals for the final four teams: 90, 90, 90 and 84. That is 8 games over .500 for three and 2 games over.500 for the other.
Atlanta is gone this year but two years ago they won it all after an 88-win season. In 2019 Washington won the WS after winning 93 games. Often winning over 100 games leads to a WS win but less wins can get the job done as long as you get in the postseason and have prepared your team for it.
