I realized awhile ago that I was creating threads for old movies that did not require it. New ones, sure, but not old ones. Thus this thread. For anything movies, tv shows and yes, even commercials. Or whatever else might fall in the general area of these.
Commercials is one I want to touch on first. I love, love, LOVE the new Macy's commercial. For those who have not seen it the commercial starts hot by using music from the shopping scene in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Then we see a boy shopping with his dad for a gift. Who is the kid shopping for? We do not know at first except it is not for him or one of his friends. That is because he holds a hand up to his face to block his view of the toy section as he passes it. So cute. Finally he gets in line to see Macy's department store Santa and he pulls his gift out from behind him. It is a pair of slippers and he tells Santa it is for him for after work. Now, I know they did not get the idea from the time long ago I asked Santa what HE wanted for Christmas but I like to pretend they did. Either way, it is a very cute commercial that I do not mind sitting thru.

I forgot to mention I saw The Marvels yesterday. Not sure why it is doing so bad and getting negative reviews. Well, I understand some of it and I ain't got time for that silliness. I also know some of it is Brie Larson and how she portrays Carol Danvers. I did not get a lot of exposure to her in the comics so I have no issue with her performance but I understand if some do. It is like me and how I feel about Garfield, the actor not the cat, playing Peter Parker. Beyond that my guess is it is not like some of the other comic book hero movies but that is what I liked about it. It was different and some I did not dig but I liked most of it. Endless fights can get old. This movie had comedy but did not overdue it as if they were trying to make the movie a comedy, I see you Thor franchise. Not going to spoil anything but one scene was amazing and instantly became one of my favorite scenes in any movie let alone a Marvel one. All I will say is evacuation. If you see the movie you will know what I am talking about. Visually, musically, conceptionally it is just very cool. This was not the greatest Marvel movie as it is flawed like most if not all Marvel movies. Still it is worth seeing. FYI there is a mid credit scene but nothing at the end.

Highly unlikely I’ll watch it as superhero movies just aren’t my thing. However, if Garfield the cat played Peter Parker in one of them that would definitely be a must-see for me. It would be PURR-fect.😁

It was definitely cute; the kid trying out the cologne made me laugh. Thanks for letting us know about it. For commercials featuring cute kids this one from Subaru a few years ago always makes me laugh. I frequently use the kid’s “people, you’re killing me” line at work when customers put items back on the wrong shelf.

Here is an interesting story about how Norman Lear, who passed recently, helped save the movie Stand by Me". It also shows how clueless movie studios can be at times. Norman Lear saved "Stand by Me".

Interesting story. At least Columbia Pictures realized their mistake before it was too late. In my opinion Stand By Me remains to date the greatest coming-of-age movie ever made. I would put "12 And Holding" down as a close second though. Kudos to Lear for stepping up with the funding himself although I would imagine $8 Million was pocket change for him by that point.

I had to be up early this morning before work so used the opportunity to go see Godzilla Minus One. I am glad I did. This might be my favorite Godzilla movie of all time. It has a pretty good story line. It has some awesome scenes of Godzilla doing what he does. They were far from the cheesy ones from the 60's and 70's that I love. They felt realistic and you sense the incredible power and threat of the big guy. The lead up to his atomic breath was a bit weird but not a big deal. One part near the end was predictable even if it did not happen exactly how I thought it would. Also a bit of a happy Hollywood conclusion but I ain't mad about that. A few funny parts in the movie as well. I hope if they do a sequel to this they keep the main characters and if not, at least the main supporting cast as they worked good together and played off each other nicely. I would say this is a must see for Godzilla fans. 8/10

I forgot to mention two trailers I saw for movies coming out next year. One is Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Set farther in the future where apes speak and humans do not. So much like the original Planet. One thing we never learned was the fate of the astronauts on the shuttle in space. I mention that as a segue into the other trailer, I.S.S. It is about a team of American astronauts and Russian cosmonauts on the International Space Station. They are all friendly and ignore the politics of their countries. That is until nuclear war breaks out on Earth and their countries tell them to take control of the I.S.S. and things get interesting. This looks really good.

Here is a nice festive trip down memory lane. 8 forgotten Christmas specialsNumber 3 I remember due to having seen it a pair of times over the last decade or two. I would have seen it more but usually it airs at like 6 or 7 in the morning when I am sleeping. I never saw number 7 but did include it in my 80's Wrestling fed, Radically Cool Wrestling (RCW).
