I have enjoyed reading these stories about Florida.
With my contract situation at work now settled, I am going to be able to start traveling domestically a little once again and for the first time in almost 3 1/2 decades it looks like I will be in Florida this March when we have a 3-day weekend at work.
I will be in Tampa Bay where I plan to go to Major League Wrestling's War Chamber show (tickets go on sale on Friday,) go to a Blue Jays vs Rays game, tour Raymond James Stadium (provided they have a Friday or Saturday tour which according to the stadium's website they sometimes do but those tours are not available to book until the previous week,) check out Ybor City, and I am not sure what else yet. I believe I will be flying in early that Friday morning (red eye flight) and leaving late that Sunday night but so far I have only purchased the return flight home (I will secure the flight there on Pay Day next week when my new raise kicks in.)
Sounds like a fun weekend you have planned.
Stadium tours are always fun to do although I find them much better with a smaller group than a large one. When I toured Petco Park in San Diego it was just me and a family of four and the tour felt more personal and not quite as rushed. My tour of Rogers Centre in Toronto was with a massive group and while it was still fun their wasn't a lot of time for the guide to answer questions and we were quickly ushered from one place to another. (Quick side note to Rogers Communications: Stop putting your name on sports arenas in Canada. Between Rogers Centre in Toronto, Rogers Arena here in Vancouver and now Rogers Place in Edmonton it's becoming difficult to keep track of which venue is which.)
I hope to get back to Florida again too someday. I was there in 2011 and the highlight of my trip was being in Gainesville to watch my Gators beat the Tennessee Volunteers in person. I also made my way down to Orlando for a few days to check out Universal Studios which was incredible, especially The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter.
The bulk of my trip was in Jacksonville though. Dealing with the 98 degree humid weather my first few days there was quite an adjustment for someone who has never experienced it: I nearly passed out from the heat at the Jaguars-Titans game I attended. Jacksonville was a fun city to visit although their public transit system is dreadful. Hopefully it's improved since I was there.
One thing I didn't find out about until I got back from my trip is that Jacksonville apparently is one of the most crime-ridden cities in the State. However, I went all throughout the city, including into the so-called "bad areas", and never once felt unsafe.
sounds like you had fun on that Florida trip!
so far for Florida, I have only been to Orlando for a Disney trip back in the early 1990s
I am looking forward to seeing Tampa Bay in March and at some point in the future I also really want to see Miami.
