David Shaw, a former CFL defensive back. passed away at the age of 71 Shaw played defensive back for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Winnipeg Blue Bombers from 1975 to 1986. He was a CFL All-Star five times and was part of the Blue Bombers Grey Cup championship team in 1984. During his career, Shaw intercepted 36 passes for 740 yards. He played college football at the Prairie View A&M University.

Jim Tonn, a former halfback in the CFL, passed away on September 28th at the age of 88. The following is an excerpt from Tonn's online obituary: Tonn, a former Mayor of Coquitlam and a professional football player, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of service and sportsmanship. Born in Winnipeg, Jim was a standout athlete, playing for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the B.C. Lions in the Canadian Football League (CFL) from 1957 top 1959 before transitioning to a brief career in sales followed by three decades dedicated to public service. In 1971, he was elected as a Coquitlam City Councillor and the following year, as Mayor, a position he held with distinction until 1983. During his time in office, Jim was involved in numerous municipal leadership roles, including serving as President of the Union of B.C. Municipalities and Deputy Chairman of the Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD). He additionally served the City of Coquitlam as City Manager from 1983 to 1990. He retired from his role as an Appeal Commissioner at the Worker's Compensation Board of BC in 2001. Tonn played 3 games in the CFL.

John Henderson, a former NHL goalie, passed away on October 4th at age 91. Henderson was the Boston Bruins' oldest living goalie. Among NHL netminders, he was second-oldest behind only Hall of Fame legend Glenn Hall. Henderson played 46 games for the Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League between 1954 and 1956. The rest of his career, which lasted from 1953 to 1961, and again from 1965 to 1970, was spent in various minor leagues. With the Whitby Dunlops he won the 1957 and 1959 Allan Cup, the senior championship of Canada.

I missed the posting of Greg Landry on here. He is one of the first professional players I remember as a kid as he was with the Lions thru 78 and recall hearing his name mentioned back then. Him, Gary Danielson, Billy Sims and Eric Hipple. RIP

Bob Speake, a former Major League Baseball outfielder and first baseman, passed away at 94, in Topeka, Kansas. Born in Springfield, Missouri, Bob’s journey in baseball began with a passion that led him to the major leagues, where he played as an outfielder for the Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants during the 1950s. Bob was known for his powerful swing and dedication to the sport. His career highlights include playing in 305 MLB games and hitting 31 home runs with 104 RBI's. After retiring from professional baseball, Bob continued to contribute to the sport by coaching young players and sharing his love for the game.
