I think sometimes we place a little too much importance on the fact that wrestlers former tag team partners are in the game. Some of these folks don’t see one another after they are done teaming, and it may not matter that Windham, J.J., and Tully are in the game, if Arn still isn’t in contact with them, and even if he is. A specific partner or opponent may not make a difference but it definitely can. I have signed a wrestler that had told me "Anything with ______ attached to it can have me."

I always show potential signings pics of people they were associated with during their time in wrestling. It’s really a stupid idea if you DONT do that.

"Hey, do you want to be in this wrestling game?" "I don't know. Cards and dice? Sounds like nerd stuff." "Well, Lou Thesz, Bob Backlund, and Nick Bockwinkel didn't think so..."

For what it's worth a name worth mentioning to Arn that's in the game would probably be the guy he's repeatedly described on his podcast as one of his best friends in addition to being a former partner and, apparently, for a time Arn's next door neighbor: Bobby Eaton. Guys might have issues Tully, but everyone loved Bobby.

Bobby was just one of the nicest humans ever. I do remember Cornette mentioning Arn and Bobby being neighbors.

Yeah, from my 15 year experience in signing wrestlers for the game, the best approach is to show them names they are familiar with such as former teammates (tag teams, factions, etc,) common former opponents, family members (if applicable) and the more cards that get released makes it more possible to do that.
I think Barry was saying that doing that is not a guarantee and that is very true. For example, I was once unable to sign Jimmy Snuka Jr. to the game despite him liking the card of his father Jimmy Snuma who I showed him. For another example, I sent a message to Steve Maclin last Summer with the card art of his wife Deonna Purrazzo and I got no response. I recently sent a message to Steph de Lander along with card art of her fiance Mance Warner and also of Matt Cardona, and so far no response (she has reportedly been on record saying she wants royalties for things so I am not completely surpsied I have not heard back from her, but I stil thought what the Hell and took a shot at it.)
On the other hand, I got an immediate yes last year at the Crockett Cup from Velvet Sky as soon as I showed her my autographed card of Angelina Love. For example, I signed Scarlett Bordeaux at Bar Wrestling when I showed her my card of Killer Kross and she instantly screamed "Oh my God!" and then she signed immediatley. Last Summer I signed Akira online after sending him the card art of his girlfried Masha Slamovich and he wrote back early the next day "Of course!" and then I got the form from him via Email. Just TODAY before I went to work I got an Email response from somebody who I Emailed yesterday and I had showed him card art of wrestler he has connections to and he said yes and I have talked to Todd and he will be in this year's Cycle I Indie set as long as he submits the form soon which he said he will do later today.
So I agree with Travis that the best parctice is to show them wrestlers they have a connection to even though it still does not guarantee a yes.

I am assuming my words above were misinterpreted. Did I say we shouldn’t do it, or that it was a terrible idea? No, I just said that sometimes it doesn’t mean as much as we think it does.
