Bingo. It takes great taste to catch an Airplane quote. Which is why you caught it and he didn't. Well, in his defense perhaps he hasn't seen the movie which would explain why the reference went over his head.

Not that my opinion matters, but the completionist in me will get the set due to that. My main concern is that there are still so many open plot threads that haven't been explored (Rage and Disaster, Endgame, Crime Stoppers, just to name a few) why add another one (unless this could be used to fill in those open plot threads). Also there is Kronos and FTR currently that could be explored more. Both CPC/P.O.W and aCe came to abrupt endings and were never really explored again.
Back to this set, I'm hoping that the art will be better in person but so far the only art I've liked is for Hale. I'm also hoping that the stories are more fleshed out than some of the promoter prime backgrounds we've been getting lately, however I'm not holding my breath.
I already have a back up idea for these characters if needed. I was thinking that it could be like Tom Magee's story that was recently brought to light with the lost match between Bret Hart and him. I'll be honest, I had never heard of Tom Magee and for him to have been that close to being chosen as a replacement for Hogan is just unreal to me.
So I'll just play it as we didn't hear about these people before due to reasons like they were injured and never recovered enough to regain the spotlight in the GWF, they just came and went due to a not so stellar win/lose record or they just didn't connect with the crowd/management enough to have them break through (Kizarny, Mordecai, etc). Maybe since there are supposed to be two that are still around, this is why we hear of the others. Maybe they let us know they aren't the only ones to have been "forgotten".

For me, a set like this leaves me with more questions than answers. What am i supposed to do w these cards? I’m not starting my fed over. Is that the idea? With the EC set being released are we all supposed to start our feds over now? Then use these cards as each new year arrives? These cards could have been a second Merapis set. They could have been an FTR set. They could have been Kronos cards. So why “Secret History” was decided on when other, better existing options exist is confusing. Will Secret History continue or is this just a set that is happening because the app project died? This could be a set full of male characters from across time and the same hesitancy would be there. I’ve got lots of dollars invested in other COTG ventures (like FTR) and would much rather see those stories continue than scrap them for this. Feels a bit like Marvel's Secret War(s). A way to add cards but via a different angle/story line. Maybe GDOSEND had a hand in this? That’s great. But this is a wrestling RPG game not a comic book. If GODSEND is involved and they can all fight each other on Merapis that would be great.

This set is enhancement talent over the years in the GWF, me bucko Swarmee... aaaargh Enhancement talent from the 2080’s doesn’t do a whole lot for me when I’m running a fed in 2139. If the goal is to add more enhancement talent, use FTR. But there has not been any official statement on FTR from Tom, and no explanation for why FTR was scrapped last year, or if and when it will continue. Maybe Tom will write something about it in one of his Brain Blogs one day.

The Best of COTG set is based on the idea that GODSEND (the chart sized one) created a fed on Merapis (a new planet, and also the home of both Orrus & the Basilisk) where he hosts a Tournament of Champions using a roster full of GWF legends like Thantos, Monolith, Endgame etc… Basically Kronos but Godsend is in control instead of Solaris. So the idea of GODEND going out on another whim and collecting discarded or lesser known female fighters from throughout time and pitting them against each other on Merapis would have made a lot of sense. Plus it would have been nice to get a follow-up on that story.

Though I am curious about the storytelling for this set, I have no interest in the cards. The art is dreadful and I can't get around that. So I just can't figure out if I should buy it.

If GODSEND is involved and they can all fight each other on Merapis that would be great. Are you sure about that? We have seen Tom's admiration for Stan. There are storylines galore especially after the first few sets. We even had some "superheroes" appear in one set with a comic book inspired cover. While this is not a comic book, I would argue that there is comic book DNA in the game. Especially over the last decade or so.

Just speaking for me, I can buy an "untold, secret history" of Spider-Man--i.e., an adventure that wasn't told in comic form at the time but took place at some in the past when, say, Gwen Stacy was still alive, or when Aunt May was thought to be dead--more than I can buy into members of established superteams that we didn't know about until after the fact. I can believe that Spider-Man has minor adventures and criminal encounters that aren't necessarily documented in the comics.

No denying that Tom is a big comic book fan and obviously many comic book characters have inspired many GWF wrestlers — but what I mean by that is if a comic book company puts out some kind of secret history series for readers - I get that. It’s like prequel movies. And that works for comics and movies. But I’m not going to break out 2089 to play these cards, then bust out 2087 to play another one, so on and so forth. It doesn’t translate to the game.
