I arrived in Jamestown Friday around 2pm, along with my grandson Benjamin, and thankfully the kind lady behind the desk allowed us to check in a bit early as check in was not supposed to start until 3pm. La Quinta in downtown Jamestown is... not what I was used to at the Comfort Inn in Jamestown, the parking was atrocious - kind of like lifeboats to passengers on the Titanic. Thankfully, after hearing others, we at least got a room with a GREAT working air-conditioner. Ben and I grabbed dinner and then hung out in the room until people started to trickle in from Buffalo, around 9ish. We sat in the lobby and chatted with some of my favorite people,
malicelover -
DK II -
Sinestro24 and others (I'm spacing on who all was there) as several came and went. Eventually
Mike M (you still suck)
showed up with my sets.
Vegas and I chatted some Star Wars, before he headed across the street. I went outside to get some air and here comes some more fantastic people that I've known for MANY years,
Swarm -
Matt - Jack aka Louden Noxious and the man himself
TOM ! Many headed across the street to a bar, but Pete, Andy, Barry & I hung out in the lobby talking until almost 2am.
Saturday - RAIN!!!!... very HARD at times, plagued most of the day - cancelling the Jamestown Tarp Skunks baseball game.
BOB EVANS was always a tradition for Galacticon attendees but not this year as only Ben and I went there for breakfast. That was not totally true, as my good pal
Thomas (TK) and his son Marcus also went - but they went EARLY! LOL
We headed to Jamestown Community College and when we pulled in the heavens OPENED UP!
Went inside and saw so many faces that I haven't seen in person in years, it was glorious.
mikefortune arrived and the first thing that he did was insult
Thomas (TK) and I, but he's Canadian - no manners is a given, I'm just surprised he's house broken.
Handed out my GALACTICON give-away
THE BRAIN and received many in return.
throwingtoasters 's give away is GREAT and I will get a lot of use out of it, THANK YOU! It was fantastic seeing Grant, as it's probably been 12 plus years since I've seen you in person.
Brocster gave me his NDW bootlegs, and man... how I do love me some NDW!
The aforementioned TK and Barry had some fantastic bootlegs to share and believe you me, I will get use of them all.
Not only was
TOM there, but so was his son ALEX!!! It was great seeing and chatting with him, such a wonderful person. He is almost the exact same age as my son Matthew, they used to have fun together when they were kids at Galacticon in the 90s.
Pete and Sam Luptak are always a pleasure to see and chat with, as we keep in touch most of the year anyway.
TDalton , the first fellow promoter that I ever talked to on the phone showed up and yes
Chad Olson he did give me a hug!
Played in GWF tournament, and SHOW STOPPER (ME) was rolling APEX (
malicelover ) 3 tokens to none, he finally got on offence and pinned me with first attempt.
0-1
Tournament Master arrived with pizza, always great seeing you Todd, and ate lunch with Ben and
stu . Mr. Lao-Ree (the green alien) and I had a great discussion on LOW.
Tom's GALACTICON surprise was
CHUCK 'FREAKING' CARTER, COTG's Jack Kirby!!! I had met Chuck several times, MANY years ago and it was great catching up with him.
I had a blast talking with old friends Jeff
reno & Josh, those 2 have NOT changed in all the years that I've known them.
Mr. Jimmyface is still a hoot, but man you look different with hair.
I won ONE auction item, the 3 pack of stickers - including Spike, Galacticon and original add.
The discussion panels left a lot to be desired, as NOTHING was revealed (spoiler wise) for any of the upcoming sets. Gone are the days of sitting on the Sheldon House patio and hearing Tom's faux pas.
"Yes Bounty Hunter will unmask next year."My head began to ache and was a bit hungry, as two squares of pizza doesn't go very far. I was content sitting and talking with chaps but JACK 'Louden Noxious' bullied me into entering his Lucille Ball women's tournament. He did give me his FANTASTIC bootleg tag team SYNERGY, updated version of his legendary team from 2004.
I drew HYLA and knew I would probably be out quick.
I played someone that I didn't know, I'm pretty sure her name was Kathy. She was there with FRANK
TTX and Kevin Wible.
She had PURGE, clearly the better card but HYLA rolled her.
1-0
1-1 overall for day
Next was WITCH (
LAWraith ) and I clearly thought that I had the better card, but the dice had other ideas.
I hit my finisher 3 times, 1 (+2) & 2 (+1) and he rolled his pin twice on his own. 5 kick outs - 5 tokens!
The 'other' Todd
never rolled below 9 when rolling his pin. 9 - 12 - 10 - 11 - 10
He got on offense and pinned me with his 'first' attempt, go figure.
My headache growing a bit, no excuse, I titled and was a poor sport. F*@% THE DICE!
I don't have a good reason why, because as you can see, I only played in 2 tournaments (3 matches) as it's not about that any more for me.
Besides, 2 Galacticon CUPS is enough for me.
Though we all can't have 5 (tainted) cups like the king.
1-1
1-2 overall for day
With the game rained out, Ben and I went to get something to eat and then headed back to the hotel.
I showered and thought I'm going lay down and read the book some, it was about 9pm, and that's the last thing I remember until around 6am Sunday morning.
I went out to the lobby and found
Sinestro24 and
TTX having the complimentary breakfast, chatted a bit and then headed home about 7:30am.
Ben and I made GREAT time and got home around 11:30am, he is a wonderful travel buddy and makes the trip fly by with his constant whitty conversation.
It was a BLAST like always and like always I dipped out early with my 'Irish Good-Bye'
if I omitted anyone, it was not intentional AT ALL, heck I can't even remember
Sinestro24 's name is Andy!
Mike M &
Tournament Master where is GALACTION 36 (2025) going to be?...?
