BOB BACKLUND 3 (C) vs. 'The Magnificent' DON MURACO 3

The Intercontinental Champion started strong, working on Backlund's back with repeated over-the-shoulder backbreakers. The HAWAIIAN HAMMER put Backund down for an early two count, but a foot on the ropes broke the count. Howdy Doody went to the outside several times, trying to break the Magnificent One's momentum. The usually strict DICK WOEHRLE let 'the good guy' Backlund get away with slamming Muraco's head into the announce table and again later into the ring post - busting Muraco wide-open, this enraged Muraco's manager LOU ALBANO! Backlund almost made Muraco submit with a Boston Crab, but the IC champ was able to grab the bottom rope and force a break. Bob covered Muraco after planting him with a Piledriver - 1.2.. NO! Captain Lou Albano distracted referee Dick Woehrle, enraging Backlund to the point that he went after Albano. Muraco used this opportunity to regroup and hit Backlund with an Asiatic Spike as he climbed back in the ring! 1.2.. NO! Once again Howdy Doody was able to get his foot on the bottom rope forcing a break. Muraco went for a Russian Leg Sweep, but Bob was able to reverse it into a delayed vertical suplex for a near fall!! Backlund was quick to his feet, bouncing from foot-to-foot sizing up Muraco as he struggled to his feet. Backlund locked in the CROSSFACE CHICKENWING and it was all over for the Magnificent One, until Captain Lou Albano rolled in the ring and hit Backlund with a foreign object!!! Referee Dick Woehrle immediately called for the bell, awarding the match to Backlund by virtue of a disqualification!

Eating a jelly doughnut "Howdy Doody Backlund never defeated me, he just paid off the referee to disqualify me to save his title." spitting jelly and pieces of doughnut as he talks. "If he has any guts at all, he will give me a rematch."



In his usual GRUFF voice "Bob Backlund, you got lucky the first time we met but now I'm back in shape. The best shape I've been in since I ended Bruno Sammartino's long title reign, but I know you're afraid of Russian Bear, all Americans are nothing but cowards."

BOB BACKLUND (C) vs. SGT SLAUGHTER 2

Backlund, still sporting the welts on his chest and back, attacked Sarg at the bell like a wildman. Slaughter left the ring several times to try and get away from the vengeful out of control Backlund, but always had to climb back in the ring and into the clutches of the champion. After a couple near falls, Slaughter left the ring one last time and this time the champion followed him to the floor. As both men battled on the floor, Backlund was rammed into the ring post - busting him wide-open. Slaughter then wrapped a cable around Bob's neck and began to choke him out unmercifully. Referee JOEY MARELLA called for the bell, disqualifing Slaughter and awarding the match to Backlund

HUGE SIX-MAN TAG TEAM MATCH!


vs.

Bob Backlund started the match for his team, as Slaughter and Muraco had heated words over who would face him first. The Grand Wizard tried to deescalate the situation between his two men, when Backlund jumped them both from behind. Slaughter was knocked through the ropes and to the floor, taking the Grand Wizard with him off the apron. The two champions exchanged heavy blows, until Backlund finally gained the upper hand with a delayed vertical suplex. The Intercontinental Champion rolled to his corner and tagged in BIG John Studd, who hammered the WWF Champion with clubbing forearm after clubbing forearm. Studd taunted, an already agitated Andre, until the GIANT climbed in the ring and dropped Studd with a BIG boot. After that, all hell broke loose as all six men were fighting in and around the ring. The two behemoths, Andre and Studd, fought in the center of the ring as Backlund and Muraco tumbled through the ropes and to the floor. Referee Dick Woehrle called for the bell, stopping the match and calling a double disqualification! Pat Patterson chased off Slaughter with a steel chair and Studd soon followed suite after Andre clotheslined him over the top rope and to the floor! Backlund in a blind rage had Muraco locked in the Crossface Chickenwing and refused to let him go, even after the bell rang and rang and... rang. Patterson tried to pull Backlund off the unconscious Muraco, but Bob, thinking it was Slaughter or Studd attacking him from behind, turned and decked Pat in the face - breaking his nose and knocking him to the floor. Realizing what he had just done, Backlund immediately apologized and tried to help Pat to is feet, but the fiery Patterson returned the favor by punching Backlund square in the face!! Backlund too it like a champ and continued to apologize but Patterson wasn't hearing it! Patterson grabbed a steel chair and swung it at Backlund but missed wildly, this sent Bob into a rage, and he tackled Patterson to the arena floor. Security was finally able to separate the two, as The Grand Wizard came back out with ice pack for Patterson and his busted nose!!!

The Grand Wizard continues his relentless assault on Bob Backlund, as he sends yet another member of his stable for the WWF Championship. The big 'Cowboy' is arguably the best pure athlete that The Grand Wizard has and Backlund better not look past him, knowing the Magnificent Muraco and Sgt. Slaughter are looking for rematches. Both of which lost by disqualification and were not beaten by pin or submission.
