Hello Promoters. I’m curious…during Tag matches when playing solo…how do you handle tagging out? Do you just follow normal rules & do it whenever it feels right? Do you only allow a tag when the opportunity presents itself on the cards? For whatever reason I tend to go back n forth on how to handle this. Wondered what you all did.
Thanks, Pete

Offensively, whenever it feels right. Defensively will depend on personalities and how badly the one partner is hurting.

I have thought about how I'm going to handle it.. being fairly new to the game and not played many tag matches.. I have played a few.. 'reasonable judgement' to me can be quantified if you really want. Right now I'm thinking you hit 3 consecutive moves or 5.. whatever the number, and then you tag out... if your wrestler is on defense, look for the tag at the times you can. there's less freedom there so its important to go for it imo.
Its up to every promotor of course. doubt there's a perfect system. imagine you're on level 3 offense, in theory, you're one dice roll from ending the match so natuarally you'd be less likely to tag out if your partner is weaker... lots of scenarios lol

Thanks, Pete I haven't tried this idea yet but when a wrestler enters the bout, roll one die. The result is how many moves he/she must undertake before they can tag out.

A very good question! In my USWA and IPW, I typically picture the action being similar to real-life wrestling. So when it comes to tag matches, I tend to have the defensive wrestler take some punishment before rolling for a defensive tag, even if the opportunity for one came up sooner. I sort of picture it like the defensive wrestler taking a long time to make that dramatic hot tag. Lately, I have been rolling more on the first opportunities for defensive tags, especially for teams that would be considered tag experts.
Offensively, if one member of the team has the advantage with no reversals from the opponent for six or more moves, then I will usually tag the other partner.
Two years ago, we played some matches on the Uncharted Territory podcast. Chad chose a tag team match between the British Bulldogs and the Midnight Express of Eaton and Condrey. It was interesting to see how often Chad chose to have his guys tag compared to what I would have done.

Thanks Cory. I really enjoy the podcast. I like the 6+ on offense (obviously tag moves mandate it) & I typically go for it on defense just because you don’t have as much freedom. It’s toughest to decide when one guy is already pretty beat down.
Hey…quick question regarding the podcast. A while back someone brought up The Clazel Theater in Bowling Green, OH. I think it was regarding the big Rocky Horror Picture thing they used to do. Well, I grew up in Bowling Green! My mom & brother still live there, so I get back a few times a year. I have so many great childhood memories at the Clazel Theater! I think it’s a bar or brewery now. Anyway, ever since that episode I have meant to reach out about it. Cannot remember which member of the podcast had a connection. Anyway, please pass my message along to them, and on behalf of BG thanks for the shout out. Small world. Ha.

Solo play for me means putting myself in the heads of the wrestlers, so when it's logical for that wrestler to tag, I'll do it. That may change depending on the wrestler. Is he a showoff? Is he a coward? Are they tag team specialists? Are they two singles guys who don't have great tag team synergy? I take all of this into account.

Anyway, please pass my message along to them, and on behalf of BG thanks for the shout out. Small world. Ha. That was my comment! When I was about 10, my parents and I moved to Findlay, OH for our dad's job. Chad had graduated high school and stayed in Iowa to go to Iowa State. (He would, of course, spend some summers and other vacations in Ohio but didn't grow up there) Yes, the Clazel! Now the name comes back to me! We didn't get up to Bowling Green a lot but I remember that the Findlay newspaper ( The Courier) always had an ad for the showing of Rocky Horror. I was somewhat aware of what the movie was but didn't actually see it until near the end of high school. And unfortunately, I never got to see it at the Clazel. I bet that would have been fun! Not to go too far off topic but there was a truck stop near Bowling Green (south, I think) off I-75, probably closer to North Baltimore that served this dish called The Mess. Chad Olson, TDalton, our dad, and I stopped there in the middle of the night after having seen UFC IX in Detroit in '96. Great memories! And thanks so much for listening to the podcast!

During solo play when I am a neutral observer, on Offense I tag in and out whenever I feel like it and on Defense I attempt the tag whenever the wrestler on defense gets a (tag) to be consistent for both teams.
If I was to play competitively against somebody (or I guess in theory if I wanted to give an advantage to one tag team for storyline or booking purposes,) it would probably depend on the opponent's level of defense and which of my wrestlers had the corresponding better level of offense. For example with the new SAnitY cards, I would have Axel Tischer start the match as his Level 1 Offense has an automatic 3 tag but then if the opponent hit Level 2 Defense I would probably go with Big Damo on Level 2 Offense but if the opponent got to Level 3 Defense then I would go with Axel Tischer on Level 3 Offense (unless Big Damo has not yet hit his 1-time/match tag mechanic.)
Just in general, when I am playing competitively and on the rare occasions where I get to pick a wrestler, I sometimes look for a way to counter my opponent's particular defense. For example, at the online Fall 2020 convention, I won the Indies tournament to advance to the Finals where I took on the winner of the LOW tournament and for the Finals we each got to pick a wrestler from the brand of the tournament we won. My opponent who won the LOW tournament chose Vader. On Level 3 Defense, Vader only has 1 down-3 in addition to his PIN and 4 hurt 2s so I knew if I was in control of the match I might be spending alot of time on Level 2 Offense so from the Indie brand I chose Tyler Black's updated card as he has a 3 Add 1 on his Level 2 Offense. As expected I still lost the match, but not before I racked up some fatigue on Vader.

I just feel how the match is going and try and get a sense of the ebb and flow of the teams that are facing one another. I try to base their amount of tagging like their real life counterparts but for the most part I tag out offensively when it feels right and the wreslter who is getting the crap beat out of them will tag out when an opportunity presents itself that makes sense in the moment. In the end you really just kinda feel out where it would make sense and go with it.
