Unfortunately I found out some sad news last night that a beloved member of the Filsinger games community passed away this past week. Henry "Smoke" McNair was a mainstay at GalactiCons for a number of years along with his son Jaron, who many of us got to see grow up from a little kid to a great young man. Although we didn't usually see him on the boards, it was always a pleasure to catch up with Smoke every summer. That is when he was in between naps. Here is a link to Smoke's obituary: www.tributearchive.com/obituaries/32602753/henry-d-mcnairAlso for anyone interested Jaron passed along a link to the live stream of his funeral service happening at 10AM tomorrow August 10th: www.virtualvisions.media/perry-90

RIP Smoke, my friend. IB always appreciated when you visited when they were on their own at Galacticons.

Very sad news. Someone we all liked talking to at cons.

Damn really sad to hear this news. As someone who lost my dad when I was still young, my heart goes out to Jaron. I feel like our community is so specialized that it’s a gut punch to hear. RIP Smoke

Jim sent me this over the phone and figured I'd pop back in here to the boards.
This is sad.
I remember last time I saw him. I can't remember which year it was, because they have all been running together here lately, but it was when we were in that PA town on that corner restaurant (2019?). I checked in at the hotel and came downstairs to talk to some of the guys. I saw him checking in. He remembered me even though I only came to a handful of cons and we talked a bit and then I let him finish checking in. We talked a little more over that weekend, and it was funny. I saw Jaron at the bar drinking and went back to Smoke. I was like "Is that your son? Is that Jaron?" He was like "Yeah." I responded with "HOLY CRAP! Since when could he drink? What happened to that little boy?" We both had a laugh at that one! lol!
Anyways. I don't have as many memories as some of you who go a little futher back, but he was a part of the community and will be missed.
God speed and RIP Smoke!

This is the downside to building up lifelong friendships through gaming communities. The longer we are together the sooner we have to say goodbye.
Goodbye my friend.
See you one day at the big GCON in the sky.
