Nikolai Volkoff defeats Virgil with a throat drop on the ropes for the pinfall. Volkoff’s power advantage proved to be important in this match, as it countered much of Virgil’s offense. When Virgil finalyl got an advantage, and tossed Volkoff to the outside Nikolai managed to turn the situation around with a body slam onto the concrete floor. He used this momentum, and hit Virgil with a shoulder tackle, followed by a throat drop on the ropes to secure the victory.
Bobo Brazil defeats Ox Baker by pinfall with a Coco Butt. Brazil and Baker demonstrated the epitome of a back a forth matchup. Baker hit Brazil early in the match with his heart punch, but Brazil was able to recover quickly enough to avoid the pinfall. After that the two powerhouses traded blows with no one able to string a series of moves together. Finally, after using his agility advantage to help him take control of the match, Bobo was able to put Baker away with a pair of Coco Butts.
Greg Valentine defeats Koko B. Ware with a figure-four leglock. The Hammer took an early advantage in this one, and methodically wore down the energy of the birdman. Ware tried to take advantage of his quickness and speed, but the power of Valentine was too much, as he would routinely counter hip tosses and shoulder tackles from Koko. Finally, after some Valentine chops Greg managed to strap his Figure-Four Leglock on his opponent, who couldn’t withstand the immense pressure on his legs, and was forced to throw in the towel.
The Killer Bees defeat the Road Warriors by disqualification. Animal took control the early advantage in this match, and it became apparent this was not going to be about wrestling. While he sent Blair to the outside he went berserk. He used everything he could find to punish the Bee with, and Hawk joined in attacking Brunzell. Though they were disqualified the Road Warriors seemed content to destroy their opponents, sending a clear message to Race that he better be ready for their showdown at Legends of Wrestling.

Legends of Wrestling Raymond James Stadium Tampa, Fl
Flag Match: Nikolai Volkoff defeats hacksaw Jim Duggan by pinfall with a Backbreaker Drop. Volkoff and Duggan hit each other with a barrage of big time blows from the outset. Volkoff looked to put an early end to Duggan with a backbreaker drop, but didn’t connect well enough to keep Duggan down. Duggan finally took control with some powerful blows, but after tossing Nikolai into the turnbuckle, and charging after him, Duggan received a big time elbow in the face, and went down hard. Volkoff took the opportunity to hit Duggan with another backbreaker, this one putting Hacksaw down for the count. After the match Volkoff took his Russian flag, and began waving it in the air to an assortment of boos. Duggan, unwilling to accept this disgrace to Old Glory, grabbed his 2x4 and blindsided Nikolai, who had to be carried out of the ring on a stretcher, and rushed to the hospital. It looks as though Volkoff will be out of action for a little while after this beating. (5)
Nick Bockwinkel defeats Koko B Ware by submission with a Figure Four Leglock. Bockwinkel demonstrated why he is considered one of the finest technical wrestlers in the Association in his match-up against Ware tonight. Using everything from arm bars to abdominal stretches he kept Ware grounded, and wore him down before finally slapping the painful figure four leglock on the Birdman. Koko managed to break the hold once, getting to the ropes, but could not mount a comeback. Bockwinkel would not be deterred, placing the Figure Four on Ware again, this time in the middle of the ring.
The Midnight Express w/ Jim Cornette defeat the Dream Team w/ Capt. Lou Albano as Eaton pins Beefcake with a Veg-O-Matic. Early in the match Stan Lane was no match for The Hammer, who went to work on him, using his power to his advantage. Valentine managed to lock Lane in his figure four leglock on multiple occasions, but Cornette and Eaton both came to the aid of Lane, distracting Valentine into breaking the hold. Finally Lane managed to tag out to his partner Bobby Eaton, who just took over. He first hit valentine with a Veg-O-Matic, and after Beefcake tagged in, hit him with one as well. Lane managed to hold off the Hammer, as Eaton completed the pinfall.
Giant Baba defeats Bobo Brazil with a Neckbreaker Drop. Baba made quick work of Brazil. After Brazil evaded a Baba dropkick he sent the Giant into the turnbuckle. As Bobo followed him in, he was jarred with a vicious elbow from Baba. Baba then took the opportunity to hit his dazed opponent with a neckbreaker drop, from which Brazil couldn’t recover from quickly enough to break the 3 count.
Jimmy Snuka defeats Cowboy Bob Orton by a count of 2 falls to 1. In the first fall Orton took an early advantage with a big time piledriver. He then tossed Snuka out of the ring, but Snuka managed to take advantage of the opportunity sending Orton into the Ringpost. Snuka stepped in to stop the count, but as he stepped back to the outside he was blindsided by Orton, who attacked, slamming Snuka onto the floor, and then throwing him into the steps, and dropping him onto the steel barricade. The referee decided things had gone too far, disqualifying Orton. The second fall featured a plethora of back and forth action. Snuka even managed to connect on a Superfly leap, but the blow did not have its full effect on Orton. Later in the fall Snuka went for another Superfly leap, but Orton moved out of the way, taking command of the match after the Snuka miscue. After a piledriver Orton went up to the top rope and drilled Snuka with a falling kneedrop. He then lifted the Superfly up on the turnbuckle and finished off the fall with a Superplex. The third fall quickly turned into a brawl on the apron floor as Snuka manhandled Orton, using the ringpost and and even the corner of the ring to his advantage. He tossed a whipped Orton into the ring, and finished him off with a flying headbutt for the win.
Road to Gold Tournament Final for the MFWA Tag Team Championships The Valiants defeat Money Mountain as Jimmy Valiant pins Ted Dibiase with a Super Elbow. Money Mountain dominated the first 90% of the match, as Bundy quickly hit Valiant with a running power slam, and Dibiase came in and locked Jimmy in a Million Dollar Sleeper. Though Valiant was able to break out of the submission hold, Dibiase stayed on the offensive with a plethora of vertical suplexes. After a near fall, a frustrated Dibiase sent Jimmy out to the arena floor. The Million Dollar Man wasted too much time taunting his opponent, and the crowd; giving Valiant time to recover. When Dibiase finally followed him to the outside Jimmy surprised him, sending him into the steel ringpost. Given this second wind, he hurled Ted back into the ring and hit him with a Super Elbow. The stunned Dibiase was unable to beat the 3 count of the official, giving the Valiants the victory, and the MFWA Tag Team Championship (despite the fact that Johnny never entered the ring). After recovering to his feet Dibiase went on a verbal tyrade against “His worthless idiotic fat commoner of a partner.”
Buddy Rogers defeats Killer Kowalski with a Figure Four Grapevine. Kowalski and Rogers exchanged powerful attacks early on in the match. Kowalski used his power to hit Body Slams and Shoulder Breakers, while Rogers used his athleticism to hit the big man with Dropkicks. Eventually Kowalski used his brawling ability to take things to the outside and wear Rogers down. After the action returned to the ring Kowalski went to the top rope to try to finish off Rogers, but Buddy was able to counter by getting a knee into the Killer’s gut. He then took this opportunity to strap his devastating Figure Four Grapevine on Kowalski who was forced to tap out under the immense pressure on his legs.
MFWA World Champion Harley Race and the Iron Sheik defeat The Road Warriors as Race pins Hawk knocking him out with a knee to the skull. The Legends of Wrestling finale certainly lived up to its main event status. The four combatants worked each other over through this grueling tag competition. After some exchange it looked as though the Road Warriors would take away the victory as they managed to hit Harley Race with their devastating Doomsday Device. Race proved his toughness and iron chin as he managed to kick out of Animals pinfall attempt. Animal continued to work on Race and got another near fall with a big Power Slam. When Race finally managed to tag in the Iron Sheik the Road Warriors were placed on the defensive. Sheik placed Animal in a Camel Clutch, but Hawk was able to help Animal break the hold before Iron Sheik broke his back. The Iron Sheik continued wearing Animal down, leveling him with his loaded boot, before allowing the action to spill to the outside. Here the Road Warriors turned the match into a street brawl ganging up on the Iron Sheik and hitting him with anything they could find. At this point the official had the bell rung to announce The Road Warriors had been disqualified. Commissioner Rezin was unwilling to allow the match to end this way, coming down to ringside and ordering that the match continue. Hawk, who had come in for his weakened partner went to work on the Iron Sheik, wearing him down with a series of slams and suplexes. Sheik managed to fight back though, using his loaded boot again to injure his opponent. Once again the battle spilled out of the ring, and this time it was the Iron Sheik who took it to Hawk; once again the ref had enough, disqualifying the Iron Sheik for his use of a chair. Again the commish was forced to come to ringside to restart the match. The Iron Sheik went to work on Hawk, and then tagged Race back into the match. For a while it looked as though Race would be able to finish of the Road Warrior, but Hawk fought back; the superior athlete, he managed to counter several Race moves, overpowering and out moving the champion. Hawk then sent Race into the ropes, and tried to finish him off with a back-body drop, but Race managed to use excellent body control, hitting the unsuspecting opponent with a crushing knee into the cranium. Hawk, knocked unconscious by the vicious blow, was down for the count, and the Iron Sheik managed to prevent Animal from coming in to aid his partner as Race recorded the pinfall.

This rescent event was excellent!
I really liked the Flag Match and a great ending to that with Duggan laying out Volkoff!
Too bad Money Mountain didn't win, but a good showdown...

Friday Fury Conn Gymnasium; Temple Terrace, Fl
Jimmy Snuka defeats Virgil via pin with a Superfly Leap. Snuka made quick work of his opponent Virgil. Taking the early command with a dropkick and a backbreaker, the Superfly then went for a signature head butt; Virgil managed to counter it, however, with a kick to the stomach of Snuka. Trying to use his advantage Virgil then sent him into the ropes and set up to hit his opponent with a backdrop. Snuka used his tremendous athleticism to counter the attempt with a beautiful sunset flip. Though Virgil managed to kick out, Snuka took the opening to quickly scale the turnbuckle and catch his off balanced opponent with a Superfly Leap, leading to the 1-2-3 from the official. Sunka then calls out the entire Association, claiming that he is being overlooked. “I’m undefeated, and you keep sending these chumps to face me. I want my shot at the World Title. I am the man; you can’t stop me; you can’t hold me back. I’m coming!”
Ox Baker defeats Hacksaw Jim Duggan by pin. In a short match Duggan got an early near fall with a Tough Guy clothesline on Baker. Ox was able to quickly wrestle away control however, hitting Duggan with a big clothesline and a big back body drop. Duggan managed to escape the ring though, and as Baker followed him out Hacksaw slammed him hard onto the concrete floor. After bringing the match back to the ring, Duggan made a surprising decision to try to finish off the match with an attack from the top rope. Being unaccustomed to such aerial tactics Hacksaw took too long, giving Baker enough time to recover, bringing Duggan down from the turnbuckle with a vicious slam. Duggan couldn’t recover from the impact as Baker got the victory.
So Flow defeats The Killer Bees as Brazil pins Brunzell. Bobo went to work early on in this contest, essentially turning the match into a singles competition. He hit Brunzell with a barrage of Bobo Body Slams, Shoulder Breakers, and Coco Butts. Blair had no impact on the match, as he was never able to tag in, and while Ware never officially entered as well, he managed to hold BBB at bay when he tried to come in to interfere. Brazil completely overpowered Brunzell, who finally couldn’t break the pin count after a big shoulder breaker.
Iron Sheik defeats King Kong Bundy with a sidewinder slam. Bundy, being “forced” into this match to prove his worth to The Million Dollar man, determined to make this a non match. Basically he allowed Iron Sheik to hit him with a modified sidewalk slam, and did nothing to break the pinfall; demonstrating to Dibiase that he has to prove his worth to no one.

Saturday Supercard Florida State Fairgrounds Tampa, Fl
The Road Warriors defeat the Dream Team as Hawk pins Valentine after a double clothesline. Hawk and Animal showed a combination of both superior athleticism (mostly from Hawk) as well as Power (from both Warriors), and used these abilities to control a majority of the match. After the Warriors took turns beating on both Beefcake and Valentine, the latter managed to put some pressure on Hawk. He was able to counter an attempted backdrop from Hawk with a knee to the head. Even this couldn’t hold Hawk down for long though, who regained the upper hand, and put the Hammer away with the assistance of his partner Animal on a big time double clothesline. Valentine was seeing stars after the blow, and Hawk gained an easy pinfall.
Ted Dibiase defeats Cowboy Bob Orton with a Million Dollar Sleeper. Dibiase never let Orton gain any momentum over the course of the match, always having an answer for the Cowboys offensive attempts. Dibiase used an nice array of submission holds to wear his opponent down, placing him in everything from sleeper holds to a figure-four leglock. Finally, The Million Dollar Man used his famous Million Dollar Dream to wear the last bit of fight out of Orton. Cowboy Bob was able to force a break of the Dream once, but Dibiase wasted no time replacing the hold on his weakened opponent. This time Orton lost consciousness, forcing the official to stop the match, and award a submission victory to Ted Dibiase.
MFWA Tag Team Championship Match MFWA Tag Team Champs The Valiants defeat The Midnight Express as Johnny Valiant pins Stan Lane after a Spinning Neckbreaker. In a match that featured frequent tags and very little mounting offense it was not surprising the victory came suddenly. Eaton and Johnny V went at each other early on, and Valiant put the pressure on early with a scoop body slam, and from that point no one gained a major advantage until Johnny used a thumb in the eye to temporarily blind Stan Lane, distracting him enough to offer Valiant the opportunity to finish him quickly with a Spinning Neckbreaker. Lane was covered for the 3 count as the Valiants retained their Tag Team Championships.
Nick Bockwinkel defeats Killer Kowalski with a Bockwinkel Sleeper. Bockwinkel used his phenomenal technical ability to put the pressure on Kowalski from the outset. Using a nice arm bar, a gut wrench and a brutal running clothesline, Bockwinkel set up Killer for his Figure Four Leglock. Kowalski used his power to break the hold, and managed to counter Nick’s offense with a shoulder breaker and a stomach claw. Kowalski then tried to turn the match into a brawl, sending Bockwinkel to the outside, but the Californian was up to the challenge, catching his unsuspecting opponent with a chair in the back. The referee decided to let the action continue, however, presumably due to Kowalski being the one to take the match outside. Bockwinkel then used an abdominal stretch to wear Kowalski down, and a back suplex to put him on the mat. It looked as if Kowalski was done for, as Bockwinkel reapplied his painful Figure-Four, but Killer demonstrated his tremendous resolve, fighting to the ropes to force a break of the hold. In the end though, Kowalski was too worn down, and Bockwinkel finished him off with his patented Bockwinkel Sleeper.
MFWA World Championship Match MWFA World Champion Harley Race defeats Buddy Rogers by pinfall with a back suplex. The champion Race and the challenger Rogers put on a show for the ages in the main event of Supercard. Both competitors unloaded on each other throughout the entire course of this lengthy match. Rogers used his tremendous array of moves to hit explode on the champion. It looked as though Race may be down after a serious of dropkicks and an atomic drop, but the champion was not going to give up his crown so easily. Race finally put the pressure on the Nature Boy using every part of his body as a weapon. He hit the challenger with knees, elbows, and his head, gaining a near-fall with a diving head butt. After these attacks on the challenger Race nearly put the match away hitting Rogers with a powerful Piledriver. The challenger somehow managed to kick out of all of these assaults, continuing his pursuit of the championship. After more back and forth action Race used a beautiful sunset flip to counter an attempted back body drop from Rogers, and once again narrowly missed the victory. Buddy mounted one final offensive, but was unable to place his Figure Four Grapevine on Race, who seemingly was not going to succumb to anything less. Once Race regained the edge Rogers was too worn down to be able to withstand the final attacks of the champion, and finally fell victim to a back suplex, ensuring Race the victory, as well as his crown.

Rise to Riches Tropicana Field St. Petersburg, Fl
Rise to Riches Tournament for the MFWA National Championship-First Round Greg Valentine defeats Buddy Rogers with a Figure 4 Leglock Valentine really shocked the MFWA with his ability to match the wrestling of the heavy favorite Buddy Rogers. In this battle of the Figure Four’s it was surprisingly the Hammer’s hold that won the match. Rogers put a little pressure on Valentine with a piledriver, but Greg would not be deterred. Even after Buddy broke free from his Leglock initially, Valentine kept the offensive and was able to reapply his signature move in the middle of the ring, forcing the submission from Rogers. Valentine will move into the quarterfinals of the Rise to Riches Tournament, where he will face the winner of the upcoming match between Virgil and Giant Baba
Rise to Riches Tournament for the MFWA National Championship-First Round Giant Baba defeats Virgil with a Neckbreaker Drop. Virgil was completely outmatched from the outset of this composition. The 6’10” Baba demonstrated not only superior power overcoming attempted punches and kicks, but also a greater level of athleticism, using excellent body control to avoid attempted dropkicks from his smaller opponent. In the end a Baba piledriver, followed by a Neckbreaker Drop were too much for Virgil to overcome. The victory by pinfall moves Giant Baba into the quarterfinals of the tournament where he will face Greg Valentine.
Rise to Riches Tournament for the MFWA National Championship-First Round Iron Sheik advances as Nikolai Volkoff is unable to compete. Sheik will face the winner of the Baker/Dibiase matchup.
Rise to Riches Tournament for the MFWA National Championship-First Round Ox Baker defeats Ted Dibiase with a Heart Punch. The Million Dollar Man took an early advantage hitting Baker with a knee lift, a back body drop, and a fist drop, but nothing could keep Baker down. After avoiding a second fist drop from Dibiase, Baker hit his opponent with a combination of powerful attacks. He used a shoulder breaker, and a neckbreaker to wear Dibiase down, before finishing him off with a pair of Heart Punches. After the official counted the fall Baker began celebrating his upcoming match with Iron Sheik in the next round, while Dibiase showed very little signs of movements. Parametics were called in and Dibiase had to be carted away from the arena. It looks as though he will be forced out of action for a little while.
Rise to Riches Tournament for the MFWA National Championship-First Round Koko B. Ware defeats Brutus Beefcake with a Ghostbuster. Beefcake and Ware went back and forth early on in this match, with Brutus looking for an early victory, and nearly gaining one with a sleeper. Midway through the match, though, Ware was able to counter a charging Beefcake with a knee, and from this point on gained control of the match. He hit Brutus with a combination of high risk moves, including a top rope dropkick, a couple flying headbutts, a cross bodyblock, and finally finished his opponent off with a pair of Ghostbusters. Ware stays alive in the tournament, and will face either Orton or Brazil in the next round.
Rise to Riches Tournament for the MFWA National Championship-First Round Cowboy Bob Orton defeats Bobo Brazil by disqualification. After dominating much of the match, Brazil put a tremendous amount of pressure on Orton, hitting him with a pair of Coco Butts. The resilient Orton was not willing to go away though, escaping to the outside of the ring. Seemingly frustrated, Brazil followed him out attacking his opponent on the arena floor. The usually respectable Brazil refused to acknowledge repeated warning by the match official to bring things back to the inside, leaving the official to disqualify him from the bout. A battered and bruised Orton will move into the tournament quarterfinals to face the Birdman Koko B. Ware.
Rise to Riches Tournament for the MFWA National Championship-First Round Killer Kowalski defeats Nick Bockwinkel by Countout. In a rematch of the battle at Saturday’s Supercard Kowalski took the opportunity to exact revenge on Bockwinkel. The Killer made quick work of his opponent, using a big Bombs Away to stun his opponent. Kowalski then sent Nick to the outside, where he crushed his opponent with a deadly piledriver onto the concrete floor. Bockwinkel could not beat the officials 10 count, and Kowalski was awarded the countout victory, and a trip into the next round of the Rise to Riches Tournament, where he will face the winner of the battle between King Kong Bundy and Hacksaw Jim Duggan.
Rise to Riches Tournament for the MFWA National Championship-First Round Hacksaw Jim Duggan defeats King Kong Bundy with a tough guy clothesline. Duggan shocked the world with an incredibly tough victory over the mountain of the MFWA. Bundy hit Duggan with his powerful Avalanche, but Duggan somehow managed to kick out of the pinfall of the big man. A stunned Bundy spent too much time complaining to the official, and allowed Duggan to recover. Hacksaw used this opportunity to hit King Kong with a Tough Guy clothesline, and uncharacteristically climbed to the top rope to hit Bundy with a cross body block. Though Bundy evaded defeat by kicking out of Duggan’s pin, he was still clearly out of it, leaving Duggan an opportunity to put him away with another Tough Guy clothesline. Duggan’s victory sends him into a match against another giant Killer Kowalski with a spot in the tournament semifinals on the line.
The Midnight Express defeat the Killer Bees as Jim Brunzell is counted out. Bobby Eaton did tremendous work against both Bees, who appeared overmatched from the start. Early on Lane hit Blair with an enzuigiri, before tagging in Eaton who followed this attack with a beautiful cross-body block off the top rope. Blair managed to tag in Brunzell, whose fate wasn’t any better. After warring Jim down Eaton drilled him with a Veg-O-Matic. Blair managed to come in to prevent the pin, but while the official was distracted, Eaton cleared him out of the ring, where Lane hit him with a Superkick. Brunzell was unable to recover from these blows, and could not beat the count, as the Midnight Express earned the countout victory.
Rise to Riches Tournament for the MFWA National Championship-Quarterfinals Giant Baba defeats Greg Valentine by Disqualification. Valentine and Baba went back and forth at each other early on, with neither willing to take any major risk. After a while of feeling each other out Babe eventually took control, countering an attempted scoop slam from his opponent, and hitting the Hammer with a tremendous Baba Chop. Valentine fled the ring, hoping to prevent the Giant from building on his offense. Baba, refusing to be deterred, followed him to the outside, but was met by a prepared Valentine who tossed Baba over the railing, taking the fight to the crowd. As the two battled through the crowd the official called for the bell. The crowd, expecting the result to be a double countout or dq, was stunned when the ring announcer stated that Greg Valentine had been disqualified. The official stated later that he had given the DQ due to Valentines role in turning the match into a Brawl. The controversial victory earns Giant Baba a spot in the semifinals, were he awaits the winner of the upcoming battle between the Iron Sheik and Ox Baker.
Rise to Riches Tournament for the MFWA National Championship-Quarterfinals The Iron Sheik defeats Ox Baker via submission to the Camel Clutch. These two mammoths hit each other with some powerful blows, but in the end it was Iron Sheik’s superior agility that helped him earn the victory. Baker tried took control with a couple of powerful moves, using a neckbreaker and clothesline to his advantage. Sheik managed to counter a shoulder tackle though, neutralizing the match. Baker tried a reverse chinlock to retake the advantage, but Sheik managed to counter. Iron Sheik used his advantage to wear Ox down with a pair of sleeper holds. As Baker began losing consciousness Sheik followed him to the mat, placing his Camel Clutch on his hapless opponent, earning the submission victory. Sheik will move forward to face Giant Baba in the tournament semifinals.
Rise to Riches Tournament for the MFWA National Championship-Quarterfinals Cowboy Bob Orton defeats Koko B. Ware after he is knocked out on the ringpost. Orton and Ware had a solid battle, with a lot of nice reversals, but little offensive flow. Orton, who was clearly injured at the hands of Brazil had the first major opportunity, countering an attempted back drop with a knee to the head. He was unable to capitalize on the dazed state of the birdman though, and Koko took over command. Using a pair of Flying Headbutts Ware put the pressure on Cowboy, but when Koko charged after his opponent, whom he had thrown into the turnbuckle, Orton dodged, and Ware flew into the turnbuckle, hitting his head on the steel ringpost. Orton easily covered the confused Birdman, earning a gutsy win, and along with it a ticket to the semifinals.
Rise to Riches Tournament for the MFWA National Championship-Quarterfinals Killer Kowalski defeats Hacksaw Jim Duggan via pinfall. Killer Kowalski abused Duggan early in the match hitting him with a shoulder breaker and getting a near fall with his Bombs away. He continued to attack with another Bombs away, and a giant swing, but could not put Hacksaw away. Duggan fought his way back, using an assortment of wild haymakers to get Kowalski off balance. Jim then used a Flying Spear hurting his opponent. Duggan though, out of possible frustration decided to go to the top rope. As he reached the top turnbuckle Duggan gave the fans a thumbs up and bellowed out a big “HOOOO” before attempting to jump onto his fallen opponent. The wasted time cost Duggan though, as Kowalski was able to move out of the way. It looked as though Hacksaw may have twisted his knee on the way down. Kowalski rolled over to cover the injured competitor as the referee counted to 3. The final four of the Rise to Riches tournament are locked in, as Giant Baba will face the Iron Sheik, and then Cowboy Bob Orton will meet Killer Kowalski.
MFWA Tag Team Championship Match MFWA Tag Team Champions the Valiants defeat The Road Warriors as Jimmy Valiant pinned Animal after a Super Elbow. Jimmy and Johnny demonstrated an excellent tag team wrestling, putting on a clinic for those wanting to learn the trade. Though the Road Warriors are the superior athletes, they could not match the Valiant’s execution, position, and in ring tactics. The champions used tremendous teamwork to isolate either Hawk or Animal in their half of the ring, and when they got into any trouble made quick tags to get in the fresh teammate. After some exciting action Johnny put the pressure on Hawk, using a Spinning Neckbreaker to wear on the challenger. Hawk did manage to tag out to Animal (The Road Warriors only tag of the match). As he battled, the Valiants did a great job of cutting the ring in half. After executing a double clothesline Jimmy Valiant finished of the challengers with a Super Elbow as Johnny held off a charging Hawk. The victory ensured the Valiants would continue their reign as the MFWA Tag Team Champions.
Rise to Riches Tournament for the MFWA National Championship-Semifinals Iron Sheik defeats Giant Baba as Baba submits to a Boston Crab. Giant Baba really battled hard, but Iron Sheik had too many weapons for the big man to deal with. Iron Sheik hit him with pretty much everything in his arsenal, from throat chops to suplexes; his painful Camel Clutch was even applied early in the match. Baba kept fighting back though, putting pressure on his opponent with big moves including Russian leg sweeps and his Baba Chop. Iron Sheik really wore Baba down with repeated kicks, from a boot that the Giant later claimed to be loaded. It looked as though the match might reach the time limit, resulting in the elimination of both combatants from the tournament, until the Iranian finally managed to counter an attempted knee lift, placing his opponent in a Boston Crab. Baba clearly had nothing left, and was forced to tap out. Iron Sheik moves into the main event to face either Cowboy Bob Orton or Killer Kowalski in the tournament finals for the MWFA National Championship.
Rise to Riches Tournament for the MFWA National Championship-Semifinals Killer Kowalski defeated Cowboy Bob Orton with a Claw Hold. Orton was clearly still showing the effects of his battle with Brazil, and never really stood a chance in this match. Kowalski locked his Claw Hold on Orton early in the match, but the determined Orton fought his way to the ropes to break the hold. Later, Kowalski hit him with a phenomenal Cross-Body Block off the top rope, but Orton just managed to kick out of the pin. It appeared to be over when the Killer placed the Cowboy in a brutal Stomach Claw, but unbelievably Orton reached into his reserve and managed to fight to the ropes, forcing the hold to be broken. Kowalski just never resented though, refusing to give Orton any opportunity to gain the upper hand. He finally placed his beaten opponent in his Claw Hold once again, and Orton couldn’t overcome the pain, finally tapping out under the immense pressure. The submission earned Kowalski the spot opposite Iron Sheik in the tournament championship.
MFWA World Championship Match Jimmy Snuka defeated MFWA World Champion Harley Race by Disqualification. Snuka talked his way into this match, claiming to be the only deserving challenger for the title. With the flow of the match, though, he had very little chance to win the title. From the very outset of the match the two men battled to the outside of the ring, and seemingly would only occasionally step back in to the ring to break the officials count. The two men used the ring post and the steps, as well as the guard rail as weapons to try to tear each other apart. Finally Race decided to take things a step further, using a ringside chair to crush Snuka in the head. The official, although lenient toward the rules for most of the title match, had no choice but to disqualify the champion. However, since the title can only change hands on the result of a pinfall or a submission, Harley Race held on to the MFWA World Championship.
Rise to Riches Final: MFWA National Championship Match Killer Kowalski defeats Iron Sheik with a Claw Hold In the culmination of the Rise to Riches event Killer Kowalski showed the same dominant focus he had demonstrated in each of his previous 3 matches. The Iron Sheik seemed to be the logical favorite in the match, both because of his coming through the top half of the bracket, as well as his first round bye; and while he was able to mount some offense, Kowalski always had an answer. Killer placed him in the dreaded Claw Hold early in the match, and though Sheik escaped, the tone of the match was established. After continuing to hold a small edge in the back and forth battle; Kowalski placed his vicious stomach claw on his opponent. The Iron Sheik managed to get to the ropes to force the hold to be broken, but he was too worn down to be able to mount any offense, and had no fight left once Kowalski, for the second time in the match, placed him in his Claw Hold. As the Iron Sheik submitted, Kowalski realized his goal, in the form of the Riches of the MFWA National Championship.
