CHIKARA - King of Trios - Night Three - The Asylum Arena - Philadelphia, PA (Card #810)

1) KOT Semi-Final Round: Mike Quackenbush, Colt Cabana, & Brutus Beefcake defeated F.I.S.T.:
An explosive open to the semi-final round saw the popular trio of “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush, Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana, & Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake go against F.I.S.T. (Icarus, Chuck Taylor, & Johnny Gargano). Quackenbush nearly won it in the opening moments when he caught Icarus with Quackendriver III for a big near fall. That set the pace for a great bout that saw both teams come close to victory several times. Icarus would bounce back hitting the Blu-Ray on Beefcake for a near fall that was broken up by Quackenbush. A key moment for F.I.S.T. saw Taylor catch Quackenbush with the turnbuckle power bomb followed by a jumping big boot for a near fall. Quackenbush later caught Taylor in the Chikara Special going for the submission but he got to the ropes for a break. Cabana went up top hitting a moonsault on Gargano for a big near fall late in the bout. The finish saw Cabana nail Taylor with a Flying Hip Attack setting it up for Beefcake who applied the Sleeper Hold on the “Kentucky Gentleman” to score a submission victory and send his team to the finals. Beefcake then added insult to injury by cutting off some of Taylor’s hair while Quackenbush and Cabana drove Icarus and Gargano out of the ring.

2) KOT Semi-Final Round: Jigsaw, Hallowicked, & Frightmare defeated Vin Gerard & The Roughnecks:
The other half of the semi-final saw the popular trio of Jigsaw, Hallowicked, & Frightmare take on Vin Gerard & The Roughnecks (Brodie Lee & Grizzly Redwood) with the latter team having The Dark Menace in their corner. Gerard was on the defensive early as Jigsaw outwrestled him at every turn. Lee helped turn things around for his team and blasted Hallowicked with the Big Boot for a near fall. Lee was very impressive during his time in hitting the Brodie Bomb and applying a powerful bearhug among other moves. Another near fall for the rudos team came when Gerard nailed Jigsaw with a running high knee. Things were looking bad for Frightmare at one point as Lee had him beaten down but he managed to escape the ring which is a tag under the lucha libre tag team rules used in CHIKARA. Jigsaw entered and took the fight to the larger Lee before surprising him with a Brainbuster to score the pin. The crowd erupted in cheers as Jigsaw, Hallowicked, and Frightmare advanced to meet Mike Quackenbush, Colt Cabana, & Brutus Beefcake in an all tecnico final.

3) 34-Person Battle Royal: Soldier Ant eliminated 2 Cold Scorpio to win:
In what is becoming a yearly tradition during King of Trios, a multi-person Battle Royal was ordered involving everyone not scheduled for a match on Night Three. In this case it was thirty-four participants featuring such stars as Rob Van Dam, Tursas, The Colony (Fire Ant, Soldier Ant, & Green Ant), Johnny Saint, Sabu, Claudio Castagnoli, and even SHIMMER stars Sara Del Ray, Daizee Haze, and Thunderkitty. Things got off to a wild start as The Obariyon accidentally eliminated Kodama when trying to save him from being eliminated by Shane Storm. Moments later it was Storm dumping out Obariyon leaving The Batiri members frustrated. The women scored two eliminations during the match as Haze ousted Scott “Jagged” Parker of 3.0 and Thunderkitty tossed out Jakob Hammermeier. Thunderkitty had the most impressive run of the SHIMMER stars before being dumped out at number twenty-five by Ophidian. It was Ophidian that scored the funniest elimination when he got Dragon Dragon in a Gannosuke Clutch and accidentally removed his head and then tossed him out as he attempted to put it back on. The final four came down to Johnny Saint, 2 Cold Scorpio, Rob Van Dam, and CHIKARA’s own Soldier Ant. After Saint was dumped out by Soldier Ant, it was Scorpio eliminating RVD. That led to Soldier Ant surprising Scorpio with the saluting headbutt knocking the GWA star over the top rope to pick up the victory.

4) Virgil defeated Archibald Peck by Count Out:
A grudge match saw Archibald Peck, accompanied by Veronica, face off against “Wrestling Superstar” Virgil of ASW. This came about after Virgil abandoned Peck and Jakob Hammermeier on Night One of KOT leaving their team at a three-on-two disadvantage. Peck-N-Hammer lost that bout to Vin Gerard & The Roughnecks and Peck was understandably livid over that turn of events. He went into this match with revenge on his mind but that was a mistake as Virgil used his power advantage to dominate “Marchie Archie”. He locked on the Cobra Clutch with Peck barely getting to the ropes for a save. Veronica got involved to break up another application of the hold but Virgil kept up his assault. He eventually tossed Peck out of the ring and laid him out with a series of bodyslams resulting in a count out victory.

5) Chris Hero defeated Mr. Touchdown:
Another grudge match saw Mr. Touchdown (Mark Angelosetti) of The Throwbacks take on ROH star Chris Hero, a member of the Kings of Wrestling. Mr. Touchdown has been on edge getting into it with both Dasher Hatfield and Sugar Dunkerton following losses in the opening round of KOT as well as to the Kings of Wrestling. He was particularly upset about being excluded as Hatfield and Dunkerton competed in the tag match against Hero and Claudio Castagnoli and challenged Hero after The Throwbacks lost that match. He was hoping to prove a point here and dominated early including hitting the Dogpile and then surprising Hero with a flying bodypress off of the top rope for a near fall. Hero gained control after executing a Cravate Buster and had Mr. Touchdown in a bad way. Dunkerton ventured down to ringside to offer support to Mr. Touchdown but the two began arguing. That distraction allowed Hero to slip a foreign object into his elbow pad and he blasted Mr. Touchdown with a Loaded Rolling Elbow to score the pin. It was a bitter defeat for Mr. Touchdown who argued with Dunkerton post-match until Hatfield ran down to again get in between the two trying to prevent it from getting physical. He succeeded on this occasion but how much longer can this tension in The Throwbacks continue?

6) Rey De Voladores Finals: Tyler Black defeated Gran Akuma:
The all important finals of the Rey De Voladores tournament saw CHIKARA star Gran Akuma take on ROH star Tyler Black, a member of the Kings of Wrestling. The winner would be in line for a shot at the Young Lions Cup held by Frightmare so there was a lot at stake besides company pride. This was a great bout with some nice back and forth exchanges between the two. Black took out Akuma with a suicide dive midway through and then caught him with God’s Last Gift for a big near fall. The tide turned when Akuma hit a rolling sole butt and then executed the Tenchi Crash but the pin was broken up as both Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli ran down to ringside. It was Hero distracting the referee while Castagnoli reached in and punched Akuma in the head. The Osirian Portal (Amasis & Ophidian), who teamed with Akuma in the KOT, then ran down and fought Hero and Castagnoli to the back. Akuma rallied and hit a second Tenchi Crash but Black kicked out just before the three count. The turning point came when Black caught Akuma up top and executed a superplex. A short time later he executed a standing shooting star press and then caught Akuma with a perfectly executed Enzuigiri to score the pin. It was a huge win for Black who will return to CHIKARA to challenge Frightmare for the YLC.

7) 12-Large Grand Championship - Falls Count Anywhere Match: Eddie Kingston defeated Larry Sweeney to win the title:
The long awaited rematch between the “War King” Eddie Kingston and defending champion “Sweet n’ Sour” Larry Sweeney for the 12-Large Grand Championship was held under Falls Count Anywhere rules. Sweeney had been ducking the rematch with Kingston until he lost his position as Director of Fun allowing Colt Cabana to replace him and order this match. Sweeney was also sent on an “all expenses paid vacation to beautiful suburban Richfield, OH” by Cabana allowing him to think about his fate which was this rematch with the “War King”. Kingston dominated early winning out in a Chop Battle and scoring back-to-back near falls with a Lariat and a half-nelson suplex. Sweeney struck back hitting the 68’ Comeback Special and the 12 Large Elbow Drop but Kingston kicked out at two. A missed corner charge by Sweeney saw Kingston execute a roll-up for another near fall. The action later moved to the outside where Sweeney laid out Kingston with a piledriver on the floor and then slammed him into the announce table. Sweeney had things going his way but then made a mistake by climbing the ropes only to have Kingston pick him off with a bodyslam. Moments later it was Kingston hitting the Backfist to the Future on Sweeney to score the pin and regain the title.

8) KOT Final Round: Jigsaw, Hallowicked, & Frightmare defeated Mike Quackenbush, Colt Cabana, & Brutus Beefcake to win the tournament:
Ring announcer Gavin Loudspeaker had the honor of introducing the participants for the King of Trios finals as “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush, Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana, and Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake took on Jigsaw, Hallowicked, & Frightmare. The all tecnicos final was officiated by Senior Referee Bryce Remsburg who did a nice job of gathering the six men in mid ring to go over the rules of the match. All six then shook hands to big cheers from the crowd and the finals of the fourth annual King of Trios event under the LOW banner was underway. Early action had the crowd in hysterics as Quackenbush and Jigsaw went into a slow motion battle that saw Cabana join in on the fun doing a Billy Goat’s Curse in slow mo. When things picked up it got real serious with both sides scoring a slew of near falls. A big one came when Quackenbush hit the Jig N’ Tonic on Hallowicked but Frightmare made the save. Moments later it was Hallowicked and Frightmare combining on the Headless Horseman on Quackenbush for a big near fall. As the battle continued it was Frightmare going for a top rope dive but Cabana moved and executed a cradle hold for a near fall. Cabana then laid out Frightmare with a top rope fireman’s drop and made the tag to Beefcake. The longtime LOW star out of San Francisco, CA, used his size and power to dominate but then both men went down from a double clothesline. Frightmare recovered first and he nailed Beefcake with Kneecolepsy, a standing moonsault double knee to the chest, to score the pin as Jigsaw and Hallowicked prevented Quackenbush and Cabana from making the save. It was a great end to the tournament and the SRO crowd cheered as Jigsaw, Hallowicked, and Frightmare were declared the winners of King of Trios.

What a great KoT with Jig, Hallow & Fright to secure the tournament, plus it's funny seeing Kingston beating Sweeney for the 12-Large Title. I also liked that Soldier Ant won the 34 person Battle Royal...

Thanks for the comments on KOT guys, it was really fun putting that together and then rolling it out. I liked that it came down to an all tecnicos final. That Battle Royal was a beast to play, Crimson, but the finish was fun with Soldier Ant coming out on top. I am on a little break but hope to have another show posted soon. LOW All-Star Wrestling (Episode 40) - WMC-TV5 Studios - Memphis, TN (Card #811)

Announcers Lance Russell and Dave Brown opened the broadcast welcoming the studio and home audience to the fortieth edition of LOW All-Star Wrestling. They then threw it to a highlight package from the CHIKARA King of Trios tournament (Card# 808-810 in Philadelphia, PA) noting the big victory by Jigsaw, Hallowicked, and Frightmare in the finals. Russell said that King of Trios always features great action and this year was no exception. He then discussed the opening match on the program which would feature Curt Hennig defending the LOW Tex-Arkana Television title against “The Shooter” Brent Albright of the GWA. Brown noted that it was a rematch from Mexico City, Mexico (Card #787) where Hennig narrowly retained the championship losing via disqualification. Russell said that another great match taking place would be a special 10-Man Battle Royal featuring the stars of ASW.

LR: “Who-kay we have a jam packed broadcast today and I’m going to throw it on over to Dave to get this one started. Take it over partner.”

DB: “Thanks Lance and besides the aforementioned bouts we have House of Humperdink members Johnny Valentine & Ox Baker in tag team action, Dick Hutton and former LOW World Heavyweight champion “The Solid Man” William Muldoon in for singles bouts, exclusive interviews with Bob Roop and the tag team of Larry Zbyszko & John Pesek, plus the Naptown Dragons on hand. I see that ring announcer Gary Michael Cappetta is ready for the introductions so let’s get this one started with championship action.”

1) LOW Tex-Arkana Television title: Brent Albright defeated Curt Hennig© by DQ:
It was like déjà vu as Curt Hennig defended the LOW Tex-Arkana Television title against “The Shooter” Brent Albright as a technicality once again led to Albright getting the win but not the title. Early action saw Hennig catch Albright with the Hennig Plex before a big near fall that appeared to be a three count. Hennig protested the count and Albright capitalized coming back with an Exploder suplex. The tide would turn several times from there including Hennig scoring another near fall with a running knee lift. Albright then picked Hennig off of the top rope with a bodyslam and locked on the Crowbar going for the submission but the champion made it to the ropes for a break. The two wound up battling to the outside where Hennig sent Albright head first into the ring post resulting in a snake eyes disqualification decision call by the referee. Hennig again argued with the official but it was Albright who got another big win over the champion.

2) Johnny Valentine & Ox Baker defeated Heartbreak Express:
The cult favorite Heartbreak Express (Fabulous Phil Davis & Superstar Sean Davis) took on House of Humperdink members Johnny Valentine & Ox Baker. Sir Oliver Humperdink visited the announce desk to talk with Lance Russell & Dave Brown regarding the upcoming 12-Man Steel Cage match on an SWA card in Columbia, SC (Card #814) where the House of Humperdink will oppose a team lead by Blackjack Mulligan. As the action progressed Valentine battered both men with elbows and forearms. An exchange with Baker saw him rough up Sean on the outside before leveling him with the Heart Punch to score the pin. The devastating blow left Sean in a bad way and both Phil and the referee called for medics to check on him. A smiling Baker and Valentine joined Humperdink as the prone Sean was carried off on a stretcher. Baker also threatened to use the Heart Punch on both Russell and Brown but Humperdink and Valentine took him to the back.

●Sean Davis was diagnosed with chest pains due to the Heart Punch delivered by Ox Baker and will miss several weeks of action. Phil Davis was upset over the result of the devastating blow and returned to the studio to briefly discuss things with Lance Russell. He said that the move should be barred but since it isn’t it was a clean blow and he can’t blame Baker for using it. He did say that when Sean is cleared to return the Heartbreak Express will have to get back on track and that if there is a chance he will seek a match with Baker down the line. That led to Baker coming out and confronting Davis but before things could get out of hand he was again led off by Johnny Valentine and Sir Oliver Humperdink. Russell said that Baker is “a few decks short of a full load” and wished Sean a quick recovery.

Interview – Bob Roop:
Lance Russell welcomed SWA star Bob Roop, the winner of the PWI Invitational Cup tournament at WrestleCade VIII (Card #800 in Atlanta, GA), out to ringside to a nice ovation from the studio audience. Roop said that winning the PWI Cup before an SRO crowd at the Georgia Dome was the greatest accomplishment thus far in his career in LOW. He gave credit to his opponent in the finals, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, and said that next up is a shot at the LOW World Heavyweight title. Russell noted that indeed Roop would be facing Lou Thesz for the championship on the next SWA card in Columbia, SC (Card #814). He then threw it to a pre-taped interview with another SWA star, Magnum T.A., a former LOW World Heavyweight champion and a good friend of Roop. Magnum wished Roop well in his bout with Thesz and said that no matter who wins he hopes to challenge them for the title down the line. Roop said that Magnum is a first class athlete and that should he beat Thesz for the title he will consider Magnum the first in line for a title shot. Russell went to ask another question when suddenly the two were interrupted by “Nature Boy” Buddy Rogers and his manager “Elegant” Eddie Fyne. Rogers was not scheduled to appear on the broadcast and Russell let him know it. Fyne then grabbed the mic from Russell and said that Roop needs to “get to the back of the line” as the “Nature Boy” is the true number one contender. Roop took exception to that and stood toe-to-toe with Rogers as LOW officials stepped in to prevent it from getting physical. Roop then challenged Rogers to face him on the next broadcast of ASW and should he win the LOW World Heavyweight title from Thesz he will make it a title match. Rogers and Fyne immediately accepted the challenge and Russell said that it will be a great match for television whether a championship is on the line or not.

3) Dick Hutton defeated Ken Doane:
Bob Roop remained in the studio and joined Lance Russell & Dave Brown on commentary for this match between NWC star Dick Hutton and Ken Doane. Roop said that like himself Hutton was an outstanding amateur and he looked forward to seeing how Doane fared against him. Doane recently joined the ASW roster after a long run with the AWE. He made a good accounting of himself scoring a near fall with the Sky High Leg Drop and also survived the Abdominal Stretch by getting to the ropes for a break. Hutton rebounded with the Cowboy backbreaker and a sleeper hold before executing a Counter Sunset Flip off of the ropes to score the pin.

4) 10-Man ASW Battle Royal for $1,000: S.D. Jones eliminated Les Thatcher to win:
A special 10-Man Battle Royal involving the stars of ASW with $1,000 as the top prize came down to three men – S.D. Jones, Johnny Rodz, and Les Thatcher. It was the popular Jones going toe-to-toe with his old rival Rodz as Thatcher, having just ousted “The Genius” Lanny Poffo, waited in the wings. The two wound up in a top rope situation with Jones gaining control and hitting a Headbutt knocking Rodz out of the ring. Thatcher then went at Jones and the two had a nice exchange before it was Jones with another Headbutt. That rocked Thatcher and Jones followed by tossing him over the top rope to win the money. The studio audience cheered the victory by Jones who was congratulated post-match by Thatcher along with announcers Lance Russell & Dave Brown.

5) William Muldoon defeated Savage-T:
Former LOW World Heavyweight champion “The Solid Man” William Muldoon of the AWE took on Savage-T who had valet KJ Hill in his corner. Savage-T may not have the greatest won-loss record but he held his own in there with Muldoon. That included delivering a superkick that resulted in a two count. Muldoon bounced back with some great offense and used a double shoulder lock to set up a Back Neck Hold which resulted in a submission victory for “The Solid Man”.

Interview – Larry Zbyszko & John Pesek:
Dave Brown narrated footage of a recent bout on an AWE card in Chicago, IL (Card #805) that saw Larry Zbyszko & John Pesek lose to the Road Warriors (Animal & Hawk) after Pesek was pinned by a Spike Piledriver. The most telling piece of footage saw a bloody Zbyszko wave off a downed Pesek before leaving the ring. Brown then welcomed in Zbyszko and Pesek to discuss the turn of events that night. Zbyszko took over on the mic and accused Brown of trying to “stir things up” between the two and said that Pesek has been his bodyguard and tag team partner for “six glorious years” in LOW. He said that in those six years the two made history as part of the Axis of Violence and would have had multiple runs as LOW World tag team champions had they been given a fair shot at the belts. Brown noted that the two had, in fact, received many title opportunities and though they are a top ranked tag team they had just been unable to achieve that goal. Zbyszko got angry and threatened Brown but then backed off allowing Pesek a chance to speak. The Nebraska native said that he is the “ultimate enforcer” and that anyone who doubts either him or Zbyszko is going to be in for some hard times. He said that they have an upcoming match with John & Chris Tolos in Detroit, MI (Card #815) and after they beat them they will put their focus back on winning the LOW World tag team titles. Zbyszko backed him up on that and said that he made a mistake in Chicago, a mistake by failing to put the fork in the Road Warriors once and for all. He said that Pesek has his back and that anything that happened that night is water under the bridge between the two. Pesek didn’t look as sure but then shook hands with Zbyszko indicating that they are still on the same page.

6) Chief Omega & Henry Irslinger vs. Naptown Dragons was a Draw:
The following was an expiration of time match as Chief Omega & Henry Irslinger joined forces to battle the Naptown Dragons (“Die Hard” Dustin Lee & Scotty Vortekz). Dave Brown called the action noting that the expiration of time match goes as many falls as necessary until time runs out in the broadcast. Both teams nearly won a fall via count out and then the Dragons scored with Dragons Breath on Irslinger for a near fall. Irslinger came back and caught Vortekz with the Flying Headlock for a big near fall. Omega also scored a near fall on Vortekz after executing the cosmic war dance. Neither team was unable to pick up a fall before time expired and it was Lance Russell ringing the timekeeper’s bell as Brown ended the broadcast announcing that both teams had fought to a time limit draw.

LOW Pacific Coast Wrestling - Grays Harbor Community Gym - Aberdeen, WA (Card #812)

1) Love Brothers defeated Texas Hangmen:
The popular team of the Love Brothers (Reginald & Hartford Love) met PCW newcomers the Texas Hangmen (Killer & Psycho) in an explosive opening match. The Hangmen join PCW with a reputation for destruction and they jumped the Love Brothers at ringside prior to the match. They dominated the action for a good stretch including using the feared Hangman’s Noose. They also hit the Hangmen Backbreaker on Reginald but he managed to kick out just before the three count. The Love Brothers fought back with Reginald hitting the Atomic Drop and Hartford the Neckbreaker for big near falls. After a battle on the outside, where Reginald hit Killer with a chair shot unseen by the referee, he executed a Fistdrop on the masked man to score the pin. The Texas Hangmen put forth a great battle in their debut and should prove to be tough opposition for all future opponents in PCW.

2) Lash Leroux defeated Konnan by DQ:
The “Rajin Cajun” Lash Leroux recently left the SWA and has signed a contract with PCW. His debut came against Konnan, the cornerstone of Sharpe Sports Agency, Inc., and it was a tough one. Leroux controlled early but then Konnan took it to the outside and roughed him up. He tossed Leroux into the guard rail several times and then speared him shoulder first into the ring post. The referee called for him to stop but Konnan picked up a chair and leveled Leroux with a shot across the back which resulted in the disqualification decision. Konnan then trapped Leroux in the Tequila Sunrise and only released it after the referee threatened further action.

3) The Sandman defeated P.N. News:
It was Rap versus Rock in this one as the “Rapmaster” P.N. News took on The Sandman, known for entering the ring to Enter Sandman by Metallica. It has been a long time since The Sandman has appeared in LOW opting to go the free agent route but his return here in his debut for PCW saw him come away with a convincing victory. He had News on the defensive from the outset and nearly pinned him after hitting the Hardcore DDT. The battle then went out to the floor where The Sandman avoided a running tackle by News who hit the ring post and was nearly counted out of the ring. A short time later it was The Sandman hitting News with the Singapore Cane out of view of the referee which led to him scoring the pin. The controversial hardcore star celebrated a successful PCW debut by lighting up a cigarette and pouring out a can of beer on the fallen News.

4) Brian Kendrick & Doug Gilbert defeated Ray Stevens & Tom Prichard:
Exciting tag team action saw the popular team of Brian Kendrick & Doug Gilbert took on the veteran combo of Ray “The Crippler” Stevens & Tom Prichard. This was a fast paced battle keyed by Kendrick who struck with moves like the huracanrana and tornado DDT. Stevens nearly won it for his team when he caught Gilbert with the Bombs Away but he managed to kick out just before the three count. Prichard resorted to serious rulebreaking tactics twice using foreign objects, a piece of rope and a pair of brass knuckles, on Kendrick but he was unable to get the pin. Kendrick would get the last laugh, however, when he surprised Prichard with a Rolling Front Cradle to score the pin. “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe again showed up post-match handing a business card to Gilbert for Sharpe Sports Agency, Inc. but he instead tore it up to cheers from the crowd and support from Kendrick.

5) Pepper Gomez defeated Dewey Robertson:
A scientific battle was up next between two popular stars as Pepper Gomez out of Mexico City, Mexico, took on Dewey Robertson out of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. It was a nice back and forth exchange early highlighted by Gomez hitting the criss cross smash for a near fall. Robertson struck back and applied the Figure Four Leglock but Gomez was able to get to the ropes for a break. Gomez scored with the Mexican Leap and held the advantage until Robertson caught him with a counter sunset flip for a big near fall. The action picked up towards the finish with Gomez surviving an abdominal stretch and using the stomach claw to soften up Robertson before using the Mexican Cradle to score the pin. Both men shook hands afterward to cheers from the crowd.

6) Roddy Piper & Don Leo Jonathan defeated The Grappler & Fritz Von Goering:
A wild bout saw “Rowdy” Roddy Piper & “The Mormon Giant” Don Leo Jonathan battle The Grappler & Fritz Von Goering. The feud between Piper and The Grappler has really been heating up particularly after the masked man used his Loaded Boot to score several falls over the “Rowdy” one. Piper recruited Jonathan for this bout and he couldn’t have asked for a better partner. Jonathan used his size and strength to dominate whenever he was in. This battle also went out to the floor several times where The Grappler was nearly disqualified at one point. The finish came when Jonathan surprised Von Goering with the Mormon Swing and covered him for the pin as Piper prevented The Grappler from making the save.

7) Handicap Match: Andre the Giant & Larry Hennig defeated Red Bastien, Billy Red Lyons, Playboy Buddy Rose, & Larry Sharpe:
A rare four-on-two Handicap Match saw the undefeated “Eighth Wonder of the World” Andre the Giant pair up with Larry “The Axe” Hennig to take on the Sharpe Sports Agency, Inc. team of Red Bastien, Billy Red Lyons, Playboy Buddy Rose, and “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe. Hennig has had all sorts of problems with SSA, Inc. and who better than Andre to recruit for this grudge match. It paid great dividends as Andre battered all four men at various points of the match including nailing Lyons with the sitdown splash. Bastien almost won it for SSA, Inc. when he scored a near fall on Hennig with a flying bodypress. Lyons later used the Sleeper Hold on Andre but it had little effect on the giant. Late in the match it was Andre nearly getting counted out as he battled Rose on the floor. Hennig hit The Axe on Sharpe for what could have been a three count but the rest of SSA, Inc. broke it up. Things weren’t so fortunate for Bastien when Hennig flattened him with a shoulder block and hit a big Elbowdrop to score the pin as Andre fended off Lyons, Rose, and Sharpe to secure the big victory.

8) LOW Junior Heavyweight title: Bryan Danielson defeated Gorgeous George to win the title:
History was made in the main event as hometown hero “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson became a three-time LOW Junior Heavyweight champion as he won the title from Gorgeous George. It had been over three years since Danielson held the belt and his last title win also came over George in East Rutherford, NJ (Card #348). The early action saw George gain the upper hand as he caught Danielson with an airplane spin and trapped him in the Gorgeous Grip. Danielson began battling back as he hit a suicide dive and a series of roundhouse kicks scoring a two count. George’s valet, Cherie Dupre, paced nervously at ringside as it looked like the championship could be slipping away. George went to some illegal tactics like the fingernail rake but it only seemed to fire up Danielson even more. He hit another suicide dive and George was nearly counted out of the ring. George stumbled back inside and Danielson slipped behind him locking on the Guillotine Choke. Dupre failed to distract the referee as Danielson cinched the hold on resulting in George tapping out. The crowd exploded in cheers and jumped to their feet as Danielson won the title from George in his hometown. The celebration lasted for nearly a half hour post-match as Danielson gave an emotional victory speech and then was hoisted up on the shoulders of Don Leo Jonathan while others such as Roddy Piper and Brian Kendrick led the crowd in a standing ovation for the new champion.
