Thanks for the comments Crimson, Bookerbill, AJ, and Mrsask. It is true that I have used the ten token rule for injury stoppage, and even title changes due to injury, but this was a first as it was excessive blood loss that led to the finish. I felt that it was somewhat unfair to Thesz to have the title change like that since it wasn't an actual injury (i.e. reaching ten tokens) but instead was the Add 1 foreign object attack of The Sheik that got him there. I'm happy to see that you guys agree with the decision I made and yes feel free to incorporate the ten token rule into your feds if you wish. It is rarely reached but sometimes the dice favor the one on the defensive resulting in some epic kick outs and submission escapes. At any rate it is now time for the next card coming to you courtesy of Pacific Coast Wrestling...
LOW Pacific Coast Wrestling - Portland Sports Arena - Portland, OR (Card #817)
1) Tom Prichard defeated Doug Gilbert:
A hot opening match saw Doug Gilbert out of Lexington, TN, taking on Houston, TX, native Tom Prichard. Both men are looking to move up the ladder in PCW and Gilbert, in particular, has been frustrated by his lack of singles success. Gilbert shined early on and caught Prichard with a DDT for a two count. Prichard countered a back bodydrop off of the ropes with a knee lift and then hit Gilbert with a chain for a big near fall. Gilbert kicked out but was knocked silly and Prichard kept on him hitting the enzuigiri and slingshot suplex. The finish saw Prichard with another Foreign Object attack, which appeared to be the chain, and he covered Gilbert for the pin. The crowd jeered the decision and afterward “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe of Sharpe Sports Agency, Inc. once again tried to recruit Gilbert but the frustrated star left the ring tearing up another business card handed to him by Sharpe.
2) The Sandman defeated Les Thatcher:
Les Thatcher of ASW took on the challenge of the cigarette smoking, beer drinking and hardcore icon known as The Sandman. Entering the arena to the sounds of Enter Sandman by Metallica, The Sandman had a large portion of the crowd cheering for him. He survived an early offensive by Thatcher, which included the Stump Puller for a submission chance. The Sandman struck back with the Heinekenrana and White Russian Legsweep before blasting Thatcher with a Singapore Cane shot out of view of the referee to score the pin. Oddly enough the crowd cheered for The Sandman using a weapon while earlier jeering Tom Prichard for doing the same in his match. The PCW crowd seems to be getting attached to The Sandman despite his seeming disdain for those supporting him.
3) Texas Hangmen defeated P.N. News & Lash Leroux:
The pairing of “The Rapmaster” P.N. News & “Rajin Cajun” Lash Leroux had a rough go of it against the Texas Hangmen (Killer & Psycho) in this match. The Hangmen lost to the Love Brothers in their PCW debut and so they were looking to make an impression. They dominated the 403 1/2–pound News preventing Leroux from ever tagging into the match. After a bulldog by Killer for a near fall it was the Hangmen executing the Neckbreaker and Falling Sledge Combo on News. Killer then got the pin on “The Rapmaster” as Psycho knocked Leroux silly with a flying elbow ram to prevent him from making the save.
4) Playboy Buddy Rose defeated Dewey Robertson:
Popular Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, native Dewey Robertson took on Playboy Buddy Rose of Sharpe Sports Agency, Inc. in a feature match. The arrogant Rose was accompanied by “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe and was very impressive in this bout. Rose dominated almost from the opening bell and quickly had Robertson in serious trouble as he hit the Bombs Away for a near fall. A DDT and subsequent use of a foreign object, a rope that he pulled from the tights, resulted in more near falls for the Playboy. Robertson was in a bad way when Rose connected with a second Bombs Away resulting in a snake eyes pin. Rose and Sharpe barely had time to celebrate the victory when Doug Gilbert hit the ring attacking both men. Robertson recovered and joined in resulting in a wild pull-apart brawl that LOW officials had to attempt to get under control. The end result is that Gilbert and Robertson will team up against Rose and Sharpe on the next PCW card in Phoenix, AZ (Card #826).
5) Love Brothers defeated Red Bastien & Billy Red Lyons:
Talk about snatching victory from the jaws of defeat! That is what happened as the Love Brothers (Reginald & Hartford Love) took on the “Flying Redheads” combo of Red Bastien & Billy Red Lyons representing Sharpe Sports Agency, Inc. Bastien and Lyons dominated for a good stretch in this one keeping Hartford on the defensive and scoring several near falls on him. They used their agility to deliver a series of dropkicks and flying headscissors. Lyons also caught Hartford with a rolling reverse cradle into a Sleeper Hold going for the submission but he got to the ropes for a break. When all looked lost for the Love Brothers it was Reginald bouncing back and making the hot tag to Hartford and moments later victory was achieved. Hartford quickly took down Lyons and trapped him in a Spinning Toehold which resulted in a submission victory as Reginald prevented Bastien from making the save. The crowd cheered the victory by the Love Brothers who have been gaining support due to their rivalry with the SSA, Inc. backed team of the “Flying Redheads”.
6) LOW Tex-Arkana Television title: Konnan defeated Curt Hennig© by DQ:
Sharpe Sports Agency, Inc. was looking to acquire championship gold as Konnan, accompanied by “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe, challenged Curt Hennig for the LOW Tex-Arkana Television title. The crowd was at a fever pitch for this one as Hennig was returning home to PCW to face off against one of his fiercest rivals in SSA, Inc. with the title on the line. This was an epic battle from start to finish with both men fatigued and bloody by the end of it. A controversial moment came when Hennig had Konnan pinned with the Hennig Plex but Sharpe provided a distraction breaking up the pin. That led to Larry “The Axe” Hennig, who was on standby for his match up next, coming out to even the odds for his son and he did just that by pulling Konnan out of the ring as he had Curt pinned after a somersault lariat. The referee got fed up with the interference and ejected both “The Axe” and the “Pretty Boy” from ringside. Konnan regained control and locked on the Tequila Sunrise but somehow it was Hennig getting to the ropes to force break. The grueling battle ended on the outside when Hennig got disqualified for hitting Konnan with a chair across the back as they battled for control. It strangely marked the third time that Hennig has lost via disqualification in what was his version six defense of the title. A bloody Konnan was upset and argued with the referee but it was to no avail as Hennig retained the title.
7) Ray Stevens, The Grappler, & Fritz Von Goering defeated Larry Hennig, Don Leo Jonathan, & Pepper Gomez:
An all-star six man tag team match saw the popular team of Larry “The Axe” Hennig, the “Mormon Giant” Don Leo Jonathan, and Pepper Gomez do battle with Ray “The Crippler” Stevens, The Grappler, and Fritz Von Goering. Hennig was already fired up from coming to the aid of his son, Curt Henning, in the previous match and that may have actually done him in here. Both teams looked good during the match but it was a controversial move that put an end to it. After Stevens caught Hennig with an elbow drop to the throat he made the tag to The Grappler. As the referee was distracted trying to clear the ring it was The Grappler with a hammerlock slam on Hennig followed up by the Loaded Boot to the head to score the pin. The crowd jeered the decision as Jonathan and Gomez both argued with the referee over the use of the boot by The Grappler. Jonathan then jumped The Grappler and sent him towards Gomez who backdropped the masked man over the top rope to the floor. They then went after Stevens and Von Goering driving them to the outside as a dazed Hennig recovered from the defeat.
8) LOW International Heavyweight title: Roddy Piper defeated Harley Race© by DQ:
The popular “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, who has also had his problems with The Grappler and the Loaded Boot, received a huge opportunity here as he challenged Harley Race for the LOW International Heavyweight title in the main event. Race got into it with the ring announcer during the introductions prompting Piper to jump him to a big pop from the crowd. That set the pace for an explosive battle which twice saw Piper kick out after being laid out with the Piledriver by Race. He later caught Race on the top rope picking him off with a bodyslam and then applying a figure four leglock for a submission chance. That was followed with a back suplex and press by Piper for a near fall. Race battled back with his barrage of headbutts battering Piper. The two wound up going out to the floor several times and that was where this one ended as Race was disqualified snake eyes style for sending Piper crashing head first into the ring post. It had been nearly seven years since Piper challenged for the title (Promoter’s Note: I previously used a bootleg Piper card in LOW) and he came away with the victory here but Race retained the title.
