My kind of fed that has Savage-T, Belgian Brawler, Mr X and The Heartbreak Express all involved!
If only Rupa stayed on the offense! Did Mr X tag himself in?!

Thanks for the comments guys, sometimes I really enjoy rolling out a show like the Providence one and it truly was the calm before the storm. bookerbill: I never thought of it when I was writing it but yeah Sabu and goodwill don't seem to go together lol. I had to give the fans something after that forgettable main event. I guess you could say that Atlas and Mascaras were able to keep him under control out there Pariah: I'm happy you have your ringside seats as it should be a fun series of shows coming up. I roll twice for DQ decisions and I really don't like when they take over a card but the dice roll that way sometimes. joebreakdown: Glad you enjoyed the show and the appearances by those guys. Rupa tagged out to Mr. X who proceeded to lose it for the team. Not Rupa's fault as he needed a break from the action. As for guys like Rupa, Mr. X, Powers etc. they are a part of my roster for LOW All-Star Wrestling, the television broadcast for my fed. They make spot appearances in most of the territories I run and are "enhancement talent", so to speak, but they do score some upset wins from time to time. Hopefully sometime this weekend I will be able to post the first action from WrestleCade IX weekend, I just need to get in some dice rolling and writing time. Thanks as always for following along and commenting.

It's important to utilize enhancement talent!

I'll refrain from attempting any predictions, but let me just make it known that my support is firmly behind The Mountie to win the Invitational Cup Tournament...
This has got to be the biggest spectacle in the HISTORY of professional wrestling! As if WrestleCade weekend, including the PWI Invitational Cup Tournament, the Red Carpet Rumble AND all these major title defenses weren't enough... We are also going to bear witness to IWA Genesis...
To steal a few words from Vince Neil in the opening sequence to Home Sweet Home... 'This is where it all began...'

Ok the time has come for WrestleCade IX weekend to begin. Thanks for the comments Pariah and Daytondave, and also thanks for the Motley Crue reference Pariah. I am not sure when I will have all of this rolled out but here is the first show. My goal is to have everything finished and posted by next weekend or earlier if possible. Thanks for all of the kind words and support and I hope you enjoy the opening show...LOW - 7th Annual PWI Invitational Cup Tournament – Opening Round - The Showboat - Las Vegas, NV (Card #897)●LOW Commissioner Charlie Cox was joined by PWI Editor Bill Apter in welcoming the fans to the start of the seventh annual PWI Invitational Cup Tournament and of WrestleCade IX weekend. The two discussed the incredible first round matches lined up for the evening and Cox noted that he had seriously discussed the idea with the LOW Board of Directors of barring the “Million $ Man” Ted Dibiase from the tournament. That was as a result of Dibiase buying his way into the tournament by paying Larry Zbyszko a sum of $50,000 to forfeit their qualifying match. He said it was ultimately decided to let Dibiase compete but that attempting to buy his way through any more matches would result in him losing via forfeit. The crowd cheered that announcement and then Cox thanked Apter and the staff of Pro Wrestling Illustrated for once again being a huge part of WrestleCade weekend. 1) Bruiser Brody defeated Roddy Piper: The opening match of WrestleCade IX weekend and the tournament featured two of the most intense competitors around as Freelance star Bruiser Brody took on “Rowdy” Roddy Piper of Pacific Coast Wrestling. This was about as wild as you would expect with both men trading blows in and out of the ring. Piper was able to go toe-to-toe with Brody and almost won the match when he trapped him in the Sleeper Hold. When that failed it was Piper hitting him with a Foreign Object, looking to be chain pulled out of his tights, but Brody kicked out at the count of two. Brody launched a massive comeback and twice hit the Jumping Knee Drop but failed to get the pin. The resiliency of Piper was very impressive as he refused to stay down. It took everything that Brody had to finally pull this one out as he hit the Jumping Knee Drop for a third time to score the pin. 2) The French Angel defeated Tommy Rich: The popular “Wildfire” Tommy Rich out of the SWA took on the feared French Angel who is also popular in his home territory of the GWA. As wild and wooly as the Brody versus Piper match was this one was on the same level. The importance of the PWI Cup was not lost as the two men traded blows from the opening bell. The Angel dominated a good portion of the match including locking the Bearhug on in the early going. Rich fought out of the punishing hold and twice hit the Thesz Press for big near falls. The Angel bounced back delivering the menacing palm strikes mixed in with the backbreaker and bodyslam. Rich was in a bad way but he dug down and mounted a comeback attempting to secure an all important victory. The battle ended up on the outside where The Angel ran Rich back first into the ring apron a few times. He then tossed Rich back inside and again locked on the Bearhug which this time resulted in a submission victory. 3) The Mountie defeated Blackjack Mulligan: The Mountie, representing the GWA, had a tall order as he faced popular SWA star Blackjack Mulligan giving away over one-hundred pounds and several inches in height. Those statistics had Mulligan marked as the favorite going in but he never really got on track in this one. The Mountie used his quickness to counter the size and power of Mulligan and scored some impressive two counts with the Short Choke Slam. Mulligan took it to the outside and roughed up The Mountie before momentum went back in the way of the Canadian star. The finish saw The Mountie trap Mulligan in a Boston Crab but it was broken up in the ropes. The referee went to check on Mulligan as The Mountie removed the top turnbuckle pad. Moments later he informed the referee about the removed turnbuckle pad and as the official went to fix it The Mountie used his controversial Shock Stick on Mulligan to score the pin. 4) Antonino Rocca defeated Dutch Savage: A meeting of two popular stars saw Antonino Rocca of the NWC taking on PCW star Dutch Savage, the master of the Coal Miner’s Glove Match. Rocca won the third annual PWI Cup tournament and was the only former winner to qualify for this tournament. Savage knew that he needed to get the early advantage and he went to some roughhouse tactics including stunning Rocca with the thumb to the throat. Savage dominated for a good stretch and not only busted Rocca open but scored a big near fall with the brawling punches and kicks. Rocca had to dig down and find a way to come back and he did just that with a victory roll and flying dropkicks covering the stunned Savage for a two count. The crowd began rallying behind Rocca and despite the blood loss he went airborne hitting a Flying Bodypress off of the top rope on Savage to score the pin. 5) Exotic Adrian Street defeated The Terrible Turk by DQ: There is no denying the brutality of AWE star The Terrible Turk (Youssuf Ishmaelo) and that was on full display as he took on the flamboyant Exotic Adrian Street out of the GWA, who was accompanied by his valet Miss Linda. Street took a terrible beating for most of this match and was busted open before it was over. Miss Linda interfered several times to save Street from defeat. That led to her being ejected from ringside, though, and Street looked to be done. Appearances can be deceptive and the bloody Street, who is known for being as tough as he is flamboyant, began battling back and trapped The Turk in the London Bridge Leglock and The Daffodil. He also scored a two count after delivering a knee lift. The Turk then made his own comeback and trapped Street in his controversial Stranglehold. The bloody Street was near out of it when the referee called for the bell. It looked like The Turk had won it but then the referee declared Street the winner by disqualification citing that he had turned the hold into a choke hold and refused to release it. The Turk was furious and went after the referee who escaped. Miss Linda, meanwhile, ran back down and helped pull the victorious Street out of the ring to safety. 6) Curt Hennig defeated Killer Kowalski by DQ: Something was clearly in the air in Las Vegas as each tournament match was more brutal than the one that preceded it. In this case it was popular PCW star Curt Hennig taking on Killer Kowalski of the NWC. With his manager Captain Lou Albano “in training” for his match at WrestleCade IX it was Kowalski going it alone. The Killer lived up to his nickname and showed that he doesn’t need any help to get the job done. He roughed up Hennig for a good portion of the match including dropping him with the overhead bodyslam. He also got the better of Hennig on the outside. Hennig fought back and used a sleeper hold to slow things down but it wasn’t long before they were back on the outside. Kowalski upped the violence and after dropping Hennig across the guard rail he struck him with a chair shot across the back. The referee had no choice but to disqualify him and award Hennig a very painful victory. 7) Ted Dibiase defeated Angelo Mosca: SWA star Angelo “King Kong” Mosca took on the “Million $ Man” Ted Dibiase who was accompanied by his bodyguard Kurrgan. Unable to buy his way out of the match this time, Dibiase tried to reason with Mosca but “King Kong” was having none of it. Mosca overpowered Dibiase early hitting the football tackle which resulted in a two count. Dibiase managed to turn it around and twice locked on the Million Dollar Sleeper but it was broken up in the ropes. Mosca then trapped Dibiase in his own Sleeper Hold but that was broken up by Kurrgan grabbing his legs and pulling him down. The referee saw that and ordered the seven-foot tall bodyguard to leave ringside. It took several LOW officials to get that job done and as Kurrgan left an angry Dibiase went on the defensive. Things were looking good for Mosca until both men went down from a double clothesline out of the corner. Dibiase recovered first and was able to trap Mosca in the Million Dollar Sleeper and that ended this one in a submission victory for the “Million $ Man”. 8) Magnum T.A. defeated Don Muraco by DQ: The opening round closed with a clash of popular SWA stars as Magnum T.A. took on “The Magnificent” Don Muraco. Both men shook hands at the start but it was Muraco taking an aggressive approach early as he pounded away on Magnum. He scored a two count with a vertical suplex and also took Magnum down with the falling face slam off of the top turnbuckle. A nice comeback by Magnum came when he nailed Muraco with a running forearm followed by a barrage of dropkicks to score a two count. He also hit an atomic drop before locking on an abdominal stretch. Muraco attempted an escape and wound up flipping both men over the top rope to the floor. As each man got back to his feet they began trading blows while ignoring the instructions of the referee to get back into the ring. Muraco lost his cool and speared Magnum head first into the ring post causing the referee to call for the bell. Magnum was awarded the victory via disqualification leaving a frustrated Muraco to reflect on his actions. Muraco extended his hand and Magnum accepted it to cheers from the crowd. He then raised the arm of Magnum in victory before planting him with a brutal clothesline! The referee tried to step in but Muraco shoved him down before lifting Magnum up and delivering the Hawaiian Hammer. It was a vicious attack that was put to a stop as LOW officials ran in to get Muraco to leave. He left on his own as the officials attended to Magnum who fortunately was not seriously injured in the post-match attack. ********************** The quarter-final and semi-final round of the tournament takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV (Card #898) with the following lineup:
Bruiser Brody vs. The French Angel The Mountie vs. Antonino Rocca Exotic Adrian Street vs. Curt Hennig Ted Dibiase vs. Magnum T.A.
Additional Matches:
SHIMMER Offer Match: Tina Moretti, Athena, Malia Hosaka, & Tomoka Nakagawa vs. Nora Greenwald, Joyce Grable, Sassy Stephie, & Nevaeh Steel Cage Match: The Crusher & Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs. King Kong Bundy & Bill Dundee

Yes! YES! Or should I say OUI! Very happy to see The Mountie moving into the next round of the tournament... Oh yeah, and the rest of the matches were pretty OK too... Brody and Piper had an epic confrontation, which was to be expected... Looks like Hennig might have lucked out when Kowalski got himself disqualified... And a monumental comeback by DiBiase shows that he can actually EARN himself a victory INSIDE the ring when he puts his mind to it... WrestleCade weekend starts off with a BANG!

Stellar writing and action, WrestleCade is your top stuff and I'm pulling for the French Angel to win your PWiT. I with Pariah like The Mountie doing well, but as I wrote above is my favorite to win it all...
